About Jeffrey and Danith Watts

Jeff and Danith met in Alaska over 30 years ago and decided to share the joy and the beauty of their homes in the Tongass National Forest with other travelers. They created and established AK Fireweed House and Guest House complex and have continued to improve the standard of excellence for visitor lodging to Juneau over the last 20+ years.

Why Jeffrey and Danith Watts chose North Douglas

This unique property is comprised of three separate homes on a four-acre parcel--there are no other such properties available to visitors in the Juneau area.

The Apartment is across from the Main House where the owners reside. It is completely private in a stand-alone building. Set up for double occupancy, this large efficiency has a Queen pillow-top bed. The Apartment kitchen has a gas range, refrigerator, microwave, coffee-maker, toaster and coffee grinder for those who like a fresh roast in the morning.

The Guest House which sleeps 4 people is the larger booking (a separate booking on VRBO) but, with the Fireweed Apartment, adds accommodations for a larger group traveling to Juneau. The Main House where the owners reside to provide on-sight management and travel advice if desired completes this setting.

In developing the property, the pristine Alaskan wilderness and the magnificent views have been maintained --yet all in close proximity to the many Juneau travel adventures, shopping, and dining.

With both the Fireweed Apartment and the Guest House, larger groups traveling together can stay at the same complex but enjoy their own independent private, plush accommodations.

What makes this apartment unique

As we developed Fireweed House, we wanted to maintain the lovely view and the ambiance of the Apartment warmth, the special touches of the Guest House, and the details that would convey to guests just how much we care about the success of each and every traveler's stay in Juneau. Since both the Apartment and the Guest House are open year-round, try a winter ski holiday or a summer getaway.

Wonderful hosts, great sleep, excellent provisions

Everything was so great for my stay at the Fireweed B&B rental. The bed was comfy and there were towels and cleaning supplies, extra everything. Danith was so much fun with whom to talk. I apologize for forgetting to empty the bath trash. I was halfway to the bridge when I remembered. I had already bugged you twice, so I didn't call.

A traveler might consider bringing their own pillow. I brought mine as habit. Even though the rental has many, the bed pillows have a plastic covering, making them more firm than my usual feather pillow.

Thank you again for the wonderful stay.

I've been coming to this property for almost 20 years and EVERY visit deepens my admiration for the Watts' family. They provide a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere and a wealth of knowledge about Juneau. Jeff and Danith are hosts extraordinaire! I love staying in the Apartment with the beautiful mountain view surrounded by tall evergreens/ I never tire of this location. I would highly recommend this to any travelers coming to Juneau!

Juneau is a beautiful state capital with many contrasts--the icy landscapes of winter, the refreshing rain in our forever-green landscape, the crisp blue summer skies with billowy white clouds, the long daylight of summer (18+ hours in June), and the short daylight of winter (about 6 1/2 in December).

With the 1,500 square mile Juneau Icefield at our backdoor, we always encourage summer guests to book a flightseeing trip or a helicopter ride to get the birds-eye view of this magnificent glacial landscape. Another absolute 'must' for our visitors is the Tracy Arm Fjord cruise--a day-long adventure that your hosts will be glad to set up for you and your family--if you want to watch for whales, seals, bears, mountain goats and eagles and see huge icebergs up close, this is the day-long trip for you!

With time and this location as your home base, consider adding a day-long trip to Skagway to experience the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad with an excursion to the Summit; a day at Admiralty Island National Monument to the Brown Bear Sanctuary--guided and unguided brown bear viewing is best in July and August; a zipline adventure; enjoy the Tram ride up Mount Roberts for beautiful hiking or just for lunch; a day-long king salmon or halibut fishing charter; a walking tour of the Juneau historic district; sea kayaking; the Mendenhall Glacier--one of the few glaciers in the world to which you can drive; and days and days of incredible hiking and exploring around the Juneau area!
