Vickie Moyle purchased this house in 1992
We fell in love with Zion National Park when we had a vacation home in nearby St. George, Utah thirty years ago. We always dreamed of owning a ranch and then one day, after five years of searching, the most enchanting place in the world presented itself - an old famous ranch bordering Zion National Park. The ranch had been used as a location for several movies through the years and we fell in love.
When you drive into the gates of The Sunset Canyon Ranch you are enthralled by the stunning view of Kolob and Cougar Mountain. Down a long steep drive into the canyon, your heart melts as you view the green pastures, surrounded by white fences. A lovely creek runs through the entire property and cottonwood trees line the banks. Several ponds are claimed as home by ducks and a variety of fish. This is a veritable jewel oasis in the desert. But the best thing of all...and the story behind the name...is as the sun settles for the day our canyon comes aglow with stunning orange colors. The peace one feels in our magical kingdom is second only to the majesty one feels in Zion National Park.
The "log cabin" is more like staying at a friend’s house while they're away.
The setting is beautiful, remote and tranquil. It has two different porches that were made for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery. You can hear the cascading water from the river that runs along the property. There is also a wonderful patio that has an outdoor eating area as well as comfortable furniture for relaxing. The property has a beautiful landscape with fig, pomegranate, apple trees, lots of flowers as well as the wildlife on the ranch.
The living space is well laid out and incredibly comfortable. The home is fully stocked; more movies than you could watch in a year and your choice of big screen TV’s to watch them on. All of the necessities; pots, pans, coffee maker, spices, washer/dryer etc. We grilled most nights on the patio making good use of the propane grill. Excellent wifi for internet access. The beds and furniture are very comfortable.
The owners are very friendly and accommodating and made us feel very welcome and comfortable.
This is one of the rare places that makes you feel absolutely at home
This property was very privacy, cozy and quiet which is perfect for relaxing. there are tons of kitchen supply can make easy cook. only one thing was uncomfortable, Our group was 3 couple who looked the 3 bedroom but one of bedroom has full size bed hard to sleep 2 persons together so I slept on the couch, everything else was perfect. specially the owner's couple was very gentle & helpful
There are so many good things to say about our stay. What stands out for me is the peacefulness and beauty both in the home and the surrounding ranch. We went hiking at Zion but actually had wonderful experiences just exploring the settings nearby. The owners are very gracious and welcoming. It is an outstanding place to visit.
The Log House at Sunset Canyon Ranch was the perfect place for our family hiking adventure to Zion National Park! 3 adult couples each had their own areas (the master bath/bedroom are simply luxurious, plus two additional bedrooms with another bath/shower and a third bathroom); the kitchen/dining/living room area spacious and very well stocked, but beyond that - gorgeous gardens, an outdoor living room next to a babbling brook, shaded deck where we laughed at the flocks of hummingbirds...and a hiking trail with a waterfall on the property. Did I mention the large pool after a great day hiking? We've stayed in many places around the country - this log home and ranch far exceeded our expectations, and we are already planning another stay with other family members who've seen our pictures. Easy access to Zion National Park and even road tripped over to Bryce Canyon one day. Owners Vickie, Hank and Heinz wonderful and so very helpful. Can't recommend highly enough!
The Log House & the ranch far surpassed our expectations. The accommodation was spacious & very comfortable & the ranch is ideally situated to access the valley floor at Zion but also the quieter & cooler areas towards Kolob Reservior & Kolob Canyons which we loved. We had 2 boys with us who had an amazing time exploring, fishing & swimming. Vickie, Hank & Heinz were delightful & really put themselves out to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
Had a great stay at one of the homes on this lovely family ranch as an alternative to staying at a hotel closer to Zion. Property is well-maintained and stocked with all amenities/appliances we needed. The backyard is absolutely gorgeous. It's a relatively short drive from the highway and Springdale, and as long as you follow the directions closely, the property is fairly easy to locate without GPS. The owners were very cordial, flexible, and available for anything we could have needed. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area looking for something other than the usual lodge/hotel style accommodations you typically find when visiting national parks.
Imagine a private, unique interlude with Zion sans thousands of tourists. Nestled in a deep canyon beneath the red rock and volcanic mesas of Zion National Park, you’ll find the perfect, very exclusive, hideaway for your vacation rental. Green pastures, a gurgling stream, ponds and ancient trees create a stark pastoral contrast to the raw, wind-sculpted red mountains of Zion. This 750 acre working ranch is bordered by Zion National Park and BLM land and is centrally located for your day visits to Zion, Bryce, Cedar Breaks, the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas.
