We are Patti and Wes, from Edmonton Alberta Canada. We really enjoy our vacation home in Costa Rica. We have worked to make our little casa as comfortable and beautiful as possible.
Wes Versailles purchased this house in 2009
We have travelled to many places and really like the secure environment that Costa Rica has provided to traveler's. Playa Carrillo is the nicest beach in the country and a great area to go on day adventures. Our place is one of the best places to go if you want a quiet private holiday that also allows you to go out and socialize if needed.
Very Private, with breathtaking views all day long.
The views are unbelievable. I've been to Costa Rica many times before. This house was in a great area. You heard monkeys everyday. You saw beautiful humming birds 3 ft away from the deck. Very quiet A perfect getaway. All this and only a few minutes to town.
My wife and I and another couple spent 17 nights at this casa (Feb. 19 to Mar. 7, 2016) and enjoyed the well-thought-out design for two couples with a main floor master bedroom and an upstairs bedroom and bath affording privacy. The tiled deck which wraps around two sides of the casa provides both morning and afternoon shade on hot sunny days plus a great view. The small pool was perfect for cooling off regularly during the heat of the day. It was 35 deg. C most days.
We enjoyed watching a great variety of birds along with the resident iguanas and the howler monkeys that fed on seeds on the trees right in front of the deck with baby monkeys clinging to their mothers as they moved through the bare branches. The kitchen is well equipped with good appliances. There are air conditioning units in both bedrooms to keep the temperature reasonable.
We arrived in a 2WD Nissan Sentra which we rented near the Liberia Airport two weeks earlier. It was entirely inadequate for the road up to the casa---about 2-1/2 km of very steep gravel. After a difficult second trip up with supplies from Samara, my wife and I drove two hours back to the car rental agency and traded the car for a 4WD Nissan X-Trail which handled the hill very well. The VRBO web site says "car recommended." It should say "4WD essential" for comfort and safety.
Property manager Terry Lewis responded promptly to our questions and concerns. It would be helpful if the casa had an information folder with the address and phone number of the casa, emergency numbers, and how to deal with garbage, where to shop and eat, and how to reset the alarm system and the router. The internet speed varied wildly during the day and rebooting the router helped.
We can highly recommend the restaurants at Villa Bosque in Estrada, El Colibri in Carrillo and Samara Pacific Lodge, Gusto Beach, Coco's and Lo Que Hay ("It Is What It Is") in Samara. Lo Que Hay is great for a Tico breakfast. And, of course, there is no beach in Costa Rica nicer than Playa Carrillo with palms for shade, clean white sand, good swimming---and with this comfortable casa to come home to.
The most quiet, secluded, relaxing get away one could ever imagine. Rented a car and visited many beaches which were beautiful but the preferred one is the one 10 minutes away. Went to many local restaurants which were excellent experiences.
Definitely recommended! We WILL be returning!
The house was amazing! It is very secluded and there are no other houses around, perfect for what we were looking for. Everything in the house was nice and new and we had everything we needed there. While the property is on the west coast you can see the sunrise over the ocean due to how it is situated on the mountain. This house is the perfect escape for a couple!
Photos do not describe just how good this house is. It was spotless, well-maintained and had everything we needed to be comfortable away from home for a week, or even much longer. It has lots of space and a good kitchen and laundry, and miles of great views from the massive balcony. The closest neighbours are a short drive away and well out of earshot so you feel completely surrounded by nature. We woke up at 5.30 every morning to watch the sun rise and eat breakfast watching hummingbirds in the garden, geckos on the walls and sometimes monkeys in the trees. The pool was nice for an afternoon dip after a day in the sun, and at night we turned off all the lights to sit under the stars. We spent most days on almost deserted Carrillo beach or in the nearby town of Samara, learning to surf and paddle board. Lots of small restaurants and bars to choose from, our favourite was Gusto Beach for evening dinner and drinks. Ask property manager Terry for more information, he was very welcoming and helpful in every aspect. We travelled as a couple and it was very romantic, but we would be happy taking other people along with us.
Hopefully back for the same time next year!
