About Vickie Moyle
Owners, Hank & Vickie, quit the pollution of the big city twenty years ago and moved their family to the Sunset Canyon Ranch...and have never looked back. We wake up in Zions every day! Need we say more!
Vickie Moyle purchased this House in 1992
Why Vickie Moyle chose Virgin
We fell in love with Zion National Park when we had a vacation home in nearby St. George, Utah thirty years ago. We always dreamed of owning a ranch and then one day, after five years of searching, the most enchanting place in the world presented itself - an old famous ranch bordering Zion National Park. The ranch had been used as a location for several movies through the years and we fell in love.
What makes this House unique
When you drive into the gates of The Sunset Canyon Ranch you are enthralled by the stunning view of Kolob and Cougar Mountain. Down a long steep drive into the canyon, your heart melts as you view the green pastures, surrounded by white fences. A lovely creek runs through the entire property and cottonwood trees line the banks. Several ponds are claimed as home by ducks and a variety of fish. This is a veritable jewel oasis in the desert. But the best thing of all...and the story behind the name...is as the sun settles for the day our canyon comes aglow with stunning orange colors. The peace one feels in our magical kingdom is second only to the majesty one feels in Zion National Park.

This place is awesome.
Best Vrbo we have ever stayed at. Absolutely beautiful location and surroundings. This has to be the best place to stay around Zion. Owners are amazing
We traveled to Zion in April for the Zion Half and found this incredible home and can't wait to return! We traveled with another couple and had so much room and privacy for all of us! The outdoor patio was perfect. The pickleball, basketball and pool were a beautiful touch. And the turkey, the horses, and all the birds, oh and the waterfall made us feel like we were inside the park! The sunset off the canyon walls were amazing! The baby puppies were so fun!!! Vickie and Hank go out of there way to make your stay perfect. We have been blessed to stay at several houses, but this one was stocked better than home! St. George airport was a convenient drive, about 45 minutes and there were two towns less than 30 minutes away for groceries and/or eating out. Springdale had wonderful selections - don't miss Oscars!
Zion National Park Stay
The log house at Sunset Canyon Ranch was the perfect place to stay for a visit to Zion National Park. Away from the crowds in Springdale but an easy distance to travel to arrive early in the park for a day of hiking. The house was stocked with more supplies than anywhere we have stayed, was extremely clean, and the outdoor amenities were awesome! We cooked every meal in, not to save money, but to enjoy the ranch and each others company while prepping meals together.
Vickie and Hank were extremely gracious hosts offering awesome hiking ideas away from the crowds, sharing their 7 beautiful puppies, and making sure we had everything we needed. The ranch is stunning and provided the serenity
we were looking for.
If we travel back to this area we will definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends.
Best VRBO yet!!! Worth every penny
I can not say enough about how amazing this property was. The location is perfection. Away from all the crowds in Zion and yet right near beautiful hiking. The house itself was the most well stocked VRBO I have ever rented. There is so much room and so many comfortable beds. We loved hanging out with Bear and Maddy and their adorable sweet puppies. My kids loved the pool, the trampoline, ping pong and pickle ball. It's not like renting just a home. You get the overall experience. Vicki and Hank are so warm and welcoming and gave us maps of wonderful hikes in the area. This is by far the best VRBO I have ever rented and we have stayed in quite a few. Great for families or just for folks looking for some peaceful time in an idyllic setting. We will be back!
We had such a wonderful time getting to know your precious family and our hearts are gladdened that you had such a great experience. What a wonderful time Spring is here in Zion -- even if the flowers and trees were not yet in bloom. We love the babies that come on the ranch in Spring - horses, cows, ducks, and this time - baby puppies! The dogs keep looking for your family! Thanks for leaving a bit of your happy thoughts here at the ranch and come again soon! Vickie & Hank
Fabulous house for six adults visiting Zion!
My wife and I, along with our 2 adult children and spouses, enjoyed a week-long stay at Sunset Canyon Ranch. We arrived later than expected from Las Vegas Airport, but the owner was very accommodating with our check-in time.
Three bedrooms were perfect for us. My wife and I claimed the very large master bedroom suite which included a sitting area with slider to the deck, a large walk-in closet and large bathroom with a walk in shower and Jacuzzi tub. The king-sized bed was very comfortable.
The kids reported their bedrooms to be very comfortable also.
We heavily utilized the kitchen which was well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc. The two refrigerators made it possible to stock up on food. We cooked our evening meals every day except one, and enjoyed the large dining table for many hours of playing games. Coffee on the deck was a favorite morning activity, mostly due to the litter of kittens that liked to hang out there.
We stayed connected to the outside world using the WiFi which worked well during our stay. The big screen TV in the living room was used to stream YouTube videos, often featuring rock climbing.
Although we did hike the ranch a bit, and took advantage of the ping pong table and swimming pool near the main house, we spent most of our vacation out exploring Zion National Park. Mountain biking, climbing and hiking were our main activities, with a hike to Angels Landing being a highlight for me. A "rest day" included some shopping in Springdale. We made the trek over to the main gate of the park just beyond Springdale many times, but our last day of hiking was just a few miles north of the ranch on the Hop Valley Trail. If you want to avoid the crowds, I advise exploring Zion National Park access north of the ranch.
One other thing we did while on this trip was a day trip to Page, AZ to visit Horseshoe Bend and Horseshoe Bend Slot Canyon. If you have an extra day and don't mind a car trip, check it out.
My advise to visitors to Sunset Canyon Ranch is to plan your meals pretty well. There isn't a grocery store nearby to pick up the forgotten item, so make the trip to the store count.
I recommend Sunset Canyon Ranch highly. This is the nicest and most comfortable home we have rented through VRBO so far. This is the only VRBO we have rented in the United States where we met the owners. There house is quite a distance from the rental house, so we seldom saw them, but when we did, it was a very enjoyable conversation.
Convenient but peaceful location and beautifully appointed home
We stayed at the Log House on Sunset Canyon Ranch for 8 days with another couple. The home was well appointed, beautifully decorated and well-kept. The layout was perfect for sharing as each bedroom had a sitting area and there was as much privacy as desired. We were easily able to drive to Zion National Park in 30 minutes or to St. George in a similar time. The ranch also has many amenities including a pool. The kitchen was well supplied with appliances and many spices and condiments. This was a very nice way to spend a week in peace and quiet or to use as a gateway to Zion. It was nice to have a place to retreat to after a day in the park.
Imagine a private, unique interlude with Zion sans thousands of tourists. Nestled in a deep canyon beneath the red rock and volcanic mesas of Zion National Park, you’ll find the perfect, very exclusive, hideaway for your vacation rental. Green pastures, a gurgling stream, ponds and ancient trees create a stark pastoral contrast to the raw, wind-sculpted red mountains of Zion. This 750 acre working ranch is bordered by Zion National Park and BLM land and is centrally located for your day visits to Zion, Bryce, Cedar Breaks, the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas.
