We thank you for visiting us & hope to hear from you soon! You will love it as much as we do & want to come back year after year!
My parents purchased the property for our family & we lived here year round until the winters got to tough on my mother. However, we lived here for the summer months & my parents rented out the cottages until 1991. My mom used to do all the interior work & would make & sew all the curtains! We had regular 'renters' year after year, some of whom my parents became good friends with & would play bridge or 'uno' in our summer home. We 'kids' would play with their 'kids', fish, waterski, boat, swim, or do what kids love to do, play! It was a great place to grow up & my children who now have children of their own, own the property with me, and love it as much as I do! We are in this joint venture together & you will choose our site for your vacation. We hope you will join us @ this beautiful property on the shores of Lake Champlain!
Ardie Griffin/Tom D./ Kelly P. purchased this cottage in 1951

The main message/point of Watch Point Inn and Cottages is that it is your multi-facet 'to go' place. Let go and let Watch Point location help you become replenished as you re-goup with fun and relaxation for your next bout of your regular routine. As for me, I took my journey to Watch Point to visit my longtime friend Ardie and husband, Mike. Not only to take a trip down memory lane with my friend, but to live in her new life with Mike. I was so happy I did! It was rewarding in every way. Down to a drop-in from her daughter Kelly and her family. I had not seen Kelly since she was a little girl and it was an unexpected pleasure. The reunion was amazing as Ardie, Mike, Kelly, and the rest of family are amazing! I stayed in the Inn itself which was special and was treated like a Queen. Living in Ardie's and Mike's world was without a doubt the greatest experience! So you see, there are many reasons to visit Watch Point Inn and Cottages. The Charisma will draw you back time and again after time as it will become your traditional location place.
A rustic lakefront getaway, off the beaten path with wonderful amenities (hot tub, BBQ, large cabin, ON the lake). The proprietors, Ardie & Mike, couldn't have been more hospitable and helpful. The cabin was comfortable, recently updated, well-equipped with a full kitchen and super quiet. Minutes from the ferry to Ft. Ticonderoga/NY Lake George.
The drive through the apple orchards and woods is idyllic and delightful. People considering a visit should know that the nearest gas station/food mart is a 10 minute drive and virtually all eateries and tourist sites require a significant drive.
Watch Point Inn and Cottages is a rare find: beach front property on Lake Champlain. Hosts Ardie and husband Chef Mike are warm and welcoming. The 57-acre property has been in Ardie's family for more than 60 years. In addition to the main house, which dates to 1800, there are three 1920's vintage cottages that have recently had down-to-the-studs renovations. The results are bright, clean and airy while retaining the casual and “beachy” ambiance of the classic summer cottage. The cottages feature up to date kitchens and baths as well as indoor/outdoor living with ample decks and patios overlooking the lake and the Adirondack Mountains on the New York side.
Set several miles down a narrowing unpaved road, arriving at Watch Point feels like stepping out of “civilization” into a place set off from the daily grind. Yet for those who can't bear to disconnect completely, the property has cell service and satellite TV and wi-fi.
Although each cottage is amply equipped for DIY cooking, including gas grills, Chef Mike will prepare custom --and delicious-- dinners with a day or so notice. Talk with him about what you would like and then just relax. You will be delighted. Served in the Screen Porch at the main house, dinners also feature fresh-baked desserts and are very reasonably priced.
Shoreham. VT is a very small village with limited amenities. You may want to bring along your dry groceries and pick up your immediate cold goods – milk, juice, eggs, butter and cold beer, etc-- at the Mobil mart on route 22A, just beyond the route 74 turn. If you are coming from the south on route 4, there is a Shaw's supermarket just south of the Exit 2 interchange on 22A. At that point, you are about 40 minutes from Watch Point. More extensive shopping and browsing can be found in Middlebury, about 30 minutes east of Shoreham.
Coming through the village of Shoreham, route 74 turns left. Bear right at the Watch Point Rd sign. If you miss this, several miles down route 74, you can turn right on Smith Street (unpaved) and you will come out at Watch Point; turn left.
The beachfront is somewhat rocky. Swim shoes will be your friend. The lake waters (in late July) are very refreshing and quite comfortable for extended swimming and other in-water activities.
I missed it as soon as I left and look forward to coming back.
This is just what we were looking for- quiet, relaxing, clean, comfortable, with wonderful views of the lake and mountains. And, to have chef Mike prepare a wonderful dinner and breakfast was the icing on the cake. We loved the Golden Eagle cottage, with it's cathedral ceiling and open airy feel. Ardie and Mike are great hosts that do whatever they can to make your stay enjoyable. They offer lots of activities- fishing, boat rides, BBQ's, row boat and kayak rentals- great for families. But it's also a super place for just relaxing and enjoying nature. We didn't see any blue heron, but we did spot eagles several times, and stopped to watch deer in the woods on our way back to the cottage from town. The surrounding area is beautiful- miles of orchards, rolling hills, farms. We loved listening to the birds in the morning, and watching the sun set behind the mountains in the evening. This is a unique place that would appeal to many people, and we would recommend it.
We needed a quiet, relaxing lakefront vacation so did research and decided on Watch Point Inn & Cottages in Vermont. Right from the beginning the owner Ardie was prompt returning my request for availability and answered my questions, gave us detailed area info so we booked our stay. Had a welcoming arrival and tour of "Osprey"cottage--loved this place, very clean and comfortable and so beautiful right on Lake Champlain with awesome views day & night, very private and quiet and super pet friendly--loved meeting their dog Shiloh and our dog seemed very relaxed & right at home in the cottage. This area is close to Middlebury which has great shops and restaurants plus we loved visiting all the historical sites close by. Keep thinking about our stay here and will be coming back and will get out on the pontoon boat next time and would recommend this property to couples and families. Thank you Ardie & Mike for your friendly manner and great hospitality, we had such a wonderful time, LaRee, Tim Hummel and German shepherd Abbie.
As we pulled away from Watch Point the kids were already asking if we had booked for next year! Six kids, ages 3 to 8, three parents and one grandparent all agreed it had been a great vacation. A perfect place for kids to fish, play soccer and baseball, swim, and just hang out. Ardie and Mike are warm and welcoming hosts and went out of their way to make us feel at home. We took advantage of Mike's cooking for a wonderful Friday evening barbecue. So much to do in surrounding area and we loved Middlebury, a lovely town about 20 minutes away. We came from three different locations (NYC, New Jersey and Ottawa, Canada) and we all had an easy and beautiful drive to get there. The two cabins we rented were the right size for us and we loved the outdoor picnic tables, fire pits, barbecues and hot tub! I'm guessing we'll go back for sure.
Fort Ticonderoga is just minutes away! Shelburne Museum, The Morgan horse farm, golf courses, boating, biking events, the newly built Lake Champlain Bridge & much more! Come & enjoy this beautiful area with our golden & bald eagles, falcons, hawks, osprey, and catch the big cat fish, bass, no. pike & more! Enjoy the scenic mts. & the beautiful sunsets right from your own deck or porch! Enjoy our weekly bonfires (weather permitting) & Friday evening BBQ's by our on premises cook! Enjoy a scenic ride on our motor boat or take a ride in one the rowboat provided with each cottage or have your own cookout in the back area of your own cottage! Ideal location for children since there is no traffic but for the other guests & owners on the property! Bring your dog! Don't leave him/her in a kennel! For a min. chg., you can bring your loved pet with you & not leave him @ home! (Please inquire). You will love our location, it is truly a one of a kind property! In the late spring or early summer you can drive to the orchards & pick your own strawberries, raspberries, etc. And the fall season we have the best orchards in New England for apple picking! Come & enjoy! Your hosts are waiting to greet you & help make your vacation the best & most relaxing you have ever had! Come & RELAX!!
