Why tom humphrey chose Vernon
Very relaxing & comfortable home with all-new appliances. Eagles, osprey, hummers, ducks, deer, and quail are regular visitors to this property depending on season. Beautiful sun-downs with exceptional views. There is no other property in the region that compares...natural beauty but with proximity to all of the amenities.
What makes this Cabin unique
It is apparent that this house was designed by an architect who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright- many unique built-in features, a 65' wall of granite, with e-glass lofted 15' ceiling and wonderful natural light down middle of home. A wall of windows on lake-view side. A 36' dock with kayak rack (+2 kayaks) and mooring buoy is suitable for all kinds of boating activities.
Children not allowed
Put key back in its place. Please clean bbq if you make a mess. Return & lock kayaks with sun-shade cover to reduce sun damage. 50% of rent is due at time of booking to confirm the booking; balance is due 2 weeks prior to arrival.

One of a kind !!!
A couple of years ago we (us and friends of ours from Scotland) rented a week each at cottages on Christina Lake and a wonderful upscale cottage on Kootenay Lake across from the Balfour Ferry. Scotch on the Rocks eclipsed them both. . . easily! This place was made for two couples to escape the realities of everyday life. I don't know where to start. The house was upscale and quite comfortable. The outdoor living area/s were soulful. The caretakers next door were unobtrusive yet amazing. They recommended the best winery to visit, brought some unbelievable tomatoes from their garden for us and were helpful without intruding on our "space". The "voyage " to the lake and dock was an exciting adventure with the steps fabricated from local rocks and boulders. The lake was warm and clear. We and our friends from overseas will come to visit again and heartily recommend Scotch on the Rocks for a time of lifetime good memories.
It was a pleasure to correspond with you prior to your arrival and then to have you at our vacation home. You are delightful guests and good communicators. You are very welcome at our home any time.
Less than expected for the $
We booked Scotch on the Rocks based on the beautiful pics and description of the property. On arrival, we were immediately surprised to see an A-frame cottage which appears to be on the same property, and we were wondering if it was part of the property we had rented. However, it turns out the neighboring home, in which caretakers Karen and Dennis live, is within 30 feet of Scotch, with an adjoining walkway to patios. The proximity of the homes made privacy a big issue, though by no fault whatsoever of Karen and Dennis, who as described by others, are unobtrusive but helpful. We never once saw them using their front patio. However, the side patio with a garden belongs to them, and when they were tending it, we could see them through the large glass door that opens to the patio and has no blind or curtain to provide some privacy. There were no blinds on any of the large windows, which provide a beautiful view, but made us very aware of what we were wearing/not wearing at all times! Furthermore, we could hear them talking in their home, leading us to the natural conclusion that we could probably be heard as well. The location of this home provides an amazing view and solitude since it's close to the end of a dead end road, and would have been perfect if not for the above issues. The skylight overhead extended right into the upstairs bedroom, which also has a large overhead window with no blind, so if you're not an early riser, you will become one, as the morning light streams in at sunrise. Because of this, we moved downstairs after the first night, which as mentioned by another reviewer, was musty and dank. It's a walkout bedroom, but when I opened the door, it was full of cobwebs and bugs, who apparently appreciate the cool concrete patio it opens onto.
The house definitely has state of the art appliances and was built to afford the best view of the lake. We most enjoyed our time on the patio, which was well equipped with numerous stacking chairs, a dining table, one lounger, a modern propane fire pit, and there were folding adirondack chairs in the closet.
There were some other issues within the home that would be easily remedied, and I have chosen to email the owner privately with these concerns as I am quite certain they will remedy if made aware. However, we believed it was important that renters are aware that the neighbors appear to be on the same property, which may be fine for some but was not what we expected based on the photos.
Great location! Awesome view!!
We stayed at Scotch on the Rocks June 2016 for a week. We had a blast! The pictures do not do it justice. Beautiful place, amazing view of the Okanagan!
This was a fun-loving group who really did have a lot of fun. It was a pleasure to have them.
Wonderful get away for a couple in their 30's
What a wonderful Vacay ... Great place for relaxing and entertaining ... Steps to the lake not good when raining, but when dry ... Perfectly fine;) We had relatives visit on 2 different occasions and were able to host with no problem ... We are very thankful for this place being dog friendly ... Both of our well behaved dogs had a lot of fun! The pictures of the inside do not do the place justice ... If u see them ... Just remember it's way better! I read the other reviews and any negative comments are really not justified in my opinion. We will be back! Also, the caretakers are very nice people;)
Nice but Expensive
The property location and amenities are top notch. The property caretakers next door are very helpful; striking a balance between friendly and staying out of the guests' way.
The cottage is roomy but only 2 bedrooms, including one in the basement walk-out which is a bit musty.
Rates charged for this place, however, are very high (similar to top-end resorts).
This property was not rented during the period indicated. However the listing is accurately posted as 2 bed/2 bath with a very large and open/high ceiling entertainment area. It has ~ 2350 ft2 and is in very good condition with >200' water frontage. All appliances, beds, etc have been recently up-dated. The house has received commendation in architecture magazines in its past and most would consider it high-end. It is definitely unique.
Beautiful property, what you see is what you get! This part of Okanagan Lake is fairly quiet, but still close (15 min. drive) to Vernon and shops. Tom the owner was very responsive and helpful, no problems whatsoever with payment, etc. Also, Dennis and Karen the neighbours who live next door were delightful -- very hospitable and helpful, while also respecting our privacy. We rented a boat for a couple days, and enjoyed lots of time swimming off the dock or sitting on the patio watching the lake. We'll be back!
~3 kms north of Ellison Provincial Park and adjacent mountain biking park with a large variety of hiking & biking trails. Can hike to Crystal Springs or Predator GC in 1.5-2 hrs. Silver Star skiing ~ 30-40 minute drive. It is very pleasant to kayak down to Ellison and hike around/have lunch at a lakeside picnic table. Some good wine-tasting in the area including Gray Monk and 50th Parallel.
