I am architect in Amsterdam since 1978 and restored a lot of places in the inner part of the old centre.
For me this house has a very good atmospher. I restored it myself. The location can't be better, just in the centre of the town, all interesting places on walking distance. Canal viewis unique, and then there is a breathtaking garden at the rear. The rooms are spacious and light. The bedrooms, one with terace overlooking the garden, are quiet. An oase of silence in the centre of a wonderful living town.
Canal house with breathtaking garden. Spacious and light. Tastefully furnished. Location can't be better, all initeresting places are at walking distance. Comfortable, charming and unique!
Our family of five (three daughters aged 8, 13, and 15) stayed at this awesome home for five nights. Despite my trepidation about no deposit and paying cash on arrival, we were so pleased with the experience and our stay. The house is very well situated to everything that you will want to see, a block and one-half from a grocery store, close to Anne Frank House, pancakes, the Red Light District, renting canal boats, etc. The kitchen and baths were well-stocked and everything worked. The pinkish/red couch on the third floor (living space) was my reading nook where I napped daily. My only complaints would be that the wifi was sketchy (worked well on the 3rd floor though), we had a mosquito problem in the kitchen and top bedroom levels, and the shower clogged easily. But I would put up with that and more to visit this wonderful city and stay in this amazing home. Fred, I want to come baaaaaaaaaaack!
PS Fred was always very quick to respond to questions. Agnes (who met us to let us in) was sweet and friendly and helpful. There are a ton of stairs but you get used to that quickly........if I could add more stars I would, but then I would hate for people to book this place so much that I could not get back in.....
We spent 2 holiday weeks in this wonderful house (2 adults+ 2 small kids). The pictures give you correct understanding of the place. You find everything you need at the kitchen + linens + towels. Perfect location with the shops, cafes, museums just around the corner. At the same time it is quite. And the garden! Was very convenient to have such a big safe garden to spend time with kids -) And for those without it would be a pleasure to spend a quite evening over there , especially in a warm weather. Thank you, Fred!
We recently stayed for 6 nights and can only echo the most recent previous reviewer. The location cannot be beat since it is in a very trendy upscale busy neighborhood but it is extremely quiet, even the street noise is minimal. We also agree that a few issues probably should be addressed although certainly not a deal breaker.
The specifics; all pictures are accurate, from the street you go up 6 steps that leads to the large dining room before going down 3 steps into the kitchen area and back door to the garden. From the kitchen there is a doorway and a staircase going down to an area that houses the washer & dryer. Back in the dining room you go up 12 steps to the library/bedroom and WC with toilet & sink. Up another 12 steps leads to the double-sided living room and another staircase (14 steps) takes you up to the next level with master bedroom to the left & main bathroom with tub, shower, toilet and sinks to the right. From the hallway there is a door which opens up to a final set of stairs (16) that takes you up to the final bedroom to the left & private office space to the right. It may sound like a lot of stairs, but they are not very steep and fairly wide which is not normal by any means in Amsterdam.
It was a treat to stay in this Amsterdam canal house for 3 weeks in June/July. We chose this property for its historic interior charm, excellent location and fair pricing -- all confirmed from our stay. The owners graciously allowed my wife and I to entertain a few Dutch friends and family, which was our main objective on this trip to The Netherlands. The owners were easy to work with, before and during our stay. The listing photos are accurate and I write this review as a tenured VRBO owner myself.
Certainly the highlight of this rental is the location and prestige of being located in a grachtenhuis on a less touristy main canal with ideal walking distance proximity to many Amsterdam highlights. The museum quarter is only 10 minutes walk. Superb grocery, pastry, wine shopping along Utrechtstraat and the discovery of Marqt made our stay tops for home cooking and entertaining. We absolutely felt like locals during our stay.
We lucked out with very warm sunny weather and spent our afternoons sitting on the front stoop or in the back garden. The garden was very quiet and perfect to cool down on the hot summer days (note that there is no air-conditioning nor are there any fans – very rarely an issue to be fair).
The bathroom was large and very efficient and we had no problems at all. (note that this house has one full bathroom on the American 4th floor and one powder room on the American 2nd floor). The kitchen and dining areas are very good for cooking and entertaining with a beautiful cupboard of plates, glasses and dishware.
As room for improvement, we found the house to be a bit “tired” and in need of a decent refresher; perhaps because we were there for 3 weeks and really put the house through her paces. There are a number of miscellaneous repairs, a proper garden clean-out and furniture upkeep that are in need of attention. Any one or two items would not be a big deal, but the collection of several issues hold this otherwise tops rental from being 5 stars in our opinion.
Upon reflection, we would also ask the owners to revisit their Euro cash only policy in favor of secure online payments. For EU Euro denominated citizens this is not such a big deal perhaps, but we found the conversion from USD to EUR for such a large amount of money to be surprisingly very expensive and difficult, and an additional cost and consternation that we did not anticipate.
All said, a very good rental experience which we do recommend. Heel erg bedankt!
We just stayed four nights at this property. It is in a wonderful location, right on the Keizersgracht canal. Walking distance to all attractions, museums, shopping, yet just far enough out of the center city's bustle. The kitchen is fully functional and there are a couple markets within 10" walking time. The garden out back is a great place to enjoy morning coffee or tea. Would stay again if visiting Amsterdam!
We could not have been happier with our stay here! A beautiful, traditional, canal home in the perfect location! Like stepping back to a more genteel time. Just as the photos show. Close to great shops, great restaurants, great sights, public transportation - everything you could ever need with Amsterdam at your doorstep. The owners were very accommodating and easy to work with. We highly recommend this property.
Full canal house. located in the historical centre of Amsterdam. Overlooking the stunning Keizersgracht-canal at the front of the house from all floors. Very quiet spacious green parklike garden at the rear of the house. One garden terrace and one second floor terrace. Owner is architect.
