Lovely Lake View, Quiet, Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Set just outside Alpine overlooking Lake Luna, this cabin has a million dollar view. We watched a large herd of elk grazing and playing in the lake every day of our week-long visit. The cabin was quiet and had plenty of open space around it. Our 4 year old enjoyed the bug net and trying to catch bugs in the meadow. The pine trees in the forest behind the cabin add to the ambiance and peaceful setting. The cabin itself is rustic but clean and met our needs just fine. We felt the price was good value compared to other places we have stayed in the past in the White Mountains (in the Greer area). A few updates to the cabin interior would bring it up to 5 stars for us. We would certainly consider staying here again on a future trip.

One note: we visited to during a heat wave when the temps were close to 90 during the day. The cabin does not have air conditioning, as I would expect most do not in the White Mountains. Temps cooled off at night and the cabin did as well with all the windows open, but we did buy a box fan in Springerville to help circulate air in the bedroom as there were no ceiling fans in the bedrooms.

Luna Lake Lodge

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. Cabin was very clean, had everything needed for cooking meals, easily accessible, tremendous views, and quiet. As a youth,I spent many summer vacations in Alpine and our stay harkened back to those days. Veronica, property manager, was great and very easy to work with. I would recommend her to anyone without hesitation. Personally,we will definitely work with her on our next trip.

Wonderful Cabin @ a great rate

  • 4 of 5

6 of us recently spent 3 nights in the Luna Lake Lodge. The interior & exterior space, view, area, charm and Veronica are just a few reasons on why we will be back. Don't let the picky reviews deter you from staying here, unless you expect a Hilton then you should stay at a Hilton. Thank you Veronica for being so accommodating, you helped make this place amazing.

Read the fine print

  • 2 of 5

We have rented many times through vrbo and have been extremely pleased. We knew that the cottage would be rustic, but when we read that there were two heaters and a wood burning stove, we did not dream that there would not be another source of heat. We realize that we were there early in the season, but the wood burner did not have a blower and the heaters were both 500 watts (less heat than a hairdryer), the wall heater in the bathroom did not work, and the heater did little to warm up the room. We sat wrapped in blankets for the first two days, then the weather warmed up. The washer dryer did not work, the king sized bed was way too hard for us, so we resorted to the full bed with a little softer mattress. The first two days we only had two small pieces of wood, but no kindling to start the fire. On day three we received lots of wood and kindling. My husband had to find the fuse box when we first arrived to get some of the lights working. We loved the lake view, and the kitchen was very well stocked. It would be an inexpensive fix to buy a couple of 1000-1250 watt heaters and wash the upper windows in the front of the house.

Great Views-Old Cabin

  • 2 of 5

First, let me say I have been coming to Alpine on vacations since I was a baby and absolutely love this small mountain town. The location and views at Luna Lake Lodge are spectacular and by far the best thing its got going for it and for that it receives 5 stars. The cabin itself gets 2 stars. The pictures are very accurate. The cabin is outdated. With a little money this place would be awesome.

1. Loose toilet.(when you sit down it moves, sit slowly)

2. Hot water heater. (only enough hot water for one shower with back to back showers, wait 10 minutes between showers)

3. Broken Washer/Dryer. ( sign posted on it saying broken, property manager willing to do the laundry, owner needs to just fix it or buy a new one. It was working the previous year.)

4. Loose Outside Deck railing. (sign posted not to lean on railing, fix the wood railing, safety hazard.)

5. Loose sagging outside walkway deck boards. (Everyone tripped at least twice, install a couple of new deck boards, safety hazzard)

6. The cabin uses well water that is not drinkable.(Purified water in the fridge, just make the well water potable, not that hard)

7. Inside cabin creeky, loose, protruding up floor boards.(install a couple of new floor boards, easy fix)

8. The roof leaks when it rains. ( put 4 pots out to catch the rain water, fix roof)

Once all these simple issues are fixed the entire cabin would get 4 stars. To get 5 stars it would need updating.

Overall very cozy and comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. I hope this helps future guests.

Wonderful place to just relax and soak in silence

  • 5 of 5

Don't let the rustic weathered siding deceive you-- this place is extremely clean and well-furnished inside. It was so quiet with barely a single car seen on the road nearby. Even the neighbor's cows were quiet as they lumbered down the hill to forage near the road. The night sky here is amazing. Also, the two restaurants up the road have quite good hamburgers! Drive southward a few miles to the blue-range wilderness for some fun adventures
