We fell in love with Zion National Park when we had a vacation home in nearby St. George, Utah thirty years ago. We always dreamed of owning a ranch and then one day, after five years of searching, the most enchanting place in the world presented itself - an old famous ranch bordering Zion National Park. The ranch had been used as a location for several movies through the years and we fell in love.
When you drive into the gates of The Sunset Canyon Ranch you are enthralled by the stunning view of Kolob and Cougar Mountain. Down a long steep drive into the canyon, your heart melts as you view the green pastures, surrounded by white fences. A lovely creek runs through the entire property and cottonwood trees line the banks. Several ponds are claimed as home by ducks and a variety of fish. This is a veritable jewel oasis in the desert. But the best thing of all...and the story behind the name...is as the sun settles for the day our canyon comes aglow with stunning orange colors. The peace one feels in our magical kingdom is second only to the majesty one feels in Zion National Park.
Perfect place for my family! The hosts, Vicky and Hank, provided just the right balance of being extremely helpful before and during our visit without disrupting our privacy and space. Vicky is very professional, genuine, and appropriately proud of her accommodations and the surrounding environs.
The place was clean and fully loaded with all kitchen niceties for those that want to enjoy a home cooked meal after a day outdoors. We enjoyed our evenings immensely just lounging, cooking and taking in a movie from their large collection.
I loved the location of the ranch. It was a quick 18 minutes to the park traveling through some beautiful terrain. For those that want to just removed themselves from the bustle of the strip leading into the Park, I think this is the perfect solution.
hope to be back.
The home is absolutely beautiful along with the scenery. Vickie was a wonderful hostess and there to help with any of your needs. I highly recommend staying here, you will not be disappointed. Make sure to keep the hummingbird feeder full if you stay, and they will keep you well entertained. Lol
One of the nicest and most beautiful places I've stayed, this place had it all, and I mean ALL!! Highly recommend if you're going to Zion or the surrounding areas, you will not be disappointed. Vicki, the owner, is a sweetheart and made sure that we were well taken care of and all our needs were met. If you're looking for a very peaceful, relaxing, and quiet place with breathtaking views, this is it.
Vickie and Henry were very good hosts, and received us at their home to give the keys and sign papers. Vickie drove her car to lead us to the home, and spent quite some time on instructions. Their dogs Bear and Maddy were absolutely adorable, and the kids in our party loved them!
The home is lovingly decorated, and my wife took photos for ideas for our own home! The view outside with the stream flowing made it beautiful for the morning breakfast.
The home has absolutely everything that we needed for our stay.
Zion park is an easy 25 minute drive from the home. We also ran a few miles near the home, and the views were just stunning! We also were blown away that Henry runs around 4-5 miles even now, and he has run a sub 3:00 marathon!
Thank you, Vickie and Henry, for hosting us! It was a memorable vacation for us.
We loved our stay at this very special place. Roomy, well-appointed cabin nestled in the trees next to a musical stream. A peaceful private escape after our days hiking and exploring in fabulous Zion National Park, which is an easy drive nearby. Beautifully decorated and thoughtfully laid out. The kitchen is huge and well stocked - including many spices and other staples. We enjoyed family meals, movies, and game nights with our kids. Especially liked the big back porch with overstuffed furniture overlooking the river. Highly recommended!
The "log cabin" is more like staying at a friend’s house while they're away.
The setting is beautiful, remote and tranquil. It has two different porches that were made for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery. You can hear the cascading water from the river that runs along the property. There is also a wonderful patio that has an outdoor eating area as well as comfortable furniture for relaxing. The property has a beautiful landscape with fig, pomegranate, apple trees, lots of flowers as well as the wildlife on the ranch.
The living space is well laid out and incredibly comfortable. The home is fully stocked; more movies than you could watch in a year and your choice of big screen TV’s to watch them on. All of the necessities; pots, pans, coffee maker, spices, washer/dryer etc. We grilled most nights on the patio making good use of the propane grill. Excellent wifi for internet access. The beds and furniture are very comfortable.
The owners are very friendly and accommodating and made us feel very welcome and comfortable.
This is one of the rare places that makes you feel absolutely at home

Nestled in a deep canyon beneath the red rock and volcanic mesas of Zion National Park, you’ll find the perfect, very exclusive, hideaway for your vacation rental. Green pastures, a gurgling stream, ponds and ancient trees create a stark pastoral contrast to the raw, wind-sculpted red mountains of Zion. This 750 acre working ranch is bordered by Zion National Park and BLM land and is centrally located for your day visits to Zion, Bryce, Cedar Breaks, the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and Las Vegas.
