This was our third stay at Alagadi and our second stay at villa Donatello. I love this place. The location is perfect, with restaurants within walking distance, a beautiful sea and mountain view and a villa with everything you could possibly need to ensure you have an amazing holiday.
You can do as much or as little as you like here, we did little! We hired a car (probably a necessity) mostly just to drive to the local supermarket to stock up on beer and bbq essentials, and a couple of shopping trips to Kyrenia.
To sum it up. Mornings were spent breakfasting on the patio with a gorgeous mountain view. Days were spent lazing around the pool with the occasional dip to cool off, efes in hand to quench thirst whilst admiring the sea view. Evenings consisted of pre dinner cocktails watching the sun set from the front porch, then dinner, either a short walk to one of the local restaurants or a BBQ at 'home'.
We look forward to returning.
We stayed at VDT for 3 weeks and had a fantastic, chilled holiday. The villa had everything we needed and more........a great elevated position offering a lovely cooling breeze and great views, relaxed dining on the patio and fun dips in the pool! A very well presented villa in a quiet village with nice restaurants a stroll away, with regular owner contact to ensure we were happy, was the icing on cake! Would highly recommend VDT.
We have stayed in many villas over the last 20 years and this has to be one of the best! As an ex Operations Manager for a holiday company I admit to being very difficult to please.
The help and assistance of the owner both before and after our stay was excellent.
The villa was very well equipped, showing a lot of thought and has to be cleanest we have ever visited!
On site help from the handyman/pool cleaner was also greatly appreciated.
The location was blissful and the road was much quieter than envisaged and not really a problem.
To have a beach and a restaurant (Benoz) within walking distance was an added bonus.
We would be happy to recommend this to friends and family and hope that we can revisit.
Villa Donatello was recommended to me by a friend the day after he returned from it in 2014. So effusive was he that I booked for 2015 that very evening.
The friend is still a friend!
Very well maintained and appointed, the villa offers a degree of isolation and it's position on the top corner of a small estate (around a dozen properties) is very private. The pool is well great and a welcome respite from the August heat.
As another reviewer here has mentioned, the only slight downside is that there's a road directly below and behind the property and while you can't see it (unless you stand and look over the wall) and users on it can't see you, at night there can be some traffic noise. If you sleep with windows closed and aircon on, you won't hear it, we prefer windows open so we did.
Eating out? Kathleens in the village is OK and there's a really native feel to the food, our favourite restaurant in Alagadi is Benoz and the owners are lovely people. Both are only a short walk from the villa. And if you fancy some terrific Turkish food at nonsensically low prices, drive into Kyrenia and search out Beyti Restaurant. Fantastic!
We had a terrific holiday and Donatello is one of the nicest properties I've ever stayed in.
A very pleasent house with all the things you need. Nice pool, nice view, nice people you are renting through. Just the perfect holiday, relax relax relax and no worries! And a bit of heat!
Alagadi is a small village situated about 15mins drive east of Kyrenia. Turtle beach is a 4/5 minute walk down to the sea and over to the right, and is the first ‘real’ beach on the coast east of Kyrenia, famous for the turtles which lay their eggs there during May/June. There is a snack bar on the beach for refreshments. The small single storey building with a turtle painted on it and visible from the villa on the outskirts of the village, is the local conservation group’s headquarters.
There are a couple of excellent restaurants in the village offering both local and 'European-style' food and wine at very reasonable cost. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Benoz's restaurant on the right hand side of the road as you enter the village, serving great mezze, fish and kebabs.
St. Kathleen’s restaurant is straight down in front of the villas, again serving great mezze, fish and kebas. People from all round the area come to both restaurants, especially for Sunday lunch.
Golf: 5 minutes drive from Alagadi situated on the coast at the foot of The Five Finger Mountain range near Esentepe, the prestigious Korineum Golf & Country Club is proud to be the first 18 holes golf course in North Cyprus. Carved from a natural forest of Umbrella Pines and Olive trees, amongst others, with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea on one side, and breath taking views of the famous Five Finger Mountain range on the other, this makes for a truly memorable experience you will never forget.
