About Renee Gayheart

My Mom and I live near the University of Cincinnati Ohio. We have a beautiful house with a beautiful garden. I graduated from St. Bernard Elmwood Place High School, and The University of Cincinnati. My Mom graduated from Our Lady of Angels.

Renee Gayheart purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Renee Gayheart chose Lake Cumberland

We stayed in a friends house for Mother's day, and our friend said 'He was building a handicapped accessible house that would be perfect for me. We stayed in the house one time, and I said 'If you ever decide to sell the house let me know.' He called two weeks later and asked me if I would like the house. My Mom and I were so excited and we bought it and have been so happy ever since.

What makes this cottage unique

I am in a wheelchair and the house is truly made for people in wheelchairs. The house is very open so I can get around very easy.

Large rooms, peaceful, nicely decorated, a real comfortable place for families.

  • 4 of 5

We had an EXCELLENT stay, and only wish the week had been longer. And our dogs had a blast. Only problems: refrigerator wasn't real clean, one burner didn't work on the stove, VCR didn't work, floors of both showers needed to be seriously scrubbed, cold air return hadn't been cleaned in a very long time, directions were great, except the closest Kroger was in Somerset, and Renee's phone number was incorrect. We've already talked to Renee about the problems and she promised to have them fixed. This is a truly wonderful find! Especially for the money.

Owner's Response: It was wonderful talking to you on the phone. I hope you will comeback and stay again. The fall is a beautiful time to stay. I plan to go for 2 weeks this fall for some well earned time off.

3 couple getaway, men fishing and ladies antiquing

  • 5 of 5

We found the cottage to be exactly as described and well suited for our purposes. The men in our party were headed west to the Wolf Creek dam area while our wives were destined for the Berea area with shopping stops along the way. The cottage was well located for our differing plans and comfortably appointed.

A Scam

  • 1 of 5

We found out that our boat wouldn't fit from a review less than 24 hours after booking and the owner wouldn't help us at all. The housekeeper showed up two hours after check in. She was very nice and apologetic. Her email said we were coming in Sunday instead of Saturday so it wasn't her fault, Just bad management on the owners part. but the house was a mess when we got there. We couldn't get a hold of the owner because she gave us the wrong phone number until after the housekeeper showed up. We had to pay an extra unexpected $200 to a marina because the parking is only enough for one vehicle (the description says two cars, and in the welcome email it says three cars). The outside wasn't kept up as well as the surrounding resort. The hot tub had nasty stuff floating on top of it so we couldn't use it. we could have paid just $30 more to get a different house (from VRBO) with all of the above taken care of. Next time we will do that.

Owner's Response: This traveler did not read the rental agreement before booking her reservation. Her biggest complaint is that she could not park her boat. In my rental agreement it says that I don't have boat parking. I did try to get 4 different friends of mine to allow them to park their boat. Also the traveler came before the check in time, and the house was not ready yet. Over all this was a bad experience for both of us. I hope future guests will read some of the other reviews. And to contact me if you have any questions or concerns, and I would be glad to address them.

Beds falling apart feet sticking to floor

  • 1 of 5

The rental has 2 bedrooms with bed frames that are ready to fall in on you. You have to sleep at the foot of the bed just to keep your head up hill. The carpets are so sticky you have to keep your shoes on and everything in the house felt like it was wet. There is only parking for 2 cars back to back and no room for a boat which would have been nice to know up front instead it cost an extra $90.00 to keep my boat the Marina. The rental is not part of the rest of the complex which is hard to tell kids who see pools & play sets that they aren't allowed to use because the rental is not part of the association. This is very apparent when you speak with the people around you. You have no chemicals or test strips to maintain the hot tub so no way to know if its safe or not. The master bedroom has pocket doors and are almost impossible to open or close without help form someone on the other side to help center the door up. Cottage could be a nice if someone put any effort into making it so.

Owner's Response: There is nothing wrong with the bed frames. I have slept in the beds myself, and I feel very confident that the bed is strong. I am paralyzed, and if I didn't feel secure in the bed I surely would not have my guest sleeping on an unsafe bed. I am not sure what the reviewer is talking about when he said "That you have to sleep at the foot of the bed." But I had the house keeper check the bed, and she also said "That nothing was wrong with the beds." As far as the floor feeling sticky the house has carpet in the entire house except the kitchen, and the bathroom. And we had the carpet shampooed before the guest arrived, and the house keeper sweeps, and mops the tile every time someone checks out. The parking is limited, but there is enough room for parking if you park your cars the way I instruct you too! I tell all of my guests in the rental agreement that I don't have room for parking boats ahead of time. I also tell people, and put it into the rental agreement that my house is self contained. And that I am not apart of the resort. Which means my guest can only use the facilities in the back of the house. I have my own play set right outside the back door, and a fire pit, and corn hole set. The hot tub is maintained by the house keeper before the guest arrives. I am able to charge a lower rate per night because I am not apart of the resort. And most of my guest a very happy with the house, and all of the things I supply for them to have a wonderful vacation. Most of the issues this man had were because he did not read the rental agreement before he booked the house. And he did not ask me any questions. I always tell my guests that they can contact me at any time with any questions. Please read the other reviews, and see what other guests have said about the house.

Fantastic

We had a wonderful stay here. Just making memories with my family. Loved the fact that it was pet friendly, as it is very hard to find a place that is. Enjoyed visiting local attractions and the lake was beautiful. Thank you Renee.

Owner's Response: Thank you Ellen for the wonderful review. It means so much to us that our guest are happy. We work very hard to keep the cottage in tip top condition. And we try to anticipate the things at the Cottage that will make your stay as close to perfect as we can. We hope to see you again next year. Or again this summer.
