If you want peace and serenity, THIS IS WHAT YOU'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR! If you want to party, this is NOT the place. No pets or smokers allowed, and please do not bother asking because we have a strict policy about this and will always say no.
Newly constructed in 2016, with an inspiring eastern view from the deck. Enjoy comfort, style, and modern amenities all wrapped up in a quiet neighborhood where you can hear the birds chirp and the wind rustle the leaves. Our guest house is its own private standalone home with its own private entrance and one parking spot. The floors are gorgeous acacia hardwoods throughout and modern "brushed linen" tile (no carpet anywhere).
This space has a full kitchen, stocked with full-sized appliances, quartz counters, large sink, and all cooking/eating utensils that you'll need to make a great meal. The bathroom is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hand soap, and hair dryer. The ceilings throughout are vaulted, giving an airy feel, with ceiling fans. All bedding and linens, including blankets, are washed for each stay. We emphasize and take pride in cleanliness.
If you are a party of 5, please check with me before booking. This space will fit 5, with the ideal being 2 adults and 3 children. The fold-out sofa will not fit 2 adults, so this space cannot accommodate a party of 5 adults.
We built the space with basic Feng Shui principles in mind for this size space. We chose this spot on our property so that guests could enjoy the natural beauty of the setting, especially the sunrise over the mountains to the east from the deck. Window positioning inside the home was chosen to take advantage of the views and the cross-breeze that being on a hill affords. We have new (2016) central heat and AC as well. Outside are four chairs to soak in the beautiful eastern mountains and tree canopy views. We have a cute little succulent garden as well, and would be happy to offer you cuttings if you'd like to take some home. If you like yoga, bring your mat! There is space on the deck for you to get in your practice. Feel free to move things around as needed.
All the photography on the walls is by my husband, who is a professional photographer. The bed/headboard and other wall art is handmade by me. I enjoy all sorts of carpentry and I like making both decorative and functional items from wood. The desk in the bedroom is handmade by a local Mt. Helix artisan. Put your clothes in the antique Javanese hutch in the bedroom, which was built in the 1800s! Be sure to check out the carving details on this amazing piece of furniture! We get a lot of requests from past guests wanting to know the brand of our mattress because it's so comfy! Here it is: Simmons Beautyrest Pacific Series in California King size.
You have full access to the guest house and its amenities. This includes the deck and side yard in front of the deck. Your parking spot is the one at the top of the driveway area, with the black iron fence.
We are very flexible with whatever level of interaction you prefer. We respect your privacy, so if you'd like no interaction that is no problem! I am very available via text and message, for urgent or emergency situations and for questions you have about the property. My hope is that your stay is very pleasant.
Our guest house is in the Mt. Helix neighborhood of La Mesa, CA. Our neighborhood is for those seeking quiet and serenity during their stay. This is not a neighborhood for anyone who wants to party, talk/laugh loudly, or play loud music. If you're looking for "livelier" places to stay, we recommend staying in downtown San Diego. What we love about Mt. Helix is that it's a semi-rural setting that is still quite close to downtown San Diego and beaches. The landscape here is a beautiful tapestry of unique gardens surrounding custom, artsy, older homes. Our neighborhood is hilly, with winding roads and beautiful views from most streets. We have shopping nearby (not walking distance, but an easy car drive) like grocery stores, coffee shops, fast food restaurants, gas stations, etc. The climate here is perfect. It is almost always about ten degrees warmer than the coast during the day. At night it can be about ten degrees cooler than the coast. Nearby (about 5 minutes drive) is La Mesa Village, which is a quaint, cute, walkable setting with lots of great dining/drinking options as well as boutique shops and antique stores. Try heading up to Mt. Helix Park (check my guidebook for location), which is a short 3-4 minute drive from our house. There you will enjoy sweeping panoramic views from the amphitheater and breathtaking sunsets. There is also a 1/4 mile hiking trail around the peak of Mt. Helix.
You will need a car to get around. If you don't want to take your car into downtown San Diego, you can always park at a trolley stop and take the trolley. There are trolley stops throughout the metro San Diego area.
Other things to note:
The Cal king bed fits two adults easily, and the fold down leather sofa (full size) will fit two small children or one adult. We also offer a twin sized air mattress, which is in the bedroom closet. If you are looking for a party atmosphere, this is not it. Please check out downtown San Diego and the surrounding areas if that is your scene. This is a family friendly space! The noise of children is welcome and is not a problem for us. We just don't want any partiers. Our guests come here to Mt. Helix for relaxation and serenity. Due to the hill location, noise carries very far in the canyons. We ask that all loud talking/laughing/socializing after sundown be done indoors with the windows closed, out of respect to our neighbors. Because this is a pure residential setting with no other vacation rentals around, all of our neighbors work regular business hours and need quiet after sundown. We hope you will enjoy and appreciate the quiet, family atmosphere of our neighborhood.
