Why The Owner chose Asheville Area

This home has given our family a perfect place to raise our kids and enjoy the peacful mountain setting. We have loved being so close to nature and all that Dupont and Pisgah National Forest offers with it's endless hiking/biking trails and waterfalls.

After moving we have recently remodeled our special find and would like for other families to enjoy the same relaxing retreat that we've had.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a good time. Really liked your decorating. We hope to return some day.

OK we appreciated the ability to get the house last minute and for only two days - thank you. I have rented through VRBO many times and would consider this house expensive for what you get, that maybe due to the last minute short term nature of our visit. If you want a hot tub, it may be worth the extra expense, but we did not use it. After reading other discussions about lack of dryer, I searched it out - there IS a dryer - in the garage.

The house is a small three bedroom with one bath, small kitchen and a game room. Small screen CRT TV been a while since I have seen those. Clean house but tired looking, could use a lighter paint job and better kitchen towels, something that actually drys dishes - not those synthetic things.

There is a nail that sticks up in the middle of the hallway - be extra careful if you take your shoes off. The tile in the bathroom sticks up 1/2- 3/4 inch with no molding - watch your toes.

Pleasant stay for us two old folks for two days, any longer we may have gone to a hotel.

Owner's Response: We hope for people to come to our place and enjoy their stay there. It was our home for many years, and we loved it there (including the colors, which is as pictured on the web site). When we moved from there, we wanted people to come and enjoy what we had enjoyed for so many years. I'm not sure where the nail in the floor that John was talking about. After reading the review, I searched but was not able to find it. Most of the people that stay at our place love it. There are numerous reviews that state that.

Great getaway mountain home!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed this place! We were gone most of the time hiking and then to Biltmore but the nights were spent in the hot tub on the deck and we slept very well in the king size bed! We didn't have the kids with us this weekend but there is certainly enough space to bring them next time!

This place is beautiful and very close to Pisgah and Dupont Parks. The hot tub was soooooo nice after a long day of hiking.

Comfortable but not as expected

  • 2 of 5

We were surprised to find that, although the agreement says that there is adequate cell phone service, we had no cell phone service at all. The description of the property stated there was a washer and dryer but there was no dryer. There were minor repairs that needed to be made, i.e. replacing missing/non-functioning lightbulbs including the hallway light and repairing the stoppers in the bathroom sinks. Renters are asked to put dishes in the dishwasher and turn it on before leaving. We had difficulty in starting the dishwasher and had to unload it and wash, dry and put the dishes away just as we were getting ready to leave. There were no directions.  Having set aside one afternoon during our entire vacation to just relax, enjoy the view and read on the deck, it was rather jarring to hear a loud power tools and smell gas for about 45 minutes when the landscaper came to trim hedges and clear leaves, forcing us to retreat inside. Had we known he was coming that afternoon, we would have changed our schedule. There was a broken window (the outside pane of a double pane window) with shards of glass on the outside windowsill.

When we notified the owners of several of our concerns, they said they were aware of the broken window. They volunteered to refund our money and suggested we go to the Hampton Inn several miles away. Our purpose had been to enjoy a quiet vacation home but we checked with Hampton Inn and there were no rooms available for that period of time. After we let the owners know about the hotel, they never replied.

On the positive side, the home is furnished nicely and there is beautiful landscaping. It is conveniently located for hiking and sightseeing at the waterfalls and is about 45 minutes from Asheville. A grocery store, Walmart, Belks and several restaurants are not far away. Most of the problems we encountered could have been avoided with some routine maintenance and communication.

Owner's Response: In response to this review, we would ask that you look at all of the other reviews that we have on our rental. All of which are positive. Cell service- There is adequate cell service. This owner's provider was T-Mobile which does not get good service in the whole area, not just the rental. Washer/Dryer- There is, and was a washer and dryer at our rental. Stoppers in bathroom sink- Not sure what renters were talking about. Dishwasher- Works fine. Broken window- Window had been cracked during another renters stay, and because of the quick turn over, we didn't have time to replace it before these renters came in. It is a double paned window, and wasn't broken through both panes. Communication- We answered every question that renters asked. When these renters began complaining, we right away offered to let them go elsewhere, and we would give a full refund. They declined. After they had stayed for the duration, that was when they wanted money back. In the length of time that we have had our rental, there has never been any one that has complained so much. If we could rate our renters, we would give them 1 star, and would not be willing to rent to them again.
