not what we expected

  • 2 of 5

my mother , father and sisters family stayed here at the cabin. we were very disappointed, thought they were nice people. Seemed welcoming but than showed a different side. We were even considering buy this cabin. Now after this visit nope. The toilets wound not flush properly. We cleaned as was said on contract, only thing they were not clear on the trash. they wanted us to take the trash to the road on a Monday get this these are plastic bags and pick up was not until Thursday. We called to get some clarification and there was no answer. I would not recommend this place if you have children or pets or anyone under the age of 60

Owner's Response: These guests said they enjoyed their stay and never reported any problems. One month later after an receiving a lower than expected rating from Management they posted this review. In regards to trash, there is a can in garage, management picks-up on Thursday mornings (has never been on Monday) and takes to roadside. To be fair, I believe the house rules do say that trash is picked up Thursday mornings at the roadside, this was prior to trash company requiring totes at roadside over one year ago. The house rules have been updated.

The manager, living near property

  • 2 of 5

We arrived at the checkin time on Thursday, 12/29 for a 3 night stay. On Friday, our plan was to sled near the cabin. The family proceeded to the next road from the cabin. The area was isolated, no one was seen in the area and we were enjoying our family time in the snow. After about 45 minutes, the manager of our rental cabin appeared and rudely told us we could not be there. When I explained we had rented the cabin just around the corner, he said,"you rented a cabin not 100 acres. After that we moved to another location but far away from the cabin and enjoyed the rest of our day on the tubes and sleds.

Later, i met with the manager and informed him we would need more firewood. He, again in rude and short terms, only responded, "No you don't". In both incidents he offered no explanation or reasons why. Still later that day he arrived in his four wheeler at the cabin and let himself in to inspect the wood bin. He told us that there was more wood in the garage under a rug but that he wouldn't use that much firewood in a week. We did not believe we were using it faster than normal. Just burning it as we were together at night.

This was the second time we have rented this cabin. The first time was under other management in 2006 and we had a wonderful time sledding and playing in the snow. We had no issues the first visit.

We have rented many different cabins in the Brazos area in the past 15 years and never had an issue previously. If this manager is responsible for this cabin in the future, we will not stay here.

Owner's Response: The home is located on 8 acres, very private, the first home in the development. Our guests enjoy the feeling that they are in the forest, large parcels and quite peaceful. There are no public roads in the development, only private driveways and other privately owned properties. The main road (512) is very nice for taking a stroll and watching wildlife. Many visitors enquire in advance as to where they can partake in their favorite outdoors sports and we are happy to assist them in locating an area that suits their needs where there is public access. Although we are disappointed with this guests experience, we have had a good rapport with our guests in the past and look forward to serving the needs of our future visitors.

Great time, relaxed with family, no distractions!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for my parent's 40th anniversary and there was plenty of room for the 10 of us. The cabin was spacious and had everything we needed. It was easy to find and the whole trip went smoothly. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going back again!

The best getaway that we have ever had. So beautiful and peaceful!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family was attending a 5 day family reunion in Chama, NM and a colleague at work had recommended this site to rent a home for a family versus renting a hotel. This was the best decision we could have done. The property located in the Brazos area was amazing! The size of the house was perfect for all 6 of us staying there with a baby, with room to spare. The beds and linen were clean, the space was more than we could have asked for. The fact that they have a new water system made it so much nicer for all of us, both for cooking and drinking. The full use kitchen had everything you need to cook for your family without an added expense of eating out, plus they have a grill for outdoor cooking as well. The outside of the house is perfect to sit out and enjoy the scenery with a wrap around porch, which has always been a dream of mine to have. In the early mornings, if you're lucky, you get deer that come up to the porch to greet you. Remember to take crackers to feed them. My grand baby, who is 18 months, loved this. She was so excited. We loaded FB with pictures to family and they were all amazed. At night, the area is quiet and peaceful and taking in the beautiful sounds of nature with a nice glass of wine is priceless. You will never find another place like this one. And did I tell you that the greatest feature of all is a washer and dryer, so when you return home, the chore of doing laundry is gone! This is one of most memorable family getaways that we have ever had. I can't wait til I can do it again. Special thanks to Michelle and her husband who manage the property. They did an amazing job and were attentive to our every need. So if you are planning a trip to this area, check this place out, you will have no regrets, plus the price is less than that of hotels for the amount of days.
