The 'Lighthouse' is a special lodging overlooking the town and harbor of Grand Marais from it's center. You are right in the heart of town within a block of everything- yet comfortably removed when you need a breather. You can sit up in bed and view the harbor and the big lake beyond. Your own private parking leads to the stairway that takes you up to the Lighthouse. The view of the old harbor from the balcony is stunning. There is a wrought iron table and chairs on the balcony for relaxing. Inside the Lighthouse you will find a queen bed, tile shower and bathroom, galley kitchen, custom dining table for two, LCD TV with satalite TV and blueray. The bed is set at an angle and faces southeast to capture the views of the harbor in the morning through large windows. There are transom windows around the perimeter of the apartment so that if you stand in the center you have a 360 degree view of the sky. Notice how it changes as the day progresses. Observe the color differences around sunset or early in the morning as the Great Lake passes through it's moods. The ceiling is very high and is vaulted and timberframed with unique 'Dragon Beams' from local timberframe artisans. Topping the lighthouse is an octagonal cupola that lets light in all day and moonlight at night. And on top of the cuppola is a custom copper ball, in keeping with the lighthouses of the North Shore. An antique ship's light occupies the cuppola and can guide you as you walk home after a night of festivities in the town. Seagulls are your companions and you may hear their webby feet tapping on the roof in the morning. Watch the fog roll in and out from your bed while you drink your morning coffee, and listen to the strains of local live music as the town celebrates the short summers at night. The gally kitchen is small but thoroughly modern with all the necessities. The Lighthouse is above the 'North Shore Fisherman's Cabin', a restored historic log home (VRBO# 405338) and is next door to the 'Writer's Cabin' (VRBO# 452067) and 'The Boathouse' a recently constructed timberframe home that is the residence of the owners. You are always welcome to drop in to the Boathouse and see what project is under way. Currently the owner is building an Alaskan skiff. If you are traveling with a large group, consider including the neighboring Fisherman's and Writer's cabins which share the property. There is capacity for a group of 12 or so if you rent all the cabins. You can get the whole family reunion or wedding group on one site! The Lighthouse is known for it's inspiring charm. There have been plays and musicals written here, a handfull of proposals, and a good number of honeymoons. Come share the fantastic energy that is The Lighthouse.

Why Todd and Susan Miller chose Grand Marais
We chose this location because it is very special. We are lifelong Miinnesotans and have been passing through Grand Marais our whole lives. We wanted a home on the North Shore, and we believe that Grand Marais is the jewel of the North Shore. Within Grand Marais we wanted to be close to the action and the water. Although this is a very small town, it has big shoulders when it comes to culture and beauty. We belive our specific location is magical because the big lake cools us in summer and warms us in winter. We never get tired of the many moods of Lake Superior and enjoy watching the lake from this property.
What makes this Studio unique
This is a great location for the summer festivals fall leaf looking, and winter get always. Music and art seem to permeate the town and strains of music can be heard most times of the day and in to the evening in the summer. Artists are plying their wares in many shops. There is always something interesting going on at the Boathouse next door, and North House Folk School is very close. On stormy nights the breaking waves send a deep rumble through the bedrock. Not only is the Lighthouse charming, It is a cleverly designed lodging- and has been praised by a notable architect guest for it's creative use of geometry, timberframing, and blend of luxurious appointments while retaining economy of space.

Lots of Fun!
A very unique place to stay and very comfortable.
We loved the comfy, homey feel of the Lighthouse. Susan and Todd were so friendly
The view of the Grand Marais Harbor was beautiful. We stayed for 2 nights and had everything we needed. The Lighthouse is the perfect size for 2. So close to the restaurants and shops, you can walk. The owners Susan and Todd were so friendly, they shoveled after a beautiful snowfall. The woodwork is amazing. Would love to return when it is warmer. Thanks for recommending the different eateries but the kitchen is great to make a meal too. The light in the cupola made for a nice soft light, nice touch. My 84 year old mom had no problem with the stairs. The place is so nice and private.
Thanks so much! Say "Hi" to your Mom and please come see us again when you can. Todd and Susan.
Needed a few days to just get away!
Great location! just the right size for two people or one, pack light! beautiful view of the harbor and the price was right I would definitely come back here again !
Quaint and Cozy
Our stay at the Lighthouse was enjoyable. We loved how snuggly, quaint and clean it was. Everything was of good quality and we felt right at home! During our stay, there was a bit of construction happening next door (which wasn't ideal) but Todd and Susan were upfront about it from the beginning with excellent communication. They continued to prove the open, honest communication method throughout our stay which made all the difference in the world. When we had questions or concerns, they responded immediately with a solution or an offer to work together to make our stay as best it could be. We will definitely be back as soon as we can!
Thank you so much! For our future guests: the construction next door should be mostly complete by the end of April, with some lingering minor work and some landscaping going on in May. Thanks again! Todd and Susan
Beautiful spot that felt like a sanctuary for a weekend getaway for our anniversary. Perfect location. Great character. Made breakfast and enjoyed the views. We liked that there was also a tv with cable so we could enjoy a movie while relaxing in bed. This is a must! Also want to check out their new homes when they’re finished.
Thanks so much! Come back soon and we will show you the new ones. Todd and Susan.
