About Simmie Moore

We are the proud recipients of the 2013 Historic Aiken Foundation 'President's Award.' We have won local, state, and national awards for historic preservation. We have been awarded the status of "Super Host" by a national travel site. In 2011 we purchased the eight cottages that comprise Kershaw Square in Aiken's Historic District, from the Staubes family, who had owned them for over 125 years. We began painstakingly restoring them, working closely with the Aiken Historic Design Review Board. We preserved the unique character of each cottage while, at the same time, updating the mechanical systems to ensure the maximum comfort of our guests. As part of our commitment to sustainable energy and green technology, we have utilized energy efficient systems, wherever possible. Historic Restoration is our passion!

Fabulous Property near Downtown Aiken

  • 5 of 5

Great location; very nicely appointed; close to all downtown attractions & restaurants. A short walking distance to horse farms & polo fields - we took advantage of both during our morning walks. Also in the midst of the historic district with its lovely homes & gardens.

The cottage was fully equipped...the kitchen, the baths, the outside patio, with living space arranged & utilized perfectly. All you need to bring is a change of clothes.

The owners were in the neighborhood and were very helpful & courteous. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this property.

Cozy and classy!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was very comfortable with everything we needed including top rate furniture and appliances. Plus, there are ample dishes, etc for cooking. The internet is fast and reliable; no problems. We very much enjoyed the special warmth and character of the historic style and decor. We highly recommend staying here.

The area is very nice with lots of beautiful quiet streets for walking in the neighborhood. It's only a few blocks from Laurens Street where you will find quaint shops and great food. A couple of our favorites are the Aiken Brewing Co for lunch and dinner, and New Moon Cafe for great breakfast and coffee. Be sure and visit Re-fresh where you will find some of the funnest and most unique gifts, jewelry, and decor.

These cottages should be at the top of your list of choices!

Great company from whom to rent

  • 5 of 5

While I did not stay at the cottage in the photo (3 of us stayed at Wedgewood Cottage), I would highly recommend renting any of the listings from this rental company. The people with whom I interfaced were great. They were friendly, professional and very helpful. The remodels they have done on all of them are lovely - we looked at many of them while visiting Aiken. The furniture pieces are all period, making the interior very welcoming and warm. They provided all of the bedding, towels, and items for the kitchen like coffee pots, coffee, paper towels etc. You just have to bring your clothes and food. I highly recommend renting from them.

Owner's Response: Hi Jeannie, thank you for the kind review. It was wonderful to meet you! We are happy that the larger Wedgwood Cottage was available to accommodate the size of your party, and you were able to tour our other restorations as well. We look forward to seeing you on your next visit to Aiken! -Warm Regards, Simmie & Bill
