'Idyll Tyme!' is a place to do most anything, or nothing at all! The cabin underwent an extensive remodel in 2013, with Direct TV, wireless internet, flat-screen TV, and many other amenities. You can enjoy squirrels, raccoons, birds, and a great view from the wrap-around deck any time of day, although it is especially nice in the evenings. From the deck, loft and bedrooms, one can see Lily Rock in all its splendor. The gated deck can be completely fenced in and secure, so it is safe for young children and pets.
Doug is a retired US Forest Service employee and Bonnie is a musician by profession, so the community's emphasis on the arts and the forest was a good match for both of us (we are now retired-sort of!). We lived in this house for 9 years while Doug was US Forest Service District Ranger and still know many local residents here, so we have extensive knowledge of the area and its special charms. We have used vacation rentals in other parts of the world and decided that our place was a wonderful area to share with others, just as others have shared with us, whether here in the US or abroad. We are happy to answer any questions you may have, and to welcome you to this little corner of paradise. Come and enjoy!
Bonnie and Doug purchased this cabin in 1981
While we lived here, we realized the special benefits of this great environment and the wonderful people who live here, and everyone's efforts to keep it that way. We look forward to sharing our piece of paradise with you.
We love the fact that the cabin is cozy and at the same time gives the feeling of openness. It is very airy and bright. The day we walked in, the first comment we made was, 'Oooo, we like!!' Through the years, we have had wonderful conversations on the wrap-around deck, especially in the summer evenings, but year around as well.
We enjoy decorating for seasons, holidays and special occasions!
In completing the remodel of our place, we've made every effort to make the cabin comfortable and modern, yet compatible with the feeling that is essentially Idyllwild. We love to take walks around the area and just enjoy the peace, but equally enjoy the local concerts and events, as well as the DIRECT TV, Wi-Fi, and other amenities of the cabin. There are level streets in the neighborhood which make a good walking or jogging route, and the house is completely accessible in winter.
Idyllwild Arts provides great concerts and is only a short drive away (please contact them for concert schedules). You can find wonderful restaurants, unique shops, and an abundance of nature related activities here. We enjoy providing seasonally appropriate decorations for the cabin, making your holidays here feel like home.
Since we live only about 30 minutes away, we make ourselves available as needed. We enjoy meeting and greeting our guests whenever possible. After all, strangers are only friends we haven't yet met!
House was very clean, firewood on hand to use, kitchen had everything needed if you wanted to prepare meals. Located close to town and also hiking. Owner was very helpful and easy to contact throughout the whole process. Would definitely recommend to others!
The cabin is located in the northeast section of the small town of Idyllwild. If you enjoy peace and quiet, this is the place for you. The cabin is a cozy 3 bedroom with a King size bed in the loft and two queen size beds downstairs. The shelves are stocked with plenty of extra blankets, comforters, and towels. The living room has a really neat wood stove to keep the place warm with plenty of wood out by the shed. There's also Central Air and Heating.
There are plenty of places to dine in the town. We frequented The Red Kettle for breakfast and Fratellos and the Gastrognome for dinner. Great food all around.
As far as recreation goes, there are plenty of hiking trails in the area. We hiked the "Ernie Maxwell" and the "Devil's Slide" trail which intersects the PCT trail.
All in all , my wife and I had a great time and recommend highly recommend Doug and Bonnie's cabin.
This was our second stay at this wonderful cabin and was just as great as the first. We love the Fern Valley Neighborhoods, very quiet and just right outside town. It's a bit of a walk to town, but it's only a 3 minute drive. The cabin's deck is so peaceful and we loved watching the squirrels chase each other in the trees. We stayed for 4 days, so we cooked a lot of meals and the BBQ provided is great. Kitchen is very well stocked, furnishings very nice and comfortable and the beds are even more comfortable than I remembered. I always seem to sleep so well there, love the upstairs bedroom with the nice mountain views. Sunrises and sunsets are amazing in Idyllwild. We haven't met Doug and Bonnie yet, but Doug always checks in and is available if need be. We haven't needed anything, the cabin's instructions on everything is very easy to follow. We finally got to the Rustic Theatre this time, what a cute place! Idyl-Awhile is great for wine, Fratello's a must if you want GREAT Italian food, Ferro's food is excellent too, and is a very cool place. Cafe' Aroma is better for lunch than dinner (in my opinion) and Tommy's for sure for breakfast and lunch. On the weekends most all of the restaurants ,even the coffee shop, have live local music. Hiking is great, and this is the best time of year to do that. Lilacs, tulips, iris's and all the other flowers right now are going off!!! We love Idyllwild, it's our "go to" place when we want to get out of town. Can't wait for our next trip up!
Bonnie and Doug's home was everything we wanted and more for our weekend getaway. Their home was beautiful, warm and cozy and provided everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed dinner in town one night and cooked a meal our second night... their beautiful kitchen was fully stocked and lovely too! They even provided extras like a coffee/tea/hot chocolate station with snacks! There was plenty of firewood, towels and even shower supplies. The home is well located, minutes to downtown and hiking, while providing an isolated feeling in this beautiful mountain town. Our dogs were safe and happy... the large, fenced porch provided a serene and comfortable place for four adults and two large pups. Although we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Bonnie or Doug, they made sure (via telephone) we were able to enter the property and that we were happy and had everything we needed to enjoy our time there. Will return in a heartbeat!
We had an amazing weekend At Idylltyme! Doug and Bonnie were more than helpful and very easy to communicate with. The cabin was spacious, cozy and very clean. The beds were super comfortable and nicely organized. They even had coffee and snacks for us. The maps of idyllwild they provided were also very helpful. I highly recommend staying here and I look forward to my next visit.
The cabin is in beautiful Fern Valley, 1 mile from Humber Park, location of many major trailheads, and about 2 miles from several other trails and the unique shops and restaurants in the center of town. Peaceful, private, and serene, it is a wonderful place for a romantic stay for two, a friends' getaway, small group retreat, business planning sessions, fun with the family, you name it! We are on a paved road which is plowed when it snows. If you don't know where something is, please ask. Desert communities, San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles are all within easy reach. The Idyllwild Arts facility is close by. There is also wine tasting in Idyllwild and Temecula (about 1 hour away).
