About Highlander Property Management

Owner Tom & Deanna are full time residents of Boone. Both call their hometown “America” thanks to Tom’s being a veteran (having retired as an Air Force pilot) and both with ties to the airline industry. Deanna originally hails from Louisiana and Tom from Northern California near the Oregon border. Deanna, being a professional artist, shows her hand in the design and decor of their beautiful Parkside Lodge.

Highlander Property Management purchased this house in 2015

Why Highlander Property Management chose Boone

Having grown up in the mountains, Tom knew they’d return to them one day. Deanna has always enjoyed the mountains, and on a family vacation in 2000 the couple fell in love with the area and the people. After that, it was just a matter of “when” to make the move, and their youngest daughter solved that dilemma by transferring to App State!

What makes this house unique

For Tom & Deanna, the property being on the National Park did it for them, along with that boulder!! The amazing serenity of the area, coupled with the outdoor opportunities within Twin Rivers made this a perfect spot for them.

Beautiful Mountain Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Parkside Lodge for a week and used it as a base camp for many adventures -- hiking at Grandfather Mountain, tennis, golf, zip-lining, and horseback riding. We loved the towns of Boone and Blowing Rock and my kids loved getting candy at the Mast General Store in Valle Crucis. The house is gorgeous. The pictures really don't do it justice. The kitchen had everything and the owners were great to deal with.

Immaculate, Stunning, & Amazing Owners

  • 5 of 5

WOW, WOW, WOW!!! This is not our first stay in a VRBO, but this was one that blew anything we've ever rented right out of the water! The home is stunning, family oriented, and has EVERY comfort of home. We stayed with 3 Families this weekend, 6 adults, and 4 children. We NEVER felt cramped and the children loved it! Deanna was so sweet and made the stay so customized. We were there to celebrate my Daughter's 9th birthday and ski. Deanna left my Daughter a balloon bouquet and a gift card to Kilwin's for ice cream treats for her friends. Thanks Deanna, you were a hit!

The home literally has every comfort you can imagine: comfortable beds, the most dishes/cookware/kitchen gadgets, a fully stocked spice cabinet, a stocked toiletry basket incase you forgot something, every thing is labeled(YES, LABELED right down to the light switches), and there is so much more! The Families that stayed with us commented that they too have never stayed in a VRBO that was so fully stocked and they were amazed. We can't thank you enough Deanna and Tom for renting your amazing home to us! It was a 9th Birthday that my daughter will never forget. To anyone looking to rent a home in the area, this home is a MUST!!! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED AND WILL BE BLOWN AWAY!

Thank you again, Deanna, for all that you did to make this weekend so special! Best Wishes!

We will be back next ski season! We were already looking at future dates!

Dream vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at Tom and Deanna’s home with two other families and all thought the home was absolutely amazing! The decor and designs for each living space in the home should be featured on HGTV. From the chef’s kitchen to outdoor living area, all of the rooms were exquisite. The special touches that Tom and Deanna put in the home helped you as a renter feel their warmth and love for the home. They were highly responsive and provided any and everything you might need as a visitor. We’ve rented many homes through VRBO and never experienced one like this one. There was plenty of space for our families such that the kids completely took over the loft space and didn’t want to leave. We highly recommend Parkside Lodge or any property from Tom and Deanna. We’ll be back for sure!!!

Beautiful house!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is one of my favorite vacation rental homes. The house is beautifully decorated and has a great layout perfect for large parties. We had 9 ( 5 adults and 4 children) and had plenty of space for everyone. We were in town to ski and the location is convenient to several local ski areas, not to mention a 15 minute ride to Boone. Would definitely recommend and book again.

Fantastic house with everything you neeed!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely a beautiful house with lots of space for families to spread out. We cooked every night and had a fully stocked kitchen. The kids loved exploring the big rock in the backyard. It took us about 15 minutes to get to Sugar Mountain. Every night we would climb into bed exhausted and comment how much we loved the comfy bed! Thanks for letting us stay in you home.

-The Watauga and Boone Fork rivers run directly through Twin Rivers, the community Parkside Lodge is in. While fishing is not allowed within the community (POA rules), just outside the community you will find exceptional fly fishing for trout in both rivers. FYI, a fishing license is required to fish the rivers here in North Carolina.

-Hiking trails exist within Twin Rivers for your use, and those trails connect with the Julian Price Park allowing you to extend your hiking experience several miles without getting into a car.

-Three miles from the Lodge, you will find the quaint area of Valle Crucis and the original Mast General Store, in operation since the mid 1800's.

-Just up the road toward Banner Elk, is the Grandfather Winery sitting alongside the Watauga River. You'll find great wines and live music there (schedule depends on the time of year).

-Many festivals take place throughout the year in Boone, Banner Elk, and Blowing Rock.

-Friday evenings during the summer you can enjoy live "music on the green" at several locations in Boone and Blowing Rock.

-Grandfather Mountain Park offers spectacular views, trails, and a nature center, home to several local species of animals and birds.

-The Tweetsie Railroad, always popular among families, is open from spring through the fall with special weekend openings during the winter as well and is located between Boone and Blowing Rock on NC-321.

-Lake Watauga is a 45 minute drive away and offers pontoon boat rentals, picnic areas, and a couple of local restaurants/bars. The lake's claim to fame is being the second cleanest lake in the United States.

-Adventure sports are available through local guides including rock climbing and white water rafting.

-Winter months offer 3 ski areas and one tubing area all within a 15-30 minute drive from the Lodge.

-App State is 15-20 minutes from the Lodge in Boone, and offers year round sports events, drama, music, festivals and literature events.

-Lees McRae College is a short 15 minutes away in Banner Elk, and offers a similar experience on a smaller scale.

The Parkside Lodge is conveniently situated in the middle of all these great events and activities. The Lodge is new (built in 2015) and luxuriously appointed. Come and enjoy the mountains with us!
