Guestbook comments from the owner

From the moment we arrived it was great. We were greeted at the airport by the on site mini bus door to door service. The villa was exactly like the advert apart from the photos do not do justice to the beautiful large garden. Very clean and well equipped.

The complex was very friendly. The views are sensational and sunsets superb.

The highlight was proposing to my girlfriend on the sunroof and her saying yes!!

We will be returning.

Some letdowns with both property and owner

  • 2 of 5

Firstly, do not attempt to find your own way here - especially after dark! We booked a taxi from the airport and had a hire car delivered to the property the next day. So glad we did, because we'd have driven around all night looking for it.

There were some disappointments awaiting us, the worst being that there was not a shred of loo roll - not even in the bottom of the wardrobe where the property info folder said spare supplies were kept. Given that it was after midnight, this was an unwelcome discovery to say the least. There wasn't a drop of water either - the water dispenser in the lounge still had the empty container attached.

Although generally nicely presented, the property needs some TLC - the blind covering the patio door from the kitchen had some slats missing, which looked scruffy, and the patio door itself had to be handled with neurotic care to prevent it coming off its runners. The crockery and cutlery could all use an upgrade.

We enjoyed our holiday, though. The views from the rooftop terrace are indeed great, and the pool area is attractive. If you're going out jn the evening you'll have to drive or take the dolmus from the top of the hill, which is what we suggest – it's cheap and reliable.

Like another reviewer, we encountered difficulties attempting to get our security deposit refunded. We asked for the first time at the end of September and had to endure several lame excuses from the owner and many ignored emails. It was late January before she caved in to our persistence, by which time our memories of this holiday had pretty much been soured.

We may well come back to Yalikavak, but we won't be coming back here.

Unfortunately a negative experience

  • 3 of 5

My daughter and I spent a week at this villa in September 2013, after having to change the original dates due to her health issues, when we had originally planned to stay for two weeks in May 2013 instead. The owner was very cooperative and understanding when we asked to change dates, and we really appreciated that. The intention was to split the two weeks and come back again this year for the second week. Although we had a very nice time we decided not to return for the second week, despite the fact that we had paid for two weeks which we accepted meant we lost our money, but that was our choice.

One of the reasons for not returning was the location of the villa. The villa was advertised as uninterrupted views so we were very disappointed that upon our arrival, there were construction workers in front of the villa for the duration of our stay, building about five new villas right in front of the one we were staying in- this stopped us from sitting on the patio outside because it was dirty, noisy & not relaxing at all!

We sat on the rooftop patio but the beanbags that apparently are kept in the villa for the use of visitors were also nowhere to be seen.

The standard of the villa was poor, with no matching crockery or glasses and the cleanliness wasn't up to scratch either...

There was also rubble everywhere and the road up to the villa (once we finally found it) was really bad, full of potholes & extremely steep- we were concerned that our rental car could get badly damaged!

Apparently there was 24 hour security on site, but we never saw anyone apart from the pool boy sometimes!

However, we made the most of our week and tried to discover the lovely area. On our return, I informed the owner that we wouldn't be returning for a second week, but asked her to transfer the £100 deposit back to our account. Unfortunately she didn't reply to my emails, so I decided to call her. When we spoke in February, she said she would return the deposit a.s.a.p... It is now August and we are still waiting! Again after many ignored emails, I called her and she put the phone down on me as soon as I started speaking!!

I have decided to finally write this post because I want to warn potential holiday goers that they may face similar problems...

never had an experience like this before. I did inform the owner by mail that if the deposit wasn't returned that I had no choice but to let people know about our negative experience.

Turkish Delight

  • 5 of 5

From the time I first made contact with the owner until I returned to the UK everything was first rate. The information received before the holiday was extremely helpful and comprehensive. We took the option to pre book the airport transfers and this was an efficient and friendly service. The villa was immaculate, beautifully furnished and all we could possibly have wished for. The sunsets, viewed from the sun roof each evening were divine. The poolside bar was staffed by friendly smiling people for whom nothing was too much trouble. The colourful market at Yalikavak is well worth a visit with bargains galore and a wonderful atmosphere. A trip to the idyllic fishing village of Gumusluk is an absolute must, with a variety of friendly restaurants serving delicious fresh fish daily. We took a trip to Ephesus, a long journey but well worth it, make sure to take plenty of sun cream and water to drink. Bodrum is well worth a visit and the bus service from the village made this an easy option.

I would recommend this villa without hesitation and intend to return, the only problem is having to leave!

Located halfway up an attractive hillside, with uninterrupted views over Twin Islands and the picturesque Turkish Aegean coastline, between Yalikavac and Gumusluk just a short trip to Cosmopolitan Bodrum, one of Turkey's longest established resorts boasting a wealth of history; including the Mausoleum of Halicanassos, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, as well as a multitude of shops, bars, rstaurants and a vibrant night life. Yalikavac with its popular international marina is very picturesque and has a traffic free centre with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The atmosphere is quiet, unhurried and relaxed. Every Thursday Yalikavac hosts one of the largest markets on the peninsula. Idyllic Gumusluk is just a 10 minute trip from the villa. Once the ancient city of Myndos, the village is now a conservation area. It has a wonderful array of fish restaurants and some craft stalls. Gumusluk has amazing sunsets ideal to watch drink in hand listening to the lapping sea.
