Minnewaska State Park has been recently expanded and will include a visitor's center and access to the legendary 'ice caves' that often have ice in the summer. This park is one of the state's greatest treasures and is 20 minutes away.
I am a designer and live in New York City. I am also a very active triathlete and travel to races most weekends during the summer.

The area is full of outdoor adventures, hiking trails, secret swimming falls, farmers markets, and antique shops. I love it because the locals are very friendly and helpful. Also the road and mountain biking opportunities are endless.
If you feel like being pampered, the house is 20 minutes from the famous Mohonk Mountain House. They have a brand new world class spa and indoor pool.
When I first saw this house, I recognized it right away. It looks like it is floating in air. During the summer, the breezes gently pass through and mother nature is always putting on a show. During the non winter months, the roof deck at night offers an unobstructed view of the stars. It is at the end of a private road and abuts a New York State land preserve.
We are just departing Dan's wonderful home after staying here for a week.
What can we say ! We think we could run out of superlatives.
Everything here in this most extraordinary home is just as Dan has described it on the website.
It is hidden in a private forest , down a small track and you are surrounded by nature and wildlife. Whilst here, we have seen deer, owls, rabbits, chipmunks and of course numerous birds. There is no background noise at all as the nearest house is a long way away.
The house is warm and clean and comfortable and every almost room has a large floor to ceiling window that you can look out of and admire the view.
Also, the village of Kerhonkson is an ideal spot in which to tour Ulster County. In our week here we have visited Hyde Park, Val-Kil, West Point and the Vanderbilt Mansion.
We have dined out well too. There are fancy restaurants nearby and some simpler places and all have served good food.
Finally , may we just add a few words about Dan the owner. Being from England, we had to ask Dan many things, before we arrived and also whilst we were here. He answered our queries with patience and kindness and he was a joy to deal with.
We are writing this review on our final morning here and have much sadness that we are departing. We will miss this special place but we do intend to return in the future.
Great house -- private, quiet, architecturally interesting, lots of beautiful state parks nearby. The owner is very helpful and responsive. I've stayed here before and it's been wonderful each time.
We're repeat visitors, so that tells you what we think of this wonderful place! There's local antiquing, but that's not my thing so I can't say anything about it. But the area is ideal for hikers; the nearby parks (the area is filled with parks) are gorgeous -- good for a couple of hours of relaxed walking or a full day of hiking with great views.
The owner, Dan, is very responsive which makes for an easy experience. I look forward to our next visit!
What an experience! This designer house is in a great remote location but not too far away from restaurants and the main road. Really makes you feel like you are one with nature. All the detailed work is exceptional! The rooftop deck and outdoor shower are unique. Really made for an enjoyable two nights in the Catskills.
It's hard to describe this place as it's so wonderfully different from an ordinary house. It's the best place I've ever stayed and I've stayed at many nice places. The outdoor shower on the roof is a must! Activities in the area: great hiking, rock climbing, swimming in lakes. If you're not a die-hard hiker, no problem -- there's a wide range of trails to take, with plenty of small lakes to cool off in. Dan, by the way, is extremely helpful and responsive. He and his house get an A+!

USE OF PREMISES. The Premises shall be used and occupied by Lessee, exclusively, as a private single family dwelling, and no part of the Premises shall be used at any time during the term of this Lease Agreement by Lessee for the purpose of carrying on any business, profession, or trade of any kind, or for any purpose other than as a private single family dwelling. This includes still and motion photography for editorial or commercial purposes. Lessee shall not allow any other person, other than Lessee's immediate family or transient relatives and friends who are guests of Lessee, to use or occupy the Premises without first obtaining Lessor's written consent to such use. Lessee shall comply with any and all laws, ordinances, rules and orders of any and all governmental or quasi-governmental authorities affecting the cleanliness, use, occupancy and preservation of the Premises. Lessee shall not allow smoking on the Premises.
ASSIGNMENT AND SUB-LETTING. Lessee shall not assign this Agreement, or sub-let or grant any license to use the Premises or any part thereof.
ALTERATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS. Lessee shall make no alterations to the buildings or improvements on the Premises or construct any building or make any other improvements on the Premises without the prior written consent of Lessor. (By way of example and not limitation, Lessee shall not install or affix satellite television or any other appliance to the Premises without the prior written consent of Lessor.) Any and all alterations, changes, and/or improvements built, constructed or placed on the Premises by Lessee shall, unless otherwise provided by written agreement between Lessor and Lessee, be and become the property of Lessor and remain on the Premises at the expiration or earlier termination of this Agreement.
