About Stacia Takach

We are the Takachs'; Stacia & Mike {parents to Zeke and Issac too :) our adorable yet rambunxious brindle male boxers!} We are small business owners who currently live in Cape Cod Massachusetts. Michael is a stone mason and Stacia runs our three small businesses. We welcome you to The Bear Den and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Lake Placid is a magical place for us. On our second date in 2004 we visited Lake Placid to take in the splendor and beauty of the Adirondacks amidst the peak of Fall Foliage! Lake Placid is where we fell in love, got engaged and eventually married on the shore of Lake Placid six years to the day of our first trip here together! For years we had been searching for a property that not only we could love but we could share with others that feel the same way we do about the Adirondack Park!

We hope that you find as much joy as we do when staying at The Bear Den. Weather you are on a family vacation, Ironman training week (or weeks), romantic getaway, honeymoon or just a quick trip with family and friends to get back to the beauty of the Adirondacks we know you will make memories that last forever! WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME and we hope to see you very soon..............

Stacia Takach purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Stacia Takach chose Lake Placid

We wanted a property that would offer people the best of both worlds. To be right in town (less than 1.5 miles form Main Street Lake Placid) and also be in a wooded setting. The Bear Den will give you the privacy and seclusion you are looking for but you are steps away from any activity or amenity you could wish for.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin is in a secluded location but steps away from town. The Bear Den can accommodate 6 people however there is a bed and breakfast at the end of our street that can assist in accommodating larger parties.

Winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Bear Den in late March. We had resigned ourselves to the idea that there would be no snow, but Lake Placid ended up getting 42 inches the week of our arrival! When we arrived though, the secluded driveway leading up to the house as well as our parking space were perfectly clear of snow. The house itself is updated, beautifully decorated, spacious and very comfortable. The property is private and very quiet, and the neighbors that we ran into seemed nice. The owners were great to work with, even answering a late evening call to help us with directions (though the place is actually not hard to find...we are just too dependent on Google Maps, which does not list the street). The owners were so concerned about the snow removal that they were willing to travel to Lake Placid to clear it if it was not done.

During our stay, we skied/boarded at Whiteface and went snowshoeing at Cobble Hill. We relaxed in front of the fireplace, and enjoyed dinners out (very much recommend Smoke Signals and Caffe Rustica).

We hope to come back again soon!

(The only suggestion I would make is to add a lamp to the living room, it is a little difficult to read at night!)

Perfect retreat!

  • 5 of 5

The moment you arrive at "The Bear Den" the cozy Adirondack cottage brings you "there". The owners' personal touch in the decor , upkeep and amenities are evident....After a few solid days of hiking and skiing, it was completely enjoyable relaxing in front of the fireplace, while we could cook meals at leisure and sip cocktails!

late summer vacation

Stacia...we have rated our stay at the Bear Den as one of our all time favorite get-a-ways...the secluded feel and benefits afforded us while staying in an urban area that was so close to the great restaurants Lake Placid offers was just perfect...we couldn't have found a more suitable location to meet up with our son who lives in New York and his girlfriend who both love the outdoors and activities this area offers...we will always remember our stay in your wonderful cabin and look forward to visiting again...we will certainly recommend it to friends and fellow travelers.

Ski Get Away

Your cabin was perfect! We really enjoyed the high-end finishing touches…real bark wall coverings, the rough chiseled edges in the kitchen, etc.. My wife especially liked the radiant heat in the bathroom!!! I loved all of the outdoor Christmas lights being on a timer. Great place! The location was perfect too, so close to town yet secluded.

We had a spectacular time as well. It snowed every day, the type of snow where after 8 hours you have a dusting… The night before we hit Whiteface, the Mountain got fresh powder, perfect! The skiing conditions were the best I ever experienced at Whiteface. There were no lines either; we had the Mountain all to ourselves! Stephanie, Justin, and I all skied from 8:30am to 4:00pm.

As usual, we made it to the Cottage for drinks. That’s always nice and cozy.

Brooklin and Camden are big fans too. Although, Camden wasn’t having that bear looming over her head. She often stared at it and made a soft, but guttural growl :)

Thanks again. We will recommend your cabin every chance we get!!!

One of our favorite vacations EVER!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoy traveling....especially to new places.....so, we had decided way back in December 2013 (inspired by all the snow we were having) that we wanted to visit the Adirondacks. Lake Placid seemed like a great place to go with all of the winter sports, the Olympic history, and quaint village activities. So, the quest to find just the right place for our week-long vacation began.....and, thankfully, the Bear Den fell in our lap, thanks to VRBO!!

This cabin was absolutely PERFECT for what we were looking for.....cute, quaint, Adirondacky vibe, pet friendly, wood fireplace, modern amenities, centrally located, and quiet/woodsy area. As soon as we pulled up, I immediately teared up because it was just so adorable, plus it was all decorated for the holidays (including pretty white lights). The interior was adorable, warm and inviting. Beds were extremely comfortable, kitchen had pretty much any pot/pan/glass/utensil you might need, bathroom had plenty of room AND heated floors, and the fireplace provided a great area to get cozy and warm on a winter day. Unfortunately, it was WAY too cold to utilize the outdoor firepit, but that was certainly a fantastic amenity in our book. The Bear Den was also very close to town with all of its activities and eateries and, if you go the "back way," was also convenient to both local grocery stores (about a 5 minute drive). We did tons of stuff that week (all very close by) - Olympic history tour, Olympic museum, Jumping complex and tubing, Whiteface skiing, Mt. VanHoevenburg and the bobsled experience, and skating on the Olympic oval - and The Bear Den was always a perfect place to come back to for some adult libations, a nice fire, and some relaxation. The four adults and the one chocolate Lab on this vacation loved every second of it, partially due to the amazing accommodations we were in.

Stacia and her husband are incredibly hospitable, helpful and very prompt in answering all inquiries regarding the cabin and the area. We would ABSOLUTELY come back here in a heartbeat and hope to do it very soon. Can't stop raving about how awesome it all was. Love, love, loved it!!!!

This is a cute and cozy cabin. It was very well maintained and clean. The bed is extremely comfortable too. The owners were happy to answer any questions regarding the property and/or the surrounding area of Lake Placid. I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. Best of luck to you Michael and Stacia! You have a beautiful property.
