About Jeanene

Gary & Jeanene Jensen are happy to offer this property for you to enjoy your vacation. We have been in the Information Technology business for many years, and have recently started our own IT consulting business. So, with all the travel we do for work, we have purchased our ideal lakefront property that we hope to enjoy fully in our retirement years. We live nearby, our daughter goes to a local school, and Jeanene's family and friends are all in this same general area. Jeanene is a native Texan, while Gary is Canadian born and moved from Canada in 1999 - he really moved to escape those nasty Canadian winters in Edmonton, AB, but didn't realize at the time that he was going from the freezer to the frying pan! The Houston weather took a little getting used to.

Jeanene purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Jeanene chose Lake Livingston

We spent many months selecting what we thought was the perfect property for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. We wanted a property that would offer the best lake views, lots of room to do outdoor activities, fish off the bulkhead, participate in lots of water sports, and enjoy nature in a quiet acreage setting. We believe this is indeed the perfect vacation spot!

What makes this cabin unique

The sunrise and lake views are spectacular. You can sit in the Hot Tub and watch the birds fly over the lake. You can fish right off the bulkhead. You can have a morning coffee on the covered patio with lake view, listen to the wind blow through the many large trees on the property. It is peaceful, relaxing, fun and just an enjoyable spot in every way.

The home was wonderful, very well kept, fantastic views and the water right off the yard is shallow so it was perfect to float and wade around in! Hot tub was great we came back very relaxed and happy!

Really comfortable and relaxing place!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay here. This place has everything you need for a nice relaxing stay. We love the big lot so our Large dog was able to really stretch his legs and explore. Our family really enjoyed the beautiful sunrises in the morning and relaxing in the hot tub in the evening. The addition of a new BBQ pit and a ready to light fire pit was a nice touch. Thank you very much for sharing such a beautiful place with us! We will be back!

Charming Rustic Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Charming cabin, rustic but clean and well stocked. Lots of extras, including makings for s'mores and popsicles in the freezer, plus good variety of seasoning and standard pantry items. Cable/wifi worked fine.

Lake water is shallow, more so than expected -- waist deep or less for several hundred yards -- but bottom was soft and sandy and completely clear of debris. Great for small kids, or if you bring kayaks/paddle boards.

Owners were courteous and responsive. We would stay there again. 👍🏼

Comfortable and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This property was just as described very relaxing. Perfect little get away for our family of 5. My only comment is for ski boaters...The water in this area is extremely shallow a good distance from shore so do not expect to be able to run the boat up near the house quickly to grab lunch or an item you forgot.

We are on the western shores of Lake Livingston within the Sam Houston National Forest in Texas hill country 74 miles North & East of downtown Houston, 60 miles from IAH (George Bush Intercontinental Airport). We are 1 mile from Wolf Creek Park that offers a public boat launch, 3 miles from the prestigious Cape Royale Golf Club and only 10 miles from the quaint town of Coldpsring TX that offers local restaurant fare, antique shopping and trade days where local vendors offer their wares in a flea market type setting. If you need a full service marina, Browders Marina is only 17 miles away.

The Cabin is located just off of a curving, hilly road (FM 224) that is a scenic favorite for cycling enthusiasts. The rolling hills, trees and lush greenery make for a very pleasant bike ride or sight seeing drive.

A larger Urban center, the town of Lake Livingston, is just 30 miles away. Here you will find everything you need for an evening of dining out, shopping, or just getting the essentials from the local Walmart store.

If you are a history buff, San Jacinto County (named for the 1836 battle that ended the Texas revolution against Mexico), has numerous interesting sites nearby: Coldspring which is the county seat has an interesting history of two distinct towns (Old Town - built in the Gullies) and the new part built on the hill. The area is dotted with Historical markers and historic buildings like the Old Town first jail still stands today. Coldspring United Methodist Church is believed to be the oldest Methodist church in continuous use in Texas. Another church, Evergreen United Methodist, was organized in 1862, several years before the county was formed.

The Trapp-McClanahan house, built around 1880, is privately owned and Council Hill, also located on private property, was the home of Vernal B. Lea, brother of Mrs. Sam Houston.

On U.S. Highway 190 is Oakhurst, which was once a prosperous sawmill town named for Oakhurst, Okla., home of several lumber men who moved to Texas.

Three miles north of Oakhurst is Raven Hill, the one-time home of Sam Houston, the hero of San Jacinto. The hill got its name from an Indian name for Houston. Further up U.S. 190 from Oakhurst is Point Plank, which was originally named Point Blanc by a Frenchwoman who moved here from Alabama. The town was also called Point White and White Point.

About a mile south of Point Blank is Robinson Cemetery, where a large monument marks the grave of Gov. George Tyler Wood, who served from 1849 to 1851. Wood's grave was unmarked for more than a half-century until the monument was built.
