About Louise Ward
Massanutten Village was my home for about 10 years. I had visited the ski resort & homeowners here, & then rented a house before buying this house. I already knew that I liked the convenience & quiet of the area, & the fact that it has a lot of trees & the houses do not look alike. I moved to Lexington VA (about 1 hour away) to start a cafe, but I come back every week to visit family in the area & to check on the house. I have left antiques, art, live plants and personal touches in the house to retain a warm & homey atmosphere for my guests. I do all changeovers myself so that I can ensure that the house is clean & welcoming for each guest's stay.
Why Louise Ward chose McGaheysville
Massanutten village is a quiet residential neighborhood within the resort at the base of the mountain. As a skier I had visited the resort, & then rented in the village for a couple of years. I was delighted to find an unusual house for sale here, & have been glad that I bought in this location. It is conveniently located at the bottom of the mountain, and it is so quiet & relaxing that it is hard to believe the resort's many amenities are only 5 minutes away.
What makes this House unique
This house appealed to me from the beginning. It is open-concept, & has a lot of natural light because of skylights & high windows. Plants thrive inside, & the house has the look & feel of both a beach house & a mountain get-away. I have decorated it to enhance that feeling. The back yard is wooded, with no houses behind, & I often see deer.

Cozy Home with a Very Accommodating Host
We had a great time at this home in Massanutten. The home was actually a bit bigger then expected and was very cozy. Louise is a very accommodating host and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!
We loved the location: it was close to all of the activities on the resort and it had everything we needed. Louise was very responsive when we had questions. We only wish that the mattresses were a little newer.
great location, needs deep cleaning
This is a spacious home with ample room. The bed downstairs was comfortable. Louise was very nice and was responsive to any questions. The washer and dryer worked well. There were ample linens provided. The house is located in a great location and is near the parkway. While there is no internet/cable there is a dvd player and a nice tv so bring your own movies or she has several movies and games to choose from. The deer were out every morning and evening which was very nice.
If you are looking for an updated, sparkling rental this is not for you. while the home was clean.... I don't think a deep cleaning has been done in awhile. There were cobwebs and dust in corners. My allergies really kicked in during our 3 night stay. It reminded me of a man's house.....no attention to detailed cleaning.
She did say that she kept the heat at 80 while no one was in the house and that we were free to adjust air settings to what we felt were comfortable. The house was VERY musty smelling. The heat and air stated that there was 83% humidity inside the house, so maybe it was a heating and air issue that contributed to the musty odor. We bought air deodorizer and sprayed it liberally.
If you are looking for a place to just lay your head at night while spending the rest of the time out enjoying nearby activities this is for you.
I'd like to thank Karen for her review. Her stay was at the end of September, & she's correct that there was high humidity then. That was soon after Hurricane Florence with it's ongoing heavy rains. The house did not suffer any damage, but the 2 previous guests chose to cancel or postpone because of weather & transportation difficulties. Karen was lucky that her stay was not impacted by either Florence or Hurricane Michael which came 10 days after her stay. The house was closed up for a couple of weeks after Florence because of the cancellations & there was a slight musty odor then, but both the humidity & mustyness are now gone, as well as the cobwebs. The fall deep cleaning is almost complete.
I'm sorry that Karen's allergies were activated. The family that chose to postpone because of Florence is now staying this cold November weekend, & is enjoying a home that is freshly deep-cleaned and toasty warm.
Great location, at Massanutten, very close to JMU. Kitchen was difficult to cook in, trouble with stove and hood, but owner is addressing these issues. Wished I had packed my own pans and coffee pot. Dated decor and could have been cleaner. I was asked by owner to wash and dry her towels prior to leaving, so we just used our own. Not much of an issue as we spent most of our time outside enjoying the Shenandoah.
It was alright
There were some issues that the owner addressed right away so made our stay better
We enjoyed spending time at house. My daughter enjoyed dvd's and books. Lovely house.
House is clean and we enjoyed family time and my little one enjoyed waterbed. Thank you to owner Louise. Thank you.
