"I'm happy to share our experience-
Whether the house is do-able for someone in a wheelchair probably depends on the type of wheelchair and their level of mobility. My mom's partner has a motorized wheelchair, but does have a little bit of mobility on crutches (5-10 steps).
Things that worked well-
-the main living area is all accessible by either motorized or manual wheelchair, and there are no thresholds between the living space and kitchen or dining areas.
-there's only one small step into the house- we knew about this from asking Marsha before we booked, so he brought his portable ramp with him, and was easily able to get his mechanized wheelchair up that step. Then it was easy to get into the house.
Things that were more challenging or would be for someone with less mobility:
-the gravel driveway was loose enough that the motorized wheelchair spun its wheels a bit- we ultimately fixed this by going to Lowes and buying some cardboard boxes that we lined up flat so the wheelchair could move over the gravel
-the bathroom and bedroom on the first floor can't really be accessed by wheelchair- the doorways are too narrow, and there's also not enough on a turn radius to make it into the bedroom. (Wasn't an issue for my mom's partner because he can get that far with his crutches).
-the shower on the first floor has a little step to get in- requires either a little lifting or the ability to step over it to get in. Again, not an issue for us, but might be for some people. In terms of handicap accessibility/stability in the shower, my mom brought some suction cup handicap bars, and the tile in the shower was smooth enough that they worked very well. I think it is also likely large enough for a shower seat.
I hope this helps!
Our three generation family enjoyed a fantastic stay at this beautifully maintained and spacious chalet this last MLK Weekend. Kathy is the owner and was a pleasure to deal with. The house is situated in one of the best locations in the Poconos and the view is killer. It was roomy and comfortable for our big group and very well equipped too. Highlights include the centrally located stone fireplace, huge kitchen table and newly redone kitchen, separate game room with pool table, and clear views to the slopes of Big Boulder. Ample parking - we have big SUV's and there were four of them comfortably parked in the driveway. Bedroom setup is good. One on the main floor, five on the second floor. Three bathrooms accommodated us all just fine. The entry mudroom with lots of hooks for jackets and snowsuits, etc was a welcome feature too. Overall, this was a perfect home for our weekend family ski reunion. Highly recommend!
House was very well maintained. Plenty of fun for the weekend. would definitely book again
Our family of 12 (Dad & Mom & 5 kids with spouses) spent a wonderful September weekend at the chalet. Spent hours on the deck and around the house, enjoying the time together. First floor bedroom is perfect for those who can't do stairs very well. Five bedrooms upstairs fit us perfectly. Enjoyed the hot tub and cooking on the grill or going into town for dinner. Everybody loved the place.
Owner very responsive to questions ad concerns. We are very happy with the choice we made for our weekend in the Poconos. Highly recommended.
This place was great. The house is set up perfectly to host 6 couples or a bunch of people. We've all been friends for 20 years and it was great to meet up with everyone since it's harder to get together now a days. Plenty of space and close to the lake. It came with beach passes which made it that much better. The outside was perfect between the deck, hot tub and fire pit we spent both nights outside enjoying everything. 5 Star Place!!
We had a great time, the house was perfect for all the people that were there. It was the perfect choice for our family vacation. Thank you
