Grew up in Manhattan, spent great summers in this cabin as a kid, now I live year round in the area with my family.
Eugenia Krause purchased this cabin in 1975
There is a magic about this place, my artist father used to come here with his passion for trout fishing. Tranquil, relaxing, and peaceful.
Walk out the back door and jump in the stream on a hot day. Barbeque on the charcoal grill and eat dinner on the picnic table as the creek rushes by! Afternoon sun in the creekbed warms you after a refreshing dip! Sweet cabin in a sweet spot.
The Charming cabin is, indeed, charming. It is also well equipped, nicely decorated, and the location is great. The creek is right there. It is near Phoenicia and lots to do locally. This is our 4th stay, we never want to leave! Perfect for our family of 4 (counting the dog!)...
charming cottage with a great location for hiking and other outdoor activities.
If you're not familiar with the area, this part of NY is surrounded by state park and national forest, so if you love outdoor activities then this is a great place to go. It sits centrally located to 4 ski resorts: Hunter, Bellayre, Wyndham and Platekill. It's also only a 2 hour drive from Gore, Bromley and Stratton. Bottom line, if you are a skier then this is a great spot. It's also only 10 minutes from Woodstock, which is a great small town; nice shops and restaurants. There's a movie theater nearby and Kingston is only a half hour away. The owners are very nice and very involved. They live nearby and keep in touch with you to make sure everything is OK.
The weather did not cooperate with us this trip unfortunately, but that didn't stop us from having fun. As I said the area is a real "outdoors" kind of area, so we went hiking. There's easily 50 local hiking trails and the forest is just beautiful. If you fish, this us supposed to be one of the best trout fishing places in the Northeast.
The cabin itself is a great place, it has a nice layout and is nestled in a pleasant little notch next to a stream. Great views and not a lot of traffic make the location even better. In the interest of total transparency, it is at a point where it could use some reinvestment. There's nothing wrong with it, but it is a bit rustic and it is really best for couples. With that in mind, I believe you would really enjoy your stay too.
This place is great for a weekend getaway. Great atmosphere, wood burning stove for cozy fires, an outdoor fire pit, and plenty of firewood already chopped and waiting to be used. However, the stove is pretty terrible and the coffee maker too. You're better off going out to eat as it takes forever to cook on the stove or in the oven. Despite that, I am always happen to return here. It's super relaxing and cozy.
We had such a wonderful time here at the charming cabin. It was beautiful and relaxing. We spent Thanksgiving here. It will definitely be a holiday we remember forever. It was wonderful!
We spent Rosh Hashanah at the cabin with our two little ones, aged 4 and 2. The cabin was cozy and comfortable. The kitchen is small, but well-equipped. The stove is not very powerful, so make sure you leave plenty of time for cooking (which we did). It wasn't quite warm enough for us to get in the water, but the stream was beautiful and our son loved throwing rocks into it. We spent some time exploring Woodstock and Phoenicia, and hiking in the area. Although Eugenia warned us that there would be construction behind the house (they are fixing a bridge), it actually added to our son's experience. We are looking forward to our next stay!
This is our second time here and it was amazing!!! First and foremost, Eugenia is an outstanding host!!! I stayed at her Cabin before but I made the horrid mistake of trying a completely different cabin, owned by someone else, in a different area, from a different website and that cabin was horrendous. But when I called Eugenia and explained my situation, how we couldn't spend another night at that place, she went out of her way to have her cabin ready for me!! She kept in touch the whole time and even came around to check on us to make sure everything went well. I am so grateful!! She turned by vacation completely around and I had a great time at her place! If you looking to relax, have a really nice big stream in the backyard to explore, and ample space, this is your place!
