We hope you enjoy our cottage and our home town as much as we do. When you love New Orleans, it loves you back and makes you feel like you are home.
My wife and I purchased the cottage in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina flooded our home with 11.9 feet of water. After the Hurricane we moved 3 times in a little over a year. At that time we had not started rebuilding our home in Lakeview and decided that we needed a home to call our own knowing that the rebuilding would be long and tedious due to the lack of available contractors. Anne always dreamed of owning a Creole Cottage and even visualized this Cottage in her dreams. She road the neighborhood for weeks on end looking for the Cottage and one lucky day, there it was. She called me at work so excited she could hard contain herself and the rest is history. We were fortunate enough to purchase the Cottage and moved in in early 2006. We enjoyed living in the neighborhood for over two years until moving back home in 2008. We had a lovely friend in graduate school who treasured the Cottage live there until she completed her Ph.D. and relocated. So now we are ready to share this jewel of Esplanade Ridge with visitors from all over the world.
Charlie and Anne Singer purchased this cottage in 2006
I spent the first 24 years of my life in this neighborhood until my wife and I married. We both dreamed of owning a cottage in this neighborhood and, for me, it was like coming home. This neighborhood and cottage is something you have to experience. It is a slice of heaven and we hope that you feel the same way about our Cottage and the neighborhood.
Our Creole Cottage is centrally located just steps off Historic Esplanade Avenue. You can quickly get to any of the many attractions the City of New Orleans has to offer with a quick walk, trolly, bus, or taxi ride within minutes. Enjoy walking, biking or just people watching from our home. Or, leisurely take in all of the activities in our area ... people are walking and chatting, eating and enjoying beverages in the many outside cafes and pubs. People are running, relaxing in the park. Enjoy watching the bike tours riding by our home viewing all of the Historic architecture in our neighborhood. The cottage was completely renovated in early 2013. It is a single dwelling with keyless entry specific to each guest. Paper products, kitchen staples, bath products, linens, barbecue pit and tools. We aim to provide all of the comforts you expect from a luxury hotel with the benefit of a well appointed kitchen. Visitor satisfaction is important to us. We live very close to the Cottage and will be available to you. We will be happy to provide you with recommendations, directions, advice on the best way to enjoy our city. We are a telephone call away if you need us. Otherwise, enjoy your privacy and love our City.
Location, location, location! Staying here gives you the opportunity to live like a local, while still being a quick Uber ride away from any of the tourist attractions. Highlights were the comfortable bed, high water pressure in the shower, and easy walking access to wonderful local places like Fair Grinds Coffee, Cafe Degas (superb French food), Liuzza's by the Track (best gumbo & fried oysters), and Lola's (tapas bar). The location allows you to explore Bayou St. John, which has the most gorgeous old homes, as well as Mid-City, which has some great local flavor and some great craft beer/wine bars. Uber rides to City Park, the French Quarter, and the Garden District were affordable and fast. Annie was very responsive to all questions and even allowed us to check in early! Can't recommend this cottage enough!
The cottage is clean and very nice. The owners are most helpful and always available!! It has everything you could possibly need, is close to so many places we wanted to see, and is within walking distance of great restaurants. It's close to City Park and the Quarter...with it's many attractions. We took a great tour of the places where different movies and TV shows have been shot in New Orleans.
We especially loved this place because it was just a couple of blocks away from our son and daughter-in-law's home. We were able to walk there every day. What a treat for us finding such a cool place in the perfect spot. We will be back. We loved every thing about it!

The creole cottage is a wonderful rental. It is in a lovely neighborhood, friendly neighbors and good restaurants within walking distance. Nearby City park is terrific. The cottage was a good base for us to explore New Orleans. It is very well equipped, much more so than other places we've stayed. Highly recommended!
What a wonderful sight upon entering the cottage; it was just like the photos! Warm and inviting with little touches from the kid dishes for those visitors with children, to the cabinet of spices to use when cooking or grilling on the outdoor bbq. Other touches included a Bose system, 2 flat screen tvs and a dvd player. Although with one of New Orleans' famous cemeteries, 6 restaurants, a wine bar plus a coffee shop all within walking distance and the French Quarter only 10-15 minutes away, we hardly spent enough time in the cottage to take advantage of the perks. Santa Fe (southwest/Mexican) and Nonni Mia (get the lasagna) were two of our favs for dinner.
Tip: the bus stop is only half a block away. You can text your stop number and find out exactly when the next bus is scheduled to come. The bus will let you off on Rampart Street in front of Louis Armstrong park (worth a peek to see the statues of famous musicians). Walk across the street and down 1 block to Orleans Street, take a left on Orleans and go down a few blocks and you will be in the heart of the French Quarter: Bourbon Street if you like to party and Royal Street if you're more into street performances and shops. Favorite FQ restaurant was Royal House on the corner of Royal Street and St. Louis. Spinach dip with lump crab meat was to die for and we were lucky enough to see 2 wedding processions, complete with bands, going up Royal on the Friday night we ate there.
I only corresponded with Anne and Charlie by email, but they responded quickly. The only problem we had was that the cleaning person hadn't quite finished everything when we arrived. There were only 2 towels out as the rest, along with the sheets, were in the dryer. So, we had to sort through and fold everything. Anne assured me she would speak to the cleaning person and that this was an isolated incident. Judging by other reviews I believe it was and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the cottage again.
we had a lovely few days stay in this cottage. It is in a lovely area with shops and places to eat nearby. just a short walk to public transport. everything you need this cottage has and the bed is so comfy. would definately stay again if we visit New Orleans. best place to stay if your going for jazz festival as fairgrounds just round the corner.
We stayed 6 nights and the cottage was a great place to relax between outings. The location was great for walking, catching a bus, and trolley. The yard in the back is a great spot for reading or having a glass of wine. Friendly neighbors too.
Located in the Heart of New Orleans, our Cottage is centrally located and just steps off Historic Esplanade Avenue. Our neighborhood is safe and within walking distance of the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park, the Fairgrounds (Jazz Fest and horse racing), and 2 miles from the French Quarter. The neighborhood is a colorful gem and one of the most desirable areas of New Orleans.
We enjoy strolling to dinner or to have cocktails at Cafe Degas, Lola's, Nonna Mia, Liuzza's By the Track, or Santa Fe. You'll notice lots of locals enjoying our Alcee Fortier neighborhood park relaxing and enjoying the weather or maybe playing checkers! Around the corner you will find everything you need - all locally owned grocery stores, a wine store, spa, book store, and coffee shops.
From our cottage, there is no need to rent a car to explore New Orleans. Walk less then one block to catch the Esplanade Avenue/French Quarter bus into the French Quarter or enjoy the 5-block watch down Esplanade Avenue to City Park to catch the streetcar.
Getting around New Orleans by streetcar is a great way to see the city. Walk from the cottage to catch the street car in front of the majestic New Orleans Museum of Art. Streetcars in New Orleans offer and can be paid with exact change when you board. 1, 3, and 31-day unlimited ride Jazzy Passes are also available. The streetcar symbolizes the charm and romance of the City of New Orleans. This streetcar will take you along the scenic route to the CBD and the French Quarter/Aquarium of the Americas. You can then connect to streetcar lines to Uptown New Orleans, Tulane University and the Audubon Zoo. Or transfer to the streetcar that runs along the Mississippi River through the French Quarter. See the Quarter, the St. Louis Cathedral, Cafe du Monde, Jackson Square, and the French Market.
One of the most beautiful and enjoyable areas of New Orleans is City Park. Devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the 1300 Acre New Orleans City Park has been completely restored and expanded. City Park attractions: The New Orleans Museum of Art, Botanical Garden, Sculpture Garden, Boat and Bike Rentals, Tennis Center, Fishing, Picnic Shelters and very soon Miniature Golf! You can even enjoy Beignets and Cafe au Lait at Morning Call in the Park.
Visit their website for details.
Keep your walking shoes on and visit the Audubon Nature Institute's Audubon Zoo (my grandsons love the Cool Zoo sprinklers and water features), Aquarium of the Americas, Insectarium, IMAX Theatre, and the Audubon Park and Golf Course. More info at www.auduboninstitute.org.
Don't miss a visit to The National World War II Museum. The museum presents the American experience during the WWII era with moving personal stories, historic artifacts and powerful interactive displays. Visitors to the museum are encouraged to allocate roughly 2½ to 3 hours to tour the museum. An award-winning 4-D film, Beyond All Boundaries, is an overview of the war on every front. A variety of other multimedia displays are part of the museum's exhibits, notably dozens of video oral histories conducted with veterans by museum staff. The museum includes two restaurants, the American Sector and the Soda Shop, both operated by noted chef John Besh. www.nationalww2museum.org
And then there is....The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival! Imagine leisurely walking two blocks to the entrance to Jazz Fest! No hassles with traffic, parking...pure heaven. After an exciting day at the Fest, walk over to Liuzza's By The Track to continue partying or to one of the restaurants to carry on with the incredible food and beverages. Nothing beats this....HEAVENLY
