This is a custom built mountain luxury home that is built off the grid, fully self-sustainable and beautifully maintained. The ranch is 55 miles from town (Fort Collins) and a place to be enjoyed in solitude. It is a fully equipped home with a gourmet kitchen, every small and large appliance you could want to create beautiful family meals. Bring your groceries and settle in for some down time! The house has in-floor radiant heat that is powered by solar hot water which makes for cozy bathroom and bedroom floors! The bunk house should be used for those looking for an adventure, it is heated for winter use and feels like a secluded rustic cabin with all the trimmings. The property is 40 acres of fenced, secure land that has meadows, lodge pole pines, aspens, blue spruce, ponderosa pines and douglas fir trees. We have gorgeous mountain views and are completely secluded - you cannot see another house or cabin from the property. There is a fantastic outdoor fire pit that allows for large bonfires to enjoy chilly nights by while making smores.

Hiking, Fishing, Camping, Cross Country Skiing, Snow shoeing, sledding, Horse Back Riding, Cooking, Family Time, Hot Tubbing, White Water Rafting, Exploring, Hunting and Relaxing - these are all activities that that can be enjoyed right from this Cherokee Park Aspen Lodge! The entire ranch and home will be made available to the guests. About Heather Steyn

Phillip and I are both veterinarians who are passionate about the outdoors, animals and the people who enjoy them! The desire to live off the grid, lead a sustainable life style and enjoy the National Forest inspired us to make this place our home.

We have raised sheep for meat and milk, housed chickens and horses, Nationally ranked Australian shepherds and enjoy our piece of paradise in the mountains of Colorado. While we are on a large non-profit project in Ecuador for the street dogs and the local communities, we can offer our Colorado home as a totally unique experience.

Heather Steyn purchased this house in 2001

Why Heather Steyn chose Larimer County

Please check out the video that was made of the house for the National Solar Home Tour. Reviewed in books and magazines, it has been used as a design template for many other off grid homes. If you have ever wondered how great off-grid living can be, this is your opportunity to experience the best!

To view the video - go to Y.O.U.T.U.B.E. and search for "Cherokee Park Haven".

Away from it all........

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a unique place away from it all, this is it.

This home is beautiful inside and out. Beautiful mountain views, hummingbirds, blue jays, and wildlife make your time on the balcony a once in a lifetime experience. Fresh farm eggs, amazing kitchen and spectacular on site representation, not sure what else you could want. Loved our time here.

Great Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our two week stay. Such a great family bonding experience in a beautiful home in a beautiful location. Tracy was terrific - there when we needed her, but otherwise we had our privacy. The home was well equipped and comfortable. The kids loved Jelly, the sheep, and getting fresh laid eggs every morning. The only downside was the hot tub. Either too hot or too cold, and leaking so we didn't get to enjoy it very much. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!!

Beautiful property, Home and experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week at this beautiful property. The on-site concierge Tracy was amazing! She had everything sparkling clean and well stocked for our arrival. With the place being remotely located, it was extremely valuable to have her expertise onsite. She also helped us find things, places to visit in the area and even brought us supplies when she went to town. The beds were comfortable, kitchen well stocked and seating inside and on the deck was plentiful. It was nice to pull into the garage to offload. When there was a rainy day, we enjoyed the fireplaces. The views from the property are constantly changing and we spent a lot of time just sitting and enjoying it. It is simply amazing how the home operates “off the grid”. There were plenty of activities such as frisbee golf, hiking, watching the hummingbirds, river rafting and horseback riding for the daytime and stargazing, hot tubbing, games and videos for nights. We really enjoyed preparing meals in the beautifully appointed kitchen and used the BBQ as well. One person in our party used a walker and it was not really set up as handicap accessible. There were a few steps into the house that she could maneuver, but a wheelchair could not. Since she could not access the upstairs bedroom, she used the master suite. The bed is very tall and she needed to use a step stool and assistance from a family member to get in and out of the bed. There is also a step into the shower and there are no bars to hold onto in the shower or toilet area. We were able to make it work, but would not consider this an accessible property. Other than that, our stay was perfect! It is so lovely and comfortable. Tracy was a great host! Our dogs were very happy to enjoy the property and there are also lovely onsite dogs that enhanced our stay. There were beautiful flower pots everywhere, Internet for small things and Tracy showed us a spot on the property where we could occasionally get cell phone service. We weren’t there to be virtual, we were there to connect with each other and nature in extremely comfortable surroundings. Overall, this was a fantastic getaway for a family. We all loved it and feel lucky to have been able to enjoy the beautiful country, Home, views and Tracy! Thank you!

Getting Away From It All Luxury

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a few days in this northern Colorado property, and it was amazing!

The house was beautiful, located in a forested area, on the side of a hill with beautiful rock outcrops. The view, not only of the surrounding forest but the mountain ranges to the south was a fantastic one to wake up to. There were hikes and drives in the surrounding areas to keep us entertained for quite some time. The house was stocked with everything you could possibly need. We have stayed at many rental properties from Paris to Palm Springs and this one was by far the best stocked. The multiple bird feeders were also kept stocked, providing us with a constant stream of hummingbirds and Steller’s jays, among others.

Tracy, the property manager, lives on-site and was very helpful without being intrusive. She provided great information about the nearby activities, and directed us on a tour of some of the nearby sights.

The house itself was immaculately clean. I would rate the cleanliness as exceptional. The owners contacted us a couple of times just to see if we needed anything...this was gracious and unusual. Everything on the property that we needed worked. There were absolutely no glitches.

We highly recommend this property and hope to make it back here in the not-too-distant future.

Thank you Heather and Wendy!

Amazing Custom Home getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

We found this custom home looking for a getaway for our Thanksgiving Break. Being a custom home builder I can say that this house is not a Cabin, it is a high end, high performance home. A lot of detail, thought, planing and money went into this great home. Me and my family were very comfortable (We were able to bring our two large dogs). The house is fully stocked with anything you could possibly want and or need. The seclusion, views, amenities etc make this a great vacation home. We brought a 4 seat ATV and had a great time exploring the surrounding areas and roads, spotting two moose on our second day was quite the treat for our young boys. Heather (the owner) and Tracy (caretaker) were highly responsive to our needs, questions and concerns. This made our stay extra enjoyable and easy. I would highly recommend this house to anyone that wants to get away and into the mountains away from all the hustle and bustle from I70. Family fun or a romantic trip would be a great fit. We will be renting again in the future!
