The heading for this review was suggested by our 12 year old daughter. Given that our 13 year old daughter said can we come for an extra week next time, I think that says it all! The accommodation far exceeded our expectations. Tasteful, comfortable and spotless. We all enjoyed the pool and eating our meals outside in the beautiful garden. Having the owners nearby was a real bonus as they made great suggestions for trips out - a night market where we selected and cooked our own food on a shared bbq, and recommending and even booking a table for us at a fantastic local restaurant (great for vegetarians and meat eaters alike). We enjoyed visiting St Yrieix and going to the local swimming lake. Can’t wait to book again although I’ve recommended it to so many people Im worried we won’t get in! We went to Disneyland afterwards and the girls preferred being at the gite.

Thank you, David and Jenny, for looking after us so well.

Beautiful cottage, large gardens & all amenities

  • 5 of 5

After spending weeks trawling the internet for that all elusive French holiday home (accommodation in good order, in the perfect location, with all facilities laid on and dog-friendly as well) this was the only one that 'ticked all our boxes'.

The graceful owners, Jenny & David were on-hand to provide unobtrusive help during our stay and the cottage was fully equipped with absolutely everything thoroughly thought about in order to provide for the most relaxing holiday.

The accommodation itself was beautifully presented and clean. There was also an abundance of tourist literature, with the owners having compiled a wealth of information on sightseeing (broken down into different sections), including maps, as well as restaurants in the surrounding area, documented in four ring binders - it was without doubt the finest presentation we have ever seen in a holiday home.

The large pool was perfect for our family of four and although it was shared, we always had the pool to ourselves. We have fond memories of walking in the immense rear gardens, passing under vines of succulent grapes, sunbathing and relaxing whilst watching the bees floating between the flowers and the butterflies swirling around us.

We dined in these same immaculately-kept gardens, spoilt for choice where to eat due to the fact that Jenny & David have thoughtfully placed several tables in different parts of the rear grounds.

For peace of mind, the wireless internet provided kept us in touch with home and business whilst away.

The location of the cottage in the tiny hamlet of Chabrenas certainly makes for easy day trips into the Limousin (Chabrenas is situated on the Haute-Vienne/Correze border) as well as into the Dordogne and Lot regions of France. There are numerous supermarkets, shops and restaurants just a short drive away.

So, if you are looking for a clean, well-presented accommodation in the Limousin, with friendly and helpful hosts, then look no further than ‘La Bergerie'. Out of 70 accommodations that we had bookmarked on Homeaway, we eliminated 69 of them and chose this one – and we were not disappointed! We will not forget our stay in this beautiful and immaculate accommodation. Jenny & David, thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality during our stay!

A beautiful location at the end of a lane makes it a haven of peace and tranquility. The gite is extremely well equipped and very clean. The beds are really comfortable - in fact I wanted to take mine home with me because I slept so well!! Outside there is a lovely garden and you can share the owner's swimming pool - the real advantage of the property. To have the sole use of such a beautiful pool is a real plus and really made the week here special. A big thank you to two very lovely owners - David and Jenny - for sharing their property and being so helpful.

This was our second stay with David and Jenny at Chabrenas. The first time we visited David was in the process of building La Bergerie and it was such a labour of love that we vowed to return one day and spend time there.

We were not disappointed. This gite has everything you could possibly wish for. Luxury accommodation in a truly tranquil setting with access to a fabulous pool that is a real bonus.

The Porters are fabulous hosts, always available whenever you need them but never intrusive.Their suggestions for places to visit and especially places to eat really enhanced our stay.

We fell in love with Brive - a fantastic historical town of great character. We even managed to take in a pre-season friendly match involving the towns rugby team which was most enjoyable.

Lazy days spent soaking up the sun, catching up on some reading, eating and drinking, laughing and joking. Many happy memories.

We would highly recommend this property to anyone.

Highly recommend .... just brilliant !!!

We stayed for 1week as a family of four with two girls aged 11 & 15 years. We all had a great time relaxing in the beautiful gardens and exploring the local French countryside and local towns. Evenings where spent in the beautiful gardens having a bbq, playing badminton and table tennis. (the weather was very kind to us)

I have stayed in many holidays lets and this is one of the best. It's ideal for a romantic get away or family break. Our children loved their stay and enjoyed the freedom away from the inter net/social media ! ( although wifi is available).

Jenny and David could not be more welcoming and ensured that our every need was met. It's a must if you fancy a visit to rural Farance we would definitely visit again.

Stunningly beautiful, countryside, Gite.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for one month in this beautiful Gite which is maintained to top hotel standards. David and Jenny are meticulous about standards of cleanliness, and also kind, generous and welcoming hosts.

We loved the private garden and the wood burner in the evenings. We were there in Autumn, as the colours changed and we saw cranes flying south for the winter, deer, squirrels and buzzards.

It is a beautiful property and our two dogs were welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed the woods, countryside and lakes.

The nearby restaurant of La Tilleul du Sully was recommended to us by David and is the best restaurant we have ever visited. Stunning.

We now miss the sound of sweet chestnuts falling in the woods which surround the gite.

Chabrenas is situated in the beautiful countryside of the Haute Vienne Department of the Limousin. It is ideally situated close to the main A20 Autoroute (10 mins) if you wish to travel quickly to the attractions of the area. However, if you prefer you can take gentle drives down country lanes and wend your way to visit chateaux, such as Hauteforte or nearest Coussac Bonneval, still inhabited by the Marquis de Bonneval. Otherwise follow the route of 'Richard the Lionheart', stop and sample food and wine in some of the prettiest villages in France such as Segur le Chateau, Montemart, St. Robert, Collonges la Rouge and Turenne, or relax by one of the many swimming lakes in the area. Wend a little further and visit the unique sights of Sarlat-la-Caneda, Rocamadour or Cirq la Popie, a few of the picturesque villages that make up the Dordogne and Lot Valleys.

Chabrenas is close to the cultural areas of Limoges (30km) and Brive (50km) both of which have cathedrals, many shops, museums, theatres and plenty of local history. Many summer festivals, classical concerts are held in local towns during July and August.

Horse Racing is held every Wednesday and some weekends during July / August / September in Arnac Pompadour. Horse riding is also available from a local centre in St Germaine Les Belles (10 mins away)

There are many chateaux to visit including our local Coussac Bonneval (8km) also La Grenerie, Hautefort, Arnac Pompadour, Jummillac le Grand and a bit further afield Turenne, Castlenau and Montal.

Brive, Limoges, Objat, St Yrieix la Perche, La Croisille sur Briance are among some of the market towns and all have shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants.

Oradour sur Glane is also just northwest of Limoges and this village was the scene of a 2nd world war massacre by the Nazis.

Spectacular caves can be seen at Grotte de Roc, Goffre de Padirac and the cave paintings of Grotte de Lascaux

Golf: eighteen hole golf courses are within easy travelling distance. Limoges being the nearest having two courses, Golf de la Porcelaine at Panazol 18 hole/par 72 and Golf de Limoges Saint-Lazare, 18 hole/par 72.

There are local swimming lakes in Meuzac, St Germain les Belles, Masseret and St Yrieix la Perche with beaches and small restaurants / snack bars.

Short walks can be taken within the bounds of the property and there are plenty of longer signposted walks or cycle rides around the locality.

The Vezere, Lot and Dordogne valleys are all within easy travelling distance with their stunning views and pretty villages .

If you love Star gazing - the Limousin area is a must! At Chabrenas if all the outside lights are off we have no light pollution and you can sit and watch the stars for hours - a wonderful sight.

Chabrenas has several really good restaurants within five minute drive.
