Gene and Virginia Breazeale are Florida residents who were amazed by the peace and calm of Riverside Cabin. We, along with our beloved dog Beau, visit quarterly to unwind and enjoy the mountains and all they have to offer.
Virginia Breazeale purchased this cabin in 2006
This property offers peace and quiet with the ability to enjoy your pets and all the birds and wildlife. It is close to shopping and attractions while being cozy and comfortable during your stay. This is an outdoor community offering lots of walking and outside enjoyment. Therefore, picking up after your pets is required.
The views of the river and the huge open field from the screened porch captured our hearts. We knew our dog would love to run and play and we could fish in the river and relax on the porch at the end of the day. Enjoy the firepit and grill outside and the fireplace inside.
Wife taught school for many years so this converted one room school house was extra enchanting to her. Great time, peaceful, beautiful leaves, river was still running. Old world, yet most of today's conveniences. I wish we would have found this when daughter was little. Hope to return next summer.
Spent a week leaf looking from our Riverside cabin base. Cabin is ideal if you don't mind an older cabin, which we enjoy. A little chilly morning/evening in late Oct., so fireplace came in handy. Space heaters available, but not very efficient. Plus, the wife is leery of their use. Kitchen fully functional, with all you need except food. Several other houses around, but do not interfere with the atmosphere. Cabin is closest to the water, with nice trout hole below, and across the river you can fish two other spots below the bridge. Neighbors we met were most helpful and friendly. Owner booking and payment process a breeze. Loft not recommended for anyone with stair climbing problems. King bed comfortable and bedroom, as well as bathroom, has radiant heat. Nearby town of Waynesville has nice shops and restaurants. If you can't catch your trout dinner, head to Sunburst Market on Main Street for fresh fillets that were swimming that morning. Riverside was our 5th NC Mountains Fall visit, and definitely on the "would return" list.
What a wonderful blend of rustic and modern. The cabin is a prime example of an Appalachian style log house with hand hewn logs which we love, but with all of the amenities. The new king sized bed was very comfortable, and even though we didn't watch much TV, the satellite service was available. Mostly we enjoyed our time sitting on the screen porch listening to the river and watching the birds. Within 10 mins of arriving, we had humming birds at the feeder just outside of the porch! It is a great home base for day trips to the waterfalls in the mountains and the wonderful shops in Waynesville. Even though you could see the road on the other side of the river, you never heard any traffic, thanks to the rippling of the water going over the rocks in the river. It was very relaxing and rejuvenating. The people in the towns were friendly and helpful. The owner is very helpful and easy to work they have thought of everything you could need in the cabin. You can just see the pride they have for the place. This was our first vacation in the NC section of the mountains and it was so great to know that we had the perfect cabin to come back to in the afternoons. One word of recommendation - if you have to be reachable via your cell phone - make sure you bring your chargers. Because of the mountains, you phone eats batteries looking for coverage. Obviously not the cabin's fault, but something to be aware of if you have never spent time in the mountains. Since we were there to un-plug and relax it was not a problem for us. I would certainly recommend this to anyone.
My wife and I wanted a short get away and found the cabin on VRBO. We absolutely enjoyed our quiet getaway. The owners are very accommodating and we were able to book on very short notice. The cabin was very clean and it is in a beautiful location. I enjoyed stepping down to the river and fishing. We grilled out each night and enjoyed the cool evening air. The drive into Waynesville is short and we enjoyed the shops and restaurants. We will definitely be back!
My husband and I just got home from 6 days of heaven at this little piece of heaven. We have stayed in quite a few cabins in the area: Maggie Valley, Bryson, Murphy, Cherokee, but this was by far our absolute favorite. The screened in porch was where we spent the majority of our time. This is the 1st time up there that we did not go out to eat ONE time!!! We just loved sitting out by the river or on the patio watching & listening to all the nature around us. This place has character and is so rustic. Another first: My husband who watches a LOT of t.v. did not watch t.v the ENTIRE time here!!!! I was amazed. We turned the t.v. on the 1st day just to see what channels we got and then turned it off. We both stayed up later than normal every night just because we couldn't pull ourselves away from the porch and fire pit. (We made a fire almost every night there). This cabin is only about 15 minutes from the town but far enough away to feel private and secluded. Husband caught trout in river in back yard and also right down the road where he pulled off to fish one day. We did go to Cades Cove one day. That was very nice and lot's of history. If one plans on going there, however, plans for a FULL day. We did not realize how far it was or how much there was to see and we were gone 12 hours and still did not get to see all of it. Another favorite: Balsalm Mountain Preserve. Only about 30-40 minutes from cabin. This is an absolutely gorgeous place and they have horseback riding for all levels. Beginner (me) to advanced. We will absolutely stay here again if it is available on our next trip. As stated in previous reviews, the owner very professional and easy to work with.
This cabin is the perfect mix of rustic and comfortable. There are so many things to do in a close proximity of the location of Riverside. However, we could have stayed at the cabin, and the river, and the beautiful scenery immediately around us and had a wonderful, relaxing time. The professionalism of the owner is also very refreshing. Everything was just as it was explained to us. Can't wait to return.
Riverside Cabin is located in Rivermont, a 70 acre parcel, with a few cabins dotted along the East Fork of the Pigeon River. Trout fishing, hiking, rafting, shopping, dining, swimming and scenic viewing are all available, along with many other attractions.
