About the property

Entire Private Cottage 2br/1 bath with Hot Tub & Shared Pool

Welcome to your ‘Hawaiian Dream Temple’ - This unique & luxurious Asian Style Bamboo Cottage is a custom Eco-designed vacation rental comprised of 1,800 square feet of covered living space, split 'Island style' between 1,000 square feet of indoor space and 800 square feet of 3 covered decks. It’s ideal for 4 to 6 guests looking for a private, peaceful & relaxing destination.

Bedroom 1: Queen Bed | Bedroom 2: Queen Bed | Living Room: Futon (2 extra people can sleep on the Futon in the lounge at an additional rate of $25 per person, per night)

Aloha, the 'Hawaiian Dream Temple' is your best choice for taking your vacation to the next level of serenity as you relax and unwind on the large wrap-around deck in your own private hot tub and admire the tropical flowers and vibrant fauna. Listening to the birds while relaxing on the lanai will be your favorite part of the day.

Perfect for romantic and private honeymoons, the interior is constructed of all hand woven bamboo, and with an open air plan, the ceilings and walls allow for tropical breezes to flow throughout the home. The living room offers a fold out futon for additional sleeping for 2, and the kitchen is fully appointed with appliances and cooking utensils, as well as tea, fruit, croissants and coffee.

Both bedrooms have queen-sized beds and a private lanai (Hawaiian for deck) with beautiful seating areas for morning relaxation or evening reading. The bathroom has an over-sized, deep Jacuzzi tub, plus a shower.

As a guest of the cottage, you'll have shared access to the amazing 40-foot fresh water swimming pool - located a quick 2 minute walk down the drive aside the main house. Designed with an Asian theme in mind, this tropical pool oasis has palm trees swaying in the breeze, creating the perfect place to let your stresses slip away. A lava rock waterfall gurgles next to a shaded balinese meditation gazebo that overlooks a bridge that spans the deep end and 1-foot-deep swimming moats for small kids.

The homeowners welcome you with Aloha and are passionate about creating a special space for your precious time away from it all!

The cottage is completely private and very much separate from the main house. You have your own large yard, private gated driveway and parking area. Situated away from the commercial and 'touristy' areas in the 'Upcountry' of Tropical Haiku, you'll be close to waterfalls, hiking trails, zip lining adventures, horseback riding, cycling routes, and Haleakala crater.

If you're interested in enjoying activities close to home, inquire about hiking to a local waterfall or participating in sound healing sessions with the on-site manager, Lori. The community pool is also available when you prefer to relax by the water.

The cottage is 15 minutes from beaches, the quaint surf town of Paia, and 10 minutes from the upcountry town of Makawao. Even closer is the world famous Ho'okipa beach with its legendary surf break and some of the best windsurfing, kite boarding, & surfing in Hawaii.

You don’t need to walk anywhere to experience the stunning beauty as you drive along the 'Road to Hana' (Highway 360) for fabulous views of the world famous Maui coastline.

After exciting Hawaiian adventures, dine at some of Maui’s best seafood restaurants, like Hawaii's top-rated Mama's Fish House Restaurant, just minutes from the house!

About Lori Lewis

Paul G.: I moved here from England because I fell in love with the aloha of the Hawaiian islands and 'Maui Magic'. As soon as I got off the plane and I felt the warm tropical air, salty ocean breezes and sunlight on my face I knew I wanted to feel this way for the rest of my life.

Lori Lewis purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Lori Lewis chose Haiku-Pauwela

This property is pure Maui magic. I have lovingly landscaped and worked this land for over 13 years, planting many varieties of tropical flowers and palm trees. We have left the old growth Eucalyptus trees to provide lovely shade against the sun, and we receive the north shore's famous trade winds that blow the flowers' scents through the air.

What makes this cottage unique

We have an amazing pool it has a lava rock wall lush with ferns growing over a in-pool bench. It is spectacular! We have an asian theme at our pool with our yoga/meditation platform and a fun bridge spans across the pool. There are two circulating water features on the sides of the pool that allow for shallow water sun bathing as well.

The Hawaiian Dream Temple has a waterfall feature that starts from a wishing well and trickles down a rocky, fern laden stream bed into a pond surrounded by iris, birds of paradise and other native plants. This flows right under the lanai and front doors to your house and is a great place to enjoy your coffee and tea in the morning or a pina colada after a long day at the beach.( This runs at set times and at certain times of year )

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you so very much for your kind heart- respectfully. We had a fantastic time, beautiful scenery. We will for sure be seeing you again in the upcoming year or years.

A Little Slice of Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, and our 2 teenage daughters, stayed here for the first 3 nights of our 2 week Maui vacation. From the moment we pulled in the driveway, we knew we would never forget our time here.

Some of the things we loved; the expression on our girls' faces when we pulled in the driveway, the lovely basket of fresh fruit, banana bread, chocolates and local goodies on the kitchen table when we arrived, waking the girls before dawn to join us in the jacuzzi on the deck to watch the sunrise, the beautiful plants, flowers and trees that cover the property, sitting in the chair by the window reading my book listening to the resident gecko chirping to me (a sign of good luck, I'm told!), taking the short walk down the dirt path for an afternoon dip in the sparkling pool, the feeling of complete privacy-as if we were completely alone in paradise-even though there are neighbors and the owner's property nearby, enjoying a soothing hot shower in the large jacuzzi sized tub, watching the girls fall asleep beneath soft, cool sheets under a beautiful, sheer canopy that hung over their bed, the wonderful breezes that blew through the screened windows and doors, falling asleep to the sound of the rain on the roof and the gentle breeze blowing through the trees.

Some of the things we hated; ..... leaving.

Thank you Jessica for sharing your home with us. We have so many memories and moments that we will remember for a lifetime.

Hawaiian Dream Temple Is a Dream Come True

  • 5 of 5

Great location: a short drive to the beach, great restaurants nearby (appreciated all the recommendations in the HomeAway app as well as in the cottage), close to the airport and popular destinations like Haleakala and Hana. Property has wonderful privacy and space--very quiet and relaxing; felt like a local. Great for families. Gorgeous grounds: lots of flowers, beautiful gardens and trees, private entrance, access to swimming pool at main house. Wraparound deck with hot tub. The cottage is beautiful and comfortably appointed. Wonderful amenities like fully stocked kitchen, modern bathroom, WiFi, laundry room and beach gear. The interior was spotless and very comfortable. Very responsive caretakers when we had a question or request. Would stay here again, no question.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a most wonderful time!

We were welcomed by a beautiful filled basket of fruits and local delicacies.

The hot tub and pool was an added bonus. Slept like a baby under the tree canopies.

Highly recommend.

Centrally located to all Maui attractions.

Beautiful, unique cottage and lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here and would definitely make this our temporary home again if given the chance for another trip to Maui! We initially debated staying here or closer to the ocean and found the uniqueness, quality, and thoughtful touches of our hosts a strong draw that made this one of the best places we could have stayed at in Maui, even though it is inland and on the rainier side. Our kids loved this place, too! We had planned to do quite a bit of travelling throughout the island, and I did find previous reviews indicating this as a good central location a little misleading. We were still quite a drive from Lahaina and Wailea, exacerbated by holidaying during a busy time (spring break for us). Trips to other parts of the island certainly are better as full day trips from this cottage. We spent part of our holiday in Hana, so we did not travel to Hana as a day trip from this location. It is quite close to Hana, so many stops on the road to Hana are reasonably accessible as day trips. As with other reviewers, I recommend keeping in mind that if the weather is on the colder, wetter or cloudier side here, remember there is a good chance it's sunnier and warmer down by the ocean -- don't be fooled into thinking it's not the best day for beach time. The pool is exquisite, and the kids loved it, especially the small waterslide. Apparently, the mechanism to turn the water slide on/off is complex and managed by people living in the main home, who were happy to turn it on for us if they were home while we were at the pool. The pool is close to the main home with hours of about 9am to 7pm. There's still a sense of some privacy while at the pool as it's more beside the house rather than immediately behind the house. It truly is a lovely spot! We were very appreciative of the special touches inside, including welcoming treats, games, travel guides of the area, books, access to beach toys, ample beach and regular towels, lovely furniture on the porch to enjoy the setting and provide space for both family time and quiet time, and a well-stocked kitchen and bathroom with some first aid supplies. I know I am missing items in my list, as well. The netting above the beds is lovely and romantic but ours did fall down a couple of times, so I recommend this being fixed to be more stable. We appreciated all the hooks available for hanging jackets, regular towels and beach towels, and the ample drawer space. Incredible place to stay!

Great space. Very peaceful. A trip to Hanzawa's gas and convenience store is a must. A hidden gem of a lunch counter with the best poke around!
