Bontecou Farm overlooking the Wallkill River

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

Surrounded on three sides by the Walkill River, this 88- acre farm serves as an immediate escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Up to six guests are invited to stay in the mid-century modern addition, now fully renovated with a contemporary farmhouse design. Updated amenities, exposed stone walls, and carefully handpicked furniture and décor—both new and antique—bring life back into the old stone and timber house originally built in the early 1700s.

Prepare and enjoy meals at the vintage farmhouse table in the gorgeous, state-of-the-art kitchen. Unwind by the wood-burning fireplace, surrounded by plenty of cozy seating for friends and family. Experience spectacular views of the Wallkill River and farm fields from every single room. This three-century-old house built on a bluff boasts a one-of-a-kind property of lush gardens, perfectly manicured lawns and a sprawling 40-acre field. Guests can even stroll through the farm’s orchard with an array of apple, peach, nectarine, apricot, plum and cherry trees.

The Farmhouse at Bontecou is centrally located and in close proximity to numerous restaurants, local farms, orchards, breweries, antique shops, and outdoor activities. Walk, run, bike, or cross-country ski on site or on the many rail trails in the area. Only ten minutes away from downtown New Paltz and Mohonk Mountain. Drive five minutes to Rosendale, High Falls and Stone Ridge and 15-20 minutes to Kingston, Rhinebeck and Gardiner. The Adirondack Trailways bus stop in Rosendale is just five minutes away. This stunning home is perfect for vacations, extended stays, events, reunions, retreats, and weekend get-aways in each and every season. The Farmhouse at Bontecou is a special place specifically designed centuries ago to reflect the natural beauty that surrounds it.

A gem of a rental

  • 5 of 5

We really loved this place, it’s the ideal rental, exactly what a getaway should be. The owners have put a lot of effort into getting everything just right. The kitchen is amazing, a standout; of course there are great restaurants to discover in the Hudson Valley, but I think we went out once, choosing to use the kitchen instead, and then, the best part, dinner at the table along the bank of windows in the living room with a view of the river and the fields, the mountains beyond and some great sunsets as well.

While the main road is barely half a mile away and what you need can be reached in minutes, the property and grounds do offer a real and rare sense of off-the-beaten-path seclusion. The river is right outside the door, the riverfront and grounds the perfect place to stretch your legs. There’s even an amazing small ornamental greenhouse behind the rental with a grape arbor and a small apple orchard.

The coolish spring weather was the perfect excuse to make use of the fireplace, watch a movie from the sofa with the fire blazing, it really is the perfect rental and makes us all the more curious to come back in summer or fall to see the property at that time of year.

A rare find, great owners, and a really delightful, perfectly renovated place, a great house in itself that is beautifully sited on the Wallkill River. The perfect rental for a secluded getaway or to use as an ideal home base/jumping-off spot for exploring the area. It offers a sense of true seclusion, while everything you need is just a quick trip away.

Beautiful and cozy country house!

A meticulously decorated country house located in a beautiful open farm with a cheerful running brook just at the back of the house. Open floor plan and make it truly feel like home when away!

Fantastic country house. Close to beautiful new Paltz and stoneridge

Just renovated (think Restoration Hardware meets bucolique countryside), ultra clean, very comfortable, pleasant 2 br house surrounded by gorgeous countryside, river and cute barns and greenhouse. Our group of friends felt at home immediately. Very relaxing weekend with the ability to hop out to nearby towns for dinner. Our host Linda had prepared the fireplace such that we were cozying up near burning logs within minutes of arriving at the house.

We spent a lovely few days at Linda’s beautifully renovated farmhouse. We love New Paltz and the house sits right above a breathtaking view of the Walkill River. Three adults had more than enough room to spread out, relax and even do work. It was -10 degrees outside, but warm and cozy inside. Linda was a wonderful host, showing us around the grounds and available throughout our stay to answer questions and give us tips. It snowed heavily during our stay, which made for a magical, post-Christmas scene. The plows came and we were able to get around by car quite easily and safely. The house is more spacious than the pictures would have you think. It is beautifully decorated, with attention to detail — it is also very clean. The beds are very comfortable with high quality linens. We love to cook, and the kitchen had everything we needed to make and enjoy wonderful meals together. The house is a short drive from the NYS Thruway exit, yet very private and peaceful. We look forward to returning. Thank you, Linda.

Excellent stay at a lovely property and home

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bontecou Farm and would love to return in the future. The home has all the comforts of a private inn. For our family of four, it provided a true respite. I can't say enough about the design and decor of the space. Its bathrooms, kitchen and bedrooms are beautiful. And the family room space has perfect nooks for getting cozy and relaxing with a book or family. The owner Linda was very responsive from the start. Both her husband and her were there when we arrived to check in. We celebrated an extraordinary Christmas at this home, and she even decorated the space before our arrival with stylish holiday decor and fresh holly from the property. My children (9 and 10) were able to explore the outdoors on their own as well, which was a big plus since we live in an urban environment. We were all sad to leave the peace and beauty of this property - it had so many lovable details. It was a true treat and we hope to return in the future.
