# 13 on Forbes' list of the 'hippest' neighborhoods in the US, North Park is a vibrant, diverse urban village with a life of its own. Conveniently located near terrific restaurants, cafes and nightlife as well as Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, downtown San Diego and Coronado Island, this location can't be beat.
Our 1926 Spanish villa -- 'Villa Barajas' -- combines historic character with modern features. We restored this place for everyone to enjoy the kind of travel experience we most appreciate ourselves -- authentic local living, in luxury style, with the comforts of home! Serene, comfortable, private and yet so accessible to what's happening in the village!
The Baker's Suite (#3321) is a cozy, compact 1 bed, 1 bath (just under 400 SF), ideal for two, but can accommodate up to 2 adults with 1-2 children using the comfortable full size sofa bed (auto inflating air mattress). Overall, the feel is organic, clean lined, modern and very warm and inviting -- The French baker's table used for dining was made from reclaimed 19th century scaffolding.
Gorgeous original hardwood floors, exposed brick, fine cabinetry and furnishings, deep Euro tub/shower, central heat/AC, washer and dryer in suite, all new fully equipped kitchen and bath.
We also provide amenities to get your trip started the right way -- K-cup and French press coffee makers, beach towels, blow dryer, iron, luggage rack, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, hand soaps, laundry detergent, paper products. The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, dishware, utensils, spices...pretty much whatever you'll need. There is free WIFI and smart TV -- Stream Netflix and Pandora while you relax or enjoy a light meal in the suite.
We have a 50mb WIFI network in the unit -- nice and fast -- and 4 other networks in the building, all of which are accessible to all guests, so if your WIFI happens to go down, just tie into any one of the other 4!
Spacious grounds with gas grill, ping pong table and delightful seating areas. There is parking for your car on the property. Parking on surrounding streets also is free and typically available.
Walk just two blocks to terrific restaurants -- Italian, French, Mexican, Asian, Vegetarian, Sushi, Pizza -- as well as cafes, breakfast places, home-baked goods, micro brewery, wine bar. Enjoy "La Perla" gourmet tacos with a short or tall brew under the stars. The ramen/noodle house "Underbelly" hops -- there's communal outdoor seating around firepits that make this a lively social spot day or night. Our guests also love "The Smoking Goat" french bistro. A few blocks more and there's a weekly farmer's market (every Thursday), more wine bars, artisan pizza, Asian fusion, American/Californian, homemade ice cream...too many places to list.
With all this eating and imbibing, you may want to get your fitness fix as well, or tune up your mind/body connection, and North Park has yoga, pilates, dance, boxing, various full service gyms...there's even a pole dancing school, for the daring amongst us.
Then again, you're here to enjoy the outdoors, right?
So walk a few blocks to Balboa Park! -- community pool, tennis, golf, hiking and running trains, bike track, bocce court, picnic area, children's play area. On the farther side of Balboa Park, still walking distance (20-30 minutes) or a short ride, are San Diego Zoo, museums and Old Globe Theater.
Drive 5-9 minutes to downtown destinations or take the bus one block away (about 20 minutes with stops) -- The GasLamp Quarter, Little Italy, Seaport Village, Convention Center, Petco Park. Drive 10 min over the bridge to Coronado Island's beautiful beaches and the famous Hotel Del Coronado -- This is the best spot for a beach day, with a huge stretch of beautiful fine sand beach, a promenade for strolling or peddling along the water, beach chair and cabana cover rentals, peddle car rentals, oceanfront restaurants, lounges, cafes and shops. Or, drive 10-15 minutes to other central San Diego beaches (Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach) and other major attractions, including Seaworld.
This partner has demonstrated and is committed to fast response times, the best rates, and a great guest experience.
We love homes, vacations, people, and customer service. Making people happy in beautiful environments is our 'thing.'
Beth Galdieri purchased this villa in 2012
When we saw this building, with its old world charm and sophistication - we knew that we had to own it, renovate it - and then provide fabulous, beautiful, comfortable and 'cool' accommodations where people could relax, enjoy the Park, the Zoo, the many restaurants- all within the context of a local San
This building is thought to have been owned a century ago by a church nearby and resided in by church members or out of town visitors. It is a beautiful building and stands out as regal yet simple. This combination of simplicity and beauty attracted us.
Clean and well kept property. A bit small for 4 people - would recommend only 2 stay here. Love seat/sleeper sofa needs to be replaced.
The owners were very helpful and the place was just what we needed for our weekend getaway.
The communication from the owner was good, and responsive. The property has very nice appointments, the bathroom is beautiful, nice wood floors and the kitchen top-notch. The place is actually a house that has been divided into 5 units. This would have been explained a lot of things, but I had to drive by and email with them to figure it out. They promote that there is parking typically on the street, which, after 6pm, is not at all true. They also promote that there is parking in the back, which there is plenty of, but they also told me that the spots weren't assigned, so I stressed that I wouldn't be able to get a spot. I could, but was afraid to drive anywhere at night in case all the other spots ended up being taken. I would have given an extra star if they just told me that. Nice restaurants are in walking distance. The neighborhood is quiet, but also very, very dark. The unit has AC, but the AC is only for the bedroom. For some reason, there are two remote controls. One seemed to turn on the AC, and the other turned it off. The bed was very comfortable for sleeping, but is a "low-rider". Sitting on it wasn't an option. The sofa was not comfortable. It's a small sofa, which it has to be for the small living room, but I guess to have more capacity, is a fold out. However, it's a blow-up kind. In addition to a not comfy sofa, there is no ottoman. Just a very small coffee table. The only place to sit, really, are the two metal chairs at the table, which I used. There are a LOT of rules. Maybe the owners want to keep it nice. Maybe they got burned by a bad guest. The rules are well-promoted, but still only led me to want to avoid messing anything up. No shoes in the house. Turn the AC off when you're not there. Be quiet. Do your dishes. Leave the key in the lock-box whenever you're not there. (I really didn't understand why the key needed to be left, but it was problematic in that the lock-box was so cheap that it took 2-3 tries each time.) Back on the good parts, the bathroom supplies and towels were great, as were the bed linens and pillows. On the down side, the iron, which was very nice, was matched with a miniature table-top ironing board, which is not good when you're a businessman trying to iron his long-sleeve shirts prior to the day's meetings. The wifi worked great. There were two TV's, but I didn't turn either on. In my view, it would be good for couples on vacation, and used mostly to sleep.
We really enjoyed our stay of five nights. We did not have a car, but it was a short walk to University Ave. where there were numerous restaurants and bars. We would refer you to Figaro's for a great dessert spot. Good communication from owners and property manager.
The pictures are an accurate representation of this rental. Although small the unit is tastefully finished. We found the location to be somewhat far from the places we like to visit most while in San Diego but we had our car so we made do. The one disappointment would be that when we tried to inflate the sofa bed a previous client that had used the bed did not follow the instructions about storing the control cable etc and had punctured the mattress. Because it was only my wife and myself we decided that we would make do with the queen size bed but when we informed the rental manager about the mattress his only response was "I'll let the owners know". No "thanks for letting me know" . A rather rude response when you consider that we could have just left it and let the next client deal with it. Ah well perhaps he was just having a bad day.
I've stayed with Beth and Gail before and this property is also well kept, modern, and extremely clean! Close to all of the action, but far enough away to have a very quiet stay...Will definitely stay again!
Located minutes to The World Famous San Diego Zoo, Downtown San Diego and the Convention Center, Balboa Park with its Hiking Trails, Olympic Size Pool, Tennis Courts, Disc Golf Course, Archery Course, 3 Dog Parks, and a 10 minute drive to San Diego Beaches. You get the best of Urban San Diego
Cleaning Fee | £71.02 |
Damage Insurance | £41.9 |
Damage Deposit | £177.55 |
Rates in table are representative and may vary based on number of occupants and specific dates requested. Rates and minimum stays during holidays and special events, such as Comic-Con, are typically higher. San Diego requires that occupancy taxes be charged for stays of fewer than 31 nights (10.5%). Cleaning fee, insurance and refundable security deposit are additional. Rates are subject to change until reservation has been confirmed.
For stays of one month or more, we charge for bi-weekly cleaning, in addition to a final cleaning fee. This will not be auto-generated via a reservation request -- We will need to revise the quote to include the biweekly cleanings.
Many people ask about this: We include a third party damage protection policy in our quotes, which is a nonrefundable fee. The policy protects you and us. With the policy in place, we're able to charge a very low cash security deposit that covers minor damages (such as stained towels or linens or broken plates). The insurance policy covers more significant accidental damages (for example, to furniture, floors, appliances, counters, walls, mirrors, plumbing fixtures, lamps, window glass and coverings, other elements). The insurance also enables you to recover your security deposit in the event of a qualified incident. VRBO offers you the option of either purchasing the insurance policy we've quoted or paying an additional refundable security deposit equal to the coverage/face value of the policy. For example, suppose we are charging $250 refundable security and you opt NOT to purchase the insurance (which in this example has a coverage value of $1,500) -- Your new combined REFUNDABLE security deposit would be $250 + $1500 = $1,750. Please note the price of the insurance policy and coverage amount are subject to change.
