About Mike Appel
My wife and I met one summer in 1968 on Chippewa Loop on Long Lake. It's no surprise when we tell you our hearts and our favorite place in this world will always be on Chippewa Loop in Park Rapids, MN. Our parents loved it here and had it not been for that, our lives would have gone in totally different directions. We love to share our lake home with other people and watch them make special memories in our special place with those they love. Life is about relationships and this is the place relationships are built.
Mike Appel purchased this Cottage in 1992
Why Mike Appel chose Park Rapids
Growing up having family vacations on Long Lake was a very unique and special vacation for us as kids. It seemed our parents were always working on the cabin on Chippewa Loop, but our memories are of running barefoot down the road, swimming for hours, learning to ski and meeting new friends. There are countless memories of being in fishing boats on Blueberry Point, teasing other friends and fisherman and having a great time. The fish fry gatherings were amazing, the laughter contagious. and the sleeping was the best in the world! Our adult children and grandchildren look forward to MN vacations as much as we always have. It has not lost its charm. It's fun to watch as they run barefoot and do all the things we did with the same enthusiasm. When you stay in our cottage we want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as if you owned it. We want you to use it as if it were yours.
What makes this Cottage unique
The lake is so clean you can see the minnows swimming around in the shallows, can see your fish on the line way before they get to your boat, and you can see the bluegill swimming around from the end of the dock. If you have little ones they can catch fish all day long from the end of the dock. If you love to go for walks, the winding, sandy road called Chippewa Loop is the best! The clean, fresh pine-scented air is so refreshing you'll want to leave your windows open at night. Even though you're enjoying the Northland on a beautiful lake it's only 6 miles to town where you can find groceries, drug stores, shopping, fishing tackle, live bait, boat dealers, any kind of restaurant you can imagine, theaters, go-cart racing, miniature golf, golf courses galore and yes even a Walmart! What's there not to love?
We are happy to share our home with you and just ask that you respect it and take care of it. Out of respect for other renters that may have allergies, no pets are permitted. There is no smoking allowed in the cottage. The beds will have clean sheets when you arrive. Sheets can be left on the beds when you leave. Owners will take care of washing them and remaking the beds for the next guests. We ask that you leave the cottage like you will find it, clean and neat.

We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home
The entire place was awesome, plenty of room for our family. The sun room was perfect, this was exactly was we were looking for. Lots of Bass in the lake, really enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend it.
Thank you for your comments! We love it when people come and feel at home in our lake home. The lake is so gorgeous for fishing and all water sports. It’s always a blessing to know people have enjoyed their week. Relaxing is the name of the game!!
Loads of fun at the Appel Cottage
The cottage was like a home away from home! We made some great memories and Mike and Di were great to work with! We had everything we could need to make our stay enjoyable. The secluded cabin was great for some quiet time and relaxation. Everyone caught our fair share of fish and really enjoyed the lake and boats. We will for sure be back to make more memories!
We love it when guests have a great time and make memories that will last! This family loved the great fishing and we’re super nice. They left the cottage clean as if it were their own. We’ve tried to make everything homey for getaways...
Peaceful and gorgeous home!
I reserved this home for out of town family, ages 80+ to teens. They and myself absolutely LOVED this home! It felt like walking into home, yet different enough to feel like on vacation! Very cozy, comfortable and inviting! The view of the lake is gorgeous! Loved sitting on the swing, listening to the birds and taking in the beautiful view! The owners of the home are the nicest, helpful and most friendly people I've ever met. No question was left unanswered and it felt like talking with old friends! My family loved their stay so much, that they are planning return trips and want no other home, than this one! Everything you need, from towels to baking ware is there. Nothing needed but yourself and your clothes! Definitely a 10 star home and experience, but can only go to 5(rules😉).. Can't wait to book it again!
It warms our hearts to share our lake home with others for their time away from home. The family that stayed were super nice and appreciative of all we offer. Our goal is to make a difference in people’s lives in a positive way by sharing! Can’t wait to see them again some year!
Mike and Di are terrific hosts. Their cabin is exceptionally clean, comfortable and affordable.
We have been coming to this piece of Minnesota paradise for a number of years. We have never been disappointed with our stay. The lake is clean and clear with a different view at every turn.
The best part about sharing our home with others is seeing their enjoyment of it, their appreciation of the beauty, and the relationships we build over the years. Priceless!!
We had a great time ! The cabin had everything we needed on a beautiful lake, and the view of the lake was wonderful. We caught fish as well, with plenty of golf courses close enough for anyone that likes to play. Mike and Di are also the perfect hosts for your visit .
Paradise on Long Lake
This is our 2nd year here and we could not love it anymore. Mike & Di are amazing people who we now call friends and the cabin is amazing. The view is to die for.....
The best part about owning our lake home is getting to share it with families like this that love it and appreciate it. These families that return become our friends and the relationships make it so special! We want them to feel at home during their stay!
