We had a rocky start to our vacation, having rushed to the emergency room the night we were supposed to originally arrive, to having to go back when we were already an hour into the trip because we left behind some stuff. To say the least, when we finally made it there the next morning, we were in a highly stressed mindset. The cabin immediately had a relaxing effect on us. After unpacking, we sat in the sunroom to enjoy the afternoon breeze. Surrounded by nature, it was very peaceful and soothing to the senses. We were able to let down almost immediately. There was plenty of room for the kids to hang out and play, both indoors and outdoors. Our family enjoyed exploring Grass River via canoeing and kayaking. The kids enjoyed swimming in the river, too. The water was clear and you can see the bottom. We even caught a crayfish! My husband, a family friend and our two oldest children rode bikes around the beautiful Torch Lake which is also very close to this cabin. There's a swing and adirondack chairs by the dock that are the perfect place to sip your morning tea or coffee as you watch nature go about it's business. And the sunset is amazing to watch as we made smores around the fire pit. Thank you for making this property available for us to enjoy! We will definitely recommend this to others. We had a very memorable and relaxing week, connecting with family and friends.
Thanks for the great review! We're so glad you enjoyed your time at Grass River House!
Jump on the river in one of our two kayaks or rent a boat or jet-ski at DeWitt's Marina on Clam River to enjoy all that this area has to offer. The Dockside restaurant on Clam River is a short boat ride away. Keep going and you can visit the famous sandbar on Torch Lake. If you have all day, you can even make it all the way to Elk Rapids and Lake Michigan!
Grass River is a protected wetlands area so your view from the shore is natural beauty all around. Our home offers lots of privacy as it is situated on 2+ wooded acres on a dead-end road. The sunroom may be your favorite spot to enjoy your morning coffee or watch the gorgeous sunsets.
If hiking and biking are more your speed, this area will not disappoint. Just 1/4 mile down the road is a rail-trail heading north or south for your enjoyment. Several famous golf courses are available less than five miles away at Shanty Creek/Schuss Mountain. Fine dining abounds in this area with Short's Brewing Company and more in Bellaire. Charlevoix and its incredible shopping and dining are just 45 minutes north. Traverse City and the Grand Traverse Bay area is just 45 minutes southwest.
