Great Location for Family Cabin Lacking Care

  • 3 of 5

Our three generation group really enjoyed the close-to-the-lake location and loved the lake itself. We enjoyed the kayaks and the deck, and the general accommodation and space worked for us. If the owners put in more effort, this would have been a four or five star.

The general description of the property was as described, but the lack of maintenance and care of this property was disappointing. The everyday surfaces (counters, bathroom, floors) were clean, but it looked like it hadn't had any "spring cleaning" in a long time. There were lots of spider webs and dust under furniture, on curtains and blinds and in every corner. A quilt was dirty, and there were candy wrappers under a bed. There were so many ants in the kitchen - they were in the garbage, on the counters and in some drawers and cabinets. After a few days we took the garbage to the garage every day, which helped.

The stairs off the front deck had no railing, which was difficult for my mother, and a couple of protruding nails which were hard on bare feet. . The screen door "closer" was broken, the dryer vented to the inside of the garage (which probably contributed to it's very musty smell), the ping pong net was broken, ripped cushions on outdoor furniture. No mattress pads on the beds. The tap water was very hard, so that we bought water for drinking and coffee. The day before we left someone came to adjust the water softener - too bad it hadn't been earlier. Although the garage building is newer, the workmanship isn't great.

Things that make a property special were lacking, like only 5 coffee cups in a place that sleeps 10+, and no dishes at all in the garage apartment, even though it had a toaster and a coffee maker - where to put that toast and coffee? I did ask the host about the cups and she offered to reimburse me for going to the Dollar Store in Walker if I wanted to buy more.

Our family had lake cabins for many years, so we know the work that goes into them, and when we did our own improvements, we would always remind ourselves "it's just a cabin", so we don't expect the Hilton. We've also rented a number of vacation properties. We could overlook a number of little things, but there were so many here that this place didn't have the basic level of cleanliness and maintenance we expected.

The cabin and bunkhouse were well cared for and had all the comforts of home.

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful property for our extended family ranging from 81 to 26 years old. Boat lifts, clear water, fire pit and plenty of space for our lawn activities. The game room was used on the rainy day and offered storage for golf clubs and boat toys when not in use. The kitchen was well equipped and the cabin spacious. The owners were great to work with and responsive to any questions. Overall, a wonderful vacation location with lots of memories. We are planning to visit again.

2016 Week at 10--Mile

  • 5 of 5

Another good stay. Weather cooperated normally for mid-summer. Grandkids totally enjoyed the lake and games. We have already reserved a week for 2017.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to stay. Plenty big and comfortable! Very well set up and for anyone that enjoys to cook the kitchen is stocked very well. Only bummer was the rocks along the beach, we had little ones with us. However after a big storm night one, we understand why there is rock, very large lake and the wind really picks up speed coming across the lake. Use the boat lift, it saved our boat.

Fantastic Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a great family vacation, the property is set up perfectly for multiple families! The rec room in the garage was a hit, weather wasn't the greatest for a couple days so we used that space alot, pool, foosball and ping pong contests!

Rooms were clean and up to date! The lake is fantastic, kids had a blast in the sandy shore, and the lake is crystal clear!

Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

This is our second stay at this property. The owners are really easy to work with and very prompt at answering any of your questions. The property is great as there is a main cabin and guest cabin over the garage. The cabins are clean and cozy and have plenty of room for 9 adults and 2 dogs. The main cabin has a wonderful deck with a table and chairs. We enjoyed many pleasant family dinners on the deck while enjoying the lake view. There is a recreation area in the garage with ping pong, fooseball, a pool table and a dart board for those cold or rainy times during your stay. Our stay this year was cooler so we were able to enjoy a campfire almost every night. The lake is huge so you never get tired of exploring it. We even caught a 30 inch walleye during our stay! I would definitely recommend this property for a relaxing, fun and memorable family vacation.
