About Kevin and Robin
We are lovers of hiking, natural scenery, cycling, food, people, reading and music. The Lodge gives us all the above and we get here as much as possible. When we cannot be here, we love sharing the Lodge with visitors from all over the world who appreciate its historic charms and modern touches.
Kevin and Robin purchased this Lodge in 2012
Why Kevin and Robin chose Phoenicia
We rented properties in the Catskills for years and through trial and error (some places can look so good in the photos!), and we finally found Woodland Valley. Woodland Valley has the best combination of incredible natural beauty as well as being near small town Phoenicia when you need good restaurants (Phoenicia Diner or Peekamoose), a charming library, Phoenicia playhouse, ice cream or FUDGE! When we found the Lodge, we fell in love instantly. It is heaven - two hours from NYC or Cooperstown and on Burroughs' famed Woodland Valley trout brook! The Lodge is themed on the US National Parks. You'll find framed antique postcards in every room and National Park themed Pendleton blankets on the beds.
What makes this Lodge unique
We've set up the Lodge for convenience and comfort. No old, cramped full size beds here - queens or twins only - plus we have tempurpedic mattresses and 100% cotton sheets. Towels are varying shades so its easy to remember yours when you use it again. Coffee mugs have bold letters on them that spell out 'THE LODGE' to keep them straight. The Lodge is such a chill home, and you will not want to leave since you're here in your own wilderness.

Lovely Catskills Hideaway
Terrific secluded catskills retreat. Old house so small bedrooms but living room, kitchen, and dining/sun room are so nice to occupy. Great base for exploring the area around Phoenicia, which is my favorite part of the Catskills.
I set up in the dining/sun room as my office as I worked the mornings I was there. It was an awesome place to work, with the breeze and creek sound and sun coming through the windows.
Mild criticism: yard was a wee bit overgrown. But Im here in September after a sumner of growth.
Also, path to the fire pit is bit treacherous for those not completely abled, like my friend on crutches. My elderly mom could not get down there. Also, there is a door in the kitchen to the side of the house which was locked shut. Meaning you have to walk out the front and around to get from the kitchen to the bbq and outdoor table. Not a probkem for most, but annoying if you are on crutches . Please just open that door.
All in all, we decided we want a place just like it for our family retreat.
So glad that you enjoyed your Lodge stay Eric! It is a wonderful place. Historic craftsman charms, but with the modern updates we all appreciate. The Catskill room for working, reading, game playing, and dining of course is magic - surrounded by nature on three sides and the creek sounds below.
Come Lodge again soon!
Perfect place for a weekend in the Catskills...even if raining!
My family and I had the loveliest time staying at the lodge for our wet weekend in the Catskills. It was cozy, well equipped and totally authentic. Kevin was great at getting back to us with any questions. Kids adored the bear cave, creek & campfire. Adults loved the hikes, evenings by the fire and fact that kids were outside having an awesome time. Thanks again Kevin & Robin.
So happy to hear that your stay was enjoyable Pippa! We love sharing the Lodge with families. It is one of the most incredible spots to spend time. There are great places for together family time as well as nooks to break apart and read a book or listen to music alone. Plus the nature is right out the door!
Also glad the kids enjoyed the Bear Cave! Hope to have you guys back at the Lodge soon.

Perfect and comfortable stay at The Lodge
My family and I spent the week of Thanksgiving at The Lodge this year. We loved it! The Lodge more than comfortably fit the 6 of us with room to spare while still feeling cozy. It was extremely clean, beds were lovely with warm blankets - which we needed as temperatures outside were freezing! It was too early in the season for skiing so we just took it easy. The quaint town of Phoenicia just down the road supplies most basic groceries, a liquor store and firewood, with a larger grocery stores and farm stands within 20 minutes.
Our family loved the fireplace in the main room and gathered to relax, read and play games. We also made full-use of the kitchen for some meals and our Thanksgiving dinner. We found everything we needed to cook and enjoyed the dining area off of the back of the kitchen. The room has wrap-around windows that look over the stream behind the house. When we did leave the house, some of our favorite spots were the Woodstock Brewery and the Phoenicia Diner.
Kevin and Robin were extremely communicative and responsive - perfect hosts. You can tell that they put a lot of thought into the organization of the house and many details. We would definitely return to The Lodge in the future. It's an ideal place in any season.
We loved having you at the Lodge! Please come again anytime - fantastic family!
Lovely Streamside Retreat
The house is spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and user friendly. The hosts were very accommodating and we enjoyed our stay. It would have been perfect in better weather but we were there during a week of extreme heat. There are only two fans and they are both in the upstairs bedrooms. Many of the windows do not have screens and cannot be opened. Ceiling fans would be a great improvement as well as more window screens. It’s a lovely home but these issues need to be addressed to make sure guests enjoy their stay even in hot weather.
Thanks so much for your review. It was indeed one of the hottest weeks of the summer when you visited. Sorry for the lack of fans! We learned from your review from our caretaker/cleaners that two fans which had previously been in in the downstairs bedrooms had somehow disappeared the week before you arrived. The Lodge is now back to full fan strength for summers!
Again, sorry for the hot weather during your visit. In our 6 years of renting the Lodge, we never had any previous heat complaints, as the nights cool in summer (normally to the 60's, but sometimes even to the 50's), but I recall during your visit that temps stayed in the 70's. Additionally, using the upstairs fans to blow hot air out during the day and cool air in at night usually makes for pleasant nights.
Please Lodge with us again soon!

Wish there were more than 5 stars!
The Woodland Valley Lodge was amazing! We couldn't have asked for a better fit for our party of six adult siblings celebrating a Birthday. The home was a perfect mix of old charm and modern amenities. We were in awe of the space from the minute we walked through the door. No surprise - everything was as stated in the description. Comfortable cozy beds, well equipped kitchen, super clean, and lots of room for all. We had planned on eating out our first night but decided to eat in because we were so comfortable and didn't want to leave the house. We enjoyed a long walk up the road, exploring the backyard stream, drives through neighboring towns, as well as the charming village of Phonecia. Our two night stay seemed to last so much longer because we were so relaxed and comfortable! The owners are extremely thoughtful hosts and were quick to respond to any questions I had when booking the property. This is definitely a home I would hope to rent again!
We're so glad that you and your family enjoyed yourselves. The Lodge is a family haven, and we're glad to share it with caring families like yours.
Come back soon!
A Wonderful Weekend Woodland Getaway
Had a great time with family and friends this weekend (all 10 of us). The Lodge is very cool and comfortable. The kids loved playing in the creek. We all hiked some beautiful mountain trails nearby. There's a nice little yard for playing games (e.g. cornhole). The firepit made for some fun nights with our acoustic instruments. I enjoyed some fly fishing, but didn't catch anything. And the nearby Phoenicia business district kinda feels like something out of Twin Peaks, but in a good way. Anyway, thanks for a great time and hope to be there again next year.
Glad that you and your family enjoyed the Lodge! Sounds like you got the best of all worlds - the fishing, swimming and hiking around the Lodge and the best breaks in Phoenicia. The eclectic shops and wonderful restaurants are always vibrant and fun for the entire family. Our favorites are Brios, Sweet Sues and the Alamo Cantina (for Taco Tuesday!), and Phoenicia Diner just outside of town!
Come back again next year!
