Great comfortable base for exploring the North Coast

  • 5 of 5

Ron and Melanie were very welcoming. The house has every amenity. Lots of room. The kids (10 & 12) entertained themselves for hours in the gardens with the chickens, ducks, koi and hot tub! You could easily spend tranquil days relaxing around the house and on the deck, but it is also a great central location to explore the region. Beach Combing on Agate Beach, Exploring Fern Canyon, Tide Pooling at Palmer's Point, cruising on the Madaket, rare animals at the Sequoia Park Zoo, artisan tools at The Blue Ox, Kayaking around Stone Lagoon, bird watching at Arcata Marsh, Food and Victorian splendor in Ferndale (you are also staying in Victorian Splendor) and of course, the TREES. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful property.

  • 5 of 5

The house was great, beautiful. A couple minor complaints. The wifi is very weak and the groundskeeper was running power equipment outside the house during the whole weekend. I understand he only comes a couple times a month. The grounds were great. Chickens, ducks and koi. Huge gardens. Will be back.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

The historic Zanone House is truly impeccably restored. Staying there transported us to a more elegant time while also providing us with all the modern amenities that added comfort to the historical building. We were visiting our son and family and we enjoyed dinner together in the beautiful dining room. Our two year old granddaughter enjoyed the flock of ducks and chickens on the spacious three acre property. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We have stayed in many Home Away properties but this is the best. We have recommended this to our friends. It is centrally located and an easy trip to downtown and beyond. Very highly recommended!

Adorable and Authentic Victorian

  • 5 of 5

The pictures of the home and property vastly understate the beauty of this home and the lot. The ceilings are at least 9 feet tall. The home has been completely refurbished in authentic Victorian style. Graced with a modern kitchen, wifi, a skylight, and modern amenties, the home also has a gas fireplace, a farmhouse sink, copies of Victorian wallpaper, wood trim everywhere, and is light and bright. The lot is shared with the owners, Melanie and Ron, who are wonderful hosts. The lot includes use of a large side yard, a landscaped garden with heirloom roses, at least 80 redwood trees, a BBQ grill, a jacuzzi, ample outdoor and indoor seating, a koi pond, chickens and ducks. There is an organic vegetable and rose garden worth seeing. On the down side, Eureka is noted to have a depressed economy with many homeless persons roaming around. The home is across the street from a boarding house in horrendous disrepair with unsettling types that leave you alone, but could be unnerving for some, and you best not leave your car or any belongings therein on the street. There is an attack rooster that I hope the Kuehl's have removed. Although we were duly warned and easily avoidable, it attacked a family member, who was stupid, but left several nasty holes on her leg, and incapacitated her for a few days. Overall I believe it is the best rental in Eureka and I would gladly stay again and again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are taking action with both the owner of the boarding house and the police to attempt to quiet things down across the street. As you said they are basically harmless, but the noise can be annoying and we are attempting to abate.it. We are sorry about the rooster. He is no longer in residence. Ron and Melanie
