About Elena Rauback
My name is Emilio. I was born in Cuba but left there, along with my family, when I was a young man of 9. We lived in Chicago for a number of years before my parents decided to move to South Florida. I came down with them, went to the University of Florida in Gainesville but ended up back in the South Miami area. A friend took me his family place in Key Largo and the rest is history. Never have been able to get away from the area. I split my time between South Miami, where I live, and this place in Key Largo where I fish, dive, take pictures, watch the birds soaring or the manatees that sometimes come into our canals, play tennis and relax with friends as often as I can. It takes me just less than an hour to get from one place to the other, so it's easy.
Why Elena Rauback chose Key Largo
I've been coming down to the Keys since 1967 (yes, I was just a kid!) I immediately fell in love with the area. 20 years later my family and I managed to scrape together the money to buy this property and build a weekend getaway. Been enjoying it ever since.
What makes this House unique
I am partial to the Ocean side of the keys because of the clear blue water, reefs, game (and meat) fishing and scuba diving. The easy accessibility to these areas by boat is what makes it so special to me. The Florida Bay side, though, more than holds its own in terms of natural beauty and you can boat (or drive, even walk) to that side. It's the whole package that attracts me.

Absolutely beautiful setting
Where to begin... ok the house is immaculate and well supplied. Each of the 3 bedrooms has its own full bathroom, 2 en-suites and 1 just outside door. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the gadgets you need for preparation and cooking. The dining area looks out over the canal and is adjacent to the living room area. The furniture is very comfortable and easily seats 5 or 6 people (although why you would want to be inside I don’t know). There is an overhang with a couple of stools at the peninsula end of the kitchen.
The porch outside is spacious and beautifully decorated. You can look over the canal and see the ocean off to the east. Here’s a nice feature. There is access from the dining area and from 2 bedrooms. One bedroom even has its own seating so it provides some privacy from the main area if you want it. Great for multi family or in-laws.
There is a beautiful pool with lounges outside which is cleaned by a pool service every week so the water is always sparkling clean.
The canal leads to the main canal coming into Port Largo and by boat you can be in the ocean within 5 minutes. We rent a boat and do a lot of fishing so its great for us. You will often hear the African Queen toot its horn as it takes people out the main canal. There is snorkeling and diving just down the street as well as a couple of restaurants within walking distance. We often walk down and have some refreshments as well as appetizers late in the afternoon overlooking the water.
We have visitors from out of state so the proximity to the Miami airport Is very handy for us. Shopping is close by as well as many other restaurants.
The owner is very nice and really cares about your stay. He is helpful and full of information about the area so feel free to ask him about anything. We have made this our winter getaway spot and plan to return year after year. We have stayed at many places in the keys over the years and this is by far the nicest place we’ve stayed. It is now our little piece of paradise.
Beautiful GEM in the middle of Port Largo
Great owners and what an amazing location as you will be miles away from some of the best eating, fishing, diving and shopping locations the upper keys has to offer. The home is very clean, it has a nice pool and an amazing tiki set up for that evening cocktail and cigar. The kitchen is updated and the bathrooms as well. It has a nice dock space to accommodate my Everglades 243 with mooring whips to keep the vessel safe. It's a quiet neighborhood, but.... you are right down the street from Sharkeys so when you feel that evening bug to get out its a short walk away. I have stayed at this house a few times and my experiences have been fantastic all three times. Enjoy the keys and keep our oceans clean for future generations to enjoy.. tight lines, Robert
Great property to vacation in the keys
Great property to vacation in the keys. This property is located with great access to dive shops and the many famous reefs nearby. There was also a private boat ramp for us to use and a place to park our boat trailer. The pool was very useful, as our grandchildren think they have to spend all their time in some kind of water. The owner's brother-in-law was there to show us everything we needed to know about the property. We would definitely like to come back for another visit.
Good fun in Key Largo!
I was visiting Key Largo with my wife and 9 year old son. This holiday home was perfect for us. The complete kitchen was excellent for those meals at home, and when we chose to dine out it was close to everything. We drove around and looked at other residential areas and Port Largo is definitely the best. Wide canals, upscale homes, and safe and quiet. Our son was in the pool constantly. 10" of snow back home. Lots of jealous friends this past week!
Awesome vacation house
My family stayed here for a week this summer. This house is an incredible vacation spot. We spent much of our time in the awesome Tiki Hut listening to music. The house is immaculate and modern. Everything a family needs is provided. Additionally, the pool is open and shallow throughout. My boys stayed in the pool for hours each day. Every night we made dinner and sat outside enjoying the view.
Cooking is simple because the kitchen has everything. The owner is extremely helpful and personable. Access to the ocean is minutes away. Indeed, we did not want to leave. We will return.
Thank you, Sunnie. It was a real pleasure having you and your family visit us.
Like a 5 star hotel!
I can't stay enough about this nice vacation house. The location is great, the neatness and decoration are perfect,I will recommend it to all my friends and family who are looking for a fun and relaxing place to vacation at the Upper Keys.
Key Largo, and Port Largo specifically, are only one hour yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of Miami and other larger cities. If you like the ocean and all related activities you will love it here. The ocean side of the keys, just outside our canal, offers reefs, wrecks, drop-offs, sand and grass flats, small islands and a very well developed infrastructure. The Florida Bay side, which you can also get to easily by boat (or you can walk across US 1) from our place gives you the Back Country of shallow water, tranquility, game fish of all shapes and sizes and gorgeous sunsets.
