GREETINGS FROM POST HURRICANES IRMA AND MARIA. The beaches are still beautiful though may be as deserted as decades ago due to lack of accommodations. Virgin Gorda's residents are as vibrant as ever and happy to be alive following the worst storm in living memory. Indeed, everyone feels blessed. The most popular restaurants have reopened.

Crosswinds Villa is now a two bedroom villa. The garden level is occupied by the owners as was the case for decades until a few years ago. Somehow Crosswinds withstood the storm to an inexplicable degree. You will be most warmly welcomed.

On land littered with elephantine boulders, rustling palm trees, and glorious gardens, Crosswinds Villa is a fully furnished, three bedroom escape just a four-minute walk from the beach at Spring Bay.  With daily maid service, all you need do is relax and enjoy the views of Sir Francis Drake Channel from the 1,000 Sq. foot deck, or bathe in crystal blue-green water at the white sand beaches of Spring Bay, Spring Bay National Park, Little Trunk Bay, Valley Trunk Bay, The Baths and Devil's Bay.....all within walking or snorkeling distance.

 

The 1,000 Sq. ft. deck is Caribbean living at its best.  Partially covered, affording lots of sun and shade places, the west-facing deck is furnished with living room furniture, dining table for 6-10, a large gas grill, chaise lounges, rocking chairs and a spacious hammock.  It is all surrounded by potted plants, lush gardens, coconut palm trees, panoramic views, spectacular sunsets, and privacy

 

Built across the prevailing tradewinds, Crosswinds Villa enjoys natural air conditioning regulated by ample louvered windows on all sides of the house.  The cathedral ceilings add to an especially airy feeling. The center of the 1,600 square foot villa is an open living/kitchen/dining area, while two of the en-suite bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the house.  A 14' opening to the 1,000 square foot deck pleasantly blurs the lines between inside and outside. 

 

The two upstairs bedrooms have screened, louvered windows on 3 sides, allowing these rooms to take full advantage of the Caribbean Tradewinds, rustling palms and balmy nights.  Each has its own bathroom with oversize shower, as well as plenty of closet and shelf space.  One room has a large table and both modem and WiFi connections for those not able to leave the laptop at home. The other has a chair and ottoman for those who can!   The tiled bathrooms are difficult to photograph without knocking a wall down but both are of an appropriate size, have modern fixtures and are as clean as a whistle.

The newly renovated garden level apartment has a queen size bed in a large ensuite bedroom, an open galley kitchen, living and dining area opening to a private patio filled with potted tropical plants, market umbrellas, and privacy. Like the upstairs main living area, this private apartment features louvered windows throughout, cross breezes, cathedral ceilings, ceiling fans and lush tropical manicured gardens outside every window. This area offers privacy and comfort for the multi-generational family, or simply three couples traveling together.

Lifelong New Englanders and world travelers, we split our time between the coast of Rhode Island and Virgin Gorda, as well as hoping to discover one new destination each year. We chose to spend five months a year in Virgin Gorda after experiencing the perfectly warm water, clean uncrowded beaches, great snorkeling, personal safety and a welcoming local population. Virgin Gorda is constantly improving both through government guidance and visitors appreciation of its unique benefits. Virgin Gorda has ended our search for the best place to spend every winter.

Why Chip McLaughlin chose Virgin Gorda

We purchased our home in Virgin Gorda after vacationing here for nine consecutive years. Crosswinds was originally a 1600 foot house with a rental of 1,000 sq ft on the second floor with a small wooden deck. We added a 1,000 square foot deck to the second floor with equal amounts of covered and sun-filled spaces. The experience of renting led us to create the vacation rental we always wanted, from an over equipped kitchen to upscale furnishings, an outdoor living and dining room, lots of potted tropical plants, a great gas grill and a large Brookstone hammock for reading! We wanted a place we would live in full time, a place that is truly a home and not a place that felt like a business. Add to this, Crosswinds is in a private enclave of 11 homes, the third house back from Spring Bay, adjacent to two national parks, within walking distance of six beaches including The Baths and Devil's Bay. The other beaches are very quiet and nearly private. The beaches are clean, the sand is white and granular, the water is crystal clear and always refreshing and warm. Given the tiny population and stable, well-run government your personal safety is unmatched in the Caribbean. So stroll about, to beaches, beach bars, local and tourist restaurants. Live unguarded and have fun!

What makes this villa unique

Everything in Virgin Gorda revolves around the water and beaches. Leave the golf clubs home and forget about gambling. Plan on snorkeling and relaxing by the water all day. There are ample opportunities to explore other islands for the day or half the day on a variety of sail and motor boats. Rent a car and explore a large number of beaches, snorkeling spots, hiking and natural beauty. Take advantage of the high-end spas and resorts though you will then be glad you have Spring Bay and her sunsets to return to.

A gorgeous home in Paradise!

We have been renting homes on Virgin Gorda for 25 years and this house is the best we have ever stayed in. It has everything you could possibly want or need - a beautifully stocked kitchen, comfortable indoor space, and a spectacular outdoor living room with a million dollar view over the Sir Francis Drake channel. The furnishings, linens, and kitchen equipment are all top notch and extremely tasteful.The housekeeping is meticulous and the extensive grounds and gardens are stunning. If you are a gardener the groundskeeper, who has cared for the property for 30 years, will graciously give you a personal tour. The owners live nearby and could not be nicer or more helpful - they accept questions at any time during the day. The most beautiful beach in the world - Spring Bay, is a 3 minute walk. Hurricane Irma dealt Virgin Gorda a bad hand last September but for us finding Crosswinds is the silver lining!

Awesome Villa, Amazing Hosts!

We were most fortunate to connect with Chip and Keith and their spectacular property Crosswinds after our "usual" rental on Spring Bay was damaged by Irma. If you are a long-time Virgin Gorda visitor or if you are checking it out for the first time, do not hesitate to consider staying in this incredible home. The outdoor living space is the heart of this home, and the panoramic view of the Sir Francis Drake channel is a wondrous daily sight. And oh, the sunsets!

When you manage to get out of the deck hammock and go inside, you find a well-appointed and stocked kitchen, and a most comfortable indoor space including private bedrooms with tasteful furnishings and linens, and modern baths. Housekeeping is flawless. A highlight during our stay was a most gracious tour of the grounds and gardens by the longtime groundskeeper, who shared his knowledge and love of the natural world with us.

The walk from the house to beautiful Spring Bay is a 3-minute floral feast for the senses, and there is easy access to several adjacent beaches, all stunning.

Warm thanks to owners Keith and Chip, who were most attentive to our needs, and who reflect the friendliness of the people of this Island Paradise, Virgin Gorda.

Everything We Could Ask For and MORE!!!

We've vacationed annually on Virgin Gorda for 30 years - and even though we'd not stayed at Crosswinds, we'd had the pleasure of meeting Chip and Keith and visiting their beautiful home. Sadly, Hurricane Irma damaged many homes on the island; including our "usual" villa. With that unavailable to us, Chip and Keith came to our rescue and saved our vacation plans. Their house is EXACTLY as described in the other reviews; it's clean, well-maintained, has an incredible, lovely deck and beautiful grounds. Chip and Keith are excellent hosts and their dedicated staff spoiled us with their many kindnesses during our stay.

The house is tastefully furnished, comfortable in every way; with a kitchen more than well-equipped. Only a few restaurants are open on the island right now, so we put the kitchen to great use and enjoyed meals from a deck that offers panoramic views of Spring Bay/Sir Francis Drake Channel and the islands beyond. We LIVED on the deck! Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all enjoyed there. Crosswinds bedrooms are well-furnished and comfortable - as are both bathrooms. Chip and Keith are gracious hosts who made sure our stay was one we'll remember gratefully and fondly! If you are coming to Virgin Gorda for the first time, or the 30th, we would highly recommend Crosswinds - it was everything we could ask for and more.

COULD NOT ASK FOR A MORE RELAXING VACATION!

We had a wonderful 10 days at Crosswinds in Spring Bay Virgin Gorda BVI. The home was the best equipped I have stayed in. It was like walking into a high end resort, and we just kept walking right out of the house to see that covered deck with the water, islands and sunset views. We wanted for nothing. The house cleaners and grounds keeper are wonderful and helpful, all was pristine. The owners were prompt with any questions we had. The sandy beach nestled among the boulders is a 3 minute walk! If you want it all....this is it! We cooked in most nights( our choice, local restaurants are available) and local groceries are close by. I highly recommend!

Great house; fantastic deck; gorgeous view.

Cross Winds was a great place to stay. Two big bedrooms with lots of closet space and a modern bathroom in each. House was clean and well maintained. Owners are nearby and responsive to needs. The cherry on the house is the great deck - large (~1000 Sq. ft.) with a great view and lots of places to laydown, sit and relax. Kitchen was well equipped and there was both an indoor and outdoor dinner area. Stay here! You'll be glad you did.

Awesome house, awesome views, awesome hosts.

Our first stay at Crosswinds. Hurricane Irma brought us here, another of her odd twists of fate. It is a beautiful house, aptly named for the lovely breezes. It really is an awesome house, with very nice decorations throughout, and a well-equipped kitchen suitable for gourmet meals, along with a multi-acre estate with diverse plantings, and beautiful views of the Sir Francis Drake passage and sunsets. It is but a short walk to the wondrous beaches. The owners Chip and Keith are very attentive and helpful. We hope to come again.

Our enclave of 11 homes is on Spring Bay, situated between Spring Bay National Park and The Baths National Park. Four beaches are within walking distance, the furthest 12 minutes. The Baths and Devil's Bay are within easy snorkeling distance. This luxury of easily accessible beaches allows everyone in your party to come and go to the beach as they are ready rather than being dependent on one car. There is also a great wealth of beaches and reefs around the island for exploring, too many to see in a week, or maybe even two! You can fill a week's busy schedule all within a three mile radius from daily snorkeling excursions to food shopping to elegant tropical restaurants.
