My wife and I met one summer in 1968 on Chippewa Loop on Long Lake. It's no surprise when we tell you our hearts and our favorite place in this world will always be on Chippewa Loop in Park Rapids, MN. Our parents loved it here and had it not been for that, our lives would have gone in totally different directions. We love to share our lake home with other people and watch them make special memories in our special place with those they love. Life is about relationships and this is the place relationships are built.
Mike Appel purchased this cabin in 1992
Growing up having family vacations on Long Lake was a very unique and special vacation for us as kids. It seemed our parents were always working on the cabin on Chippewa Loop, but our memories are of running barefoot down the road, swimming for hours, learning to ski and meeting new friends. There are countless memories of being in fishing boats on Blueberry Point, teasing other friends and fisherman and having a great time. The fish fry gatherings were amazing, the laughter contagious. and the sleeping was the best in the world! Our adult children and grandchildren look forward to MN vacations as much as we always have. It has not lost its charm. It's fun to watch as they run barefoot and do all the things we did with the same enthusiasm. When you stay in our cottage we want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as if you owned it. We want you to use it as if it were yours.
The lake is so clean you can see the minnows swimming around in the shallows, can see your fish on the line way before they get to your boat, and you can see the bluegill swimming around from the end of the dock. If you have little ones they can catch fish all day long from the end of the dock. If you love to go for walks, the winding, sandy road called Chippewa Loop is the best! The clean, fresh pine-scented air is so refreshing you'll want to leave your windows open at night. Even though you're enjoying the Northland on a beautiful lake it's only 6 miles to town where you can find groceries, drug stores, shopping, fishing tackle, live bait, boat dealers, any kind of restaurant you can imagine, theaters, go-cart racing, miniature golf, golf courses galore and yes even a Walmart! What's there not to love?
Appel cabin is just what the doctor ordered. We appreciated all of the amenities and enjoyed cabin, the view, and the lake. The cabin lives up to its listing! We had a wonderful family vacation. Thanks Di & Mike!
We had such a great time staying at this vacation house. I've been coming to this area for several years and this was the nicest place I've ever stayed. Mike and Di are wonderful hosts and we couldn't ask for a better vacation. I've never booked a place from this website and was a little nervous to do so. Would do it again in a heartbeat. The vacation house was super clean, had a nice kitchen, 3 bedrooms, a cool sunroom and an awesome view of the lake. We don't have a boat so that is something that we need when we come up there. This was the only house I found who provided boats. Would highly recommend this rental. You won't be disappointed.
To encourage that the Appel's cottage would only be available to our family, friends and us, we should be writing an unfavorable review. However, Mike and Di have opened their wonderful home to us for the last couple years. Their generosity and wholesomeness makes this rental our favorite. We hope to return for many future vacations. Dale and Von O.
Simply wonderful! Invited by Dale Omlscheid to spend the week with he and Von. My brother from another mother. Cats meow. The cabin (house) was wonderful!! Lake was really fun to explore, and sit around the fire and swap sea stories with Mike.
This was are third year coming up to Appel's cabin! We enjoy our family time on the lake, fishing, boating and playing board games at night! Thanks Mike & Di for another awesome vacation! We can't wait to return next year!! :-)
I stayed with my family for the week and it was very fun. The cabin was beautiful and clean. It had a nice view of the lake and was very well equipped with a fully stocked kitchen, laundry room and nice porch. The only thing I would change is having the owner staying in his garage right on the property. It was unusual, especially when he asked if we had more people at the cabin than we had stated. It took some of the "vacation feel" out of it. Again, it was a very nice cabin and lake with some good fishing. I would have just changed that pretty significant detail.
