Be the master of the island! Bring your family, friends, your fishing poles, and your boat to this getaway! Recommended for 2-3 families with adventurous children or a large group of friends.
Kickback and relax in this cozy 2620 sq ft home on a secluded private island surrounded by 360 degrees of water. The Oak Island is located on the all-sports Lakeville Lake in Oakland County, 25 minutes away from Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills. This home can accommodate up to 10 people with its 3 bedrooms, a sofa pull-out bed, and 2 full bathrooms.
The island is accessible via a private bridge with space for 3 cars on the mainland. A flight of stairs connects the mainland to the bridge, which leads to the island. The water is deep on the North side and is accompanied by a sturdy dock. If you choose to bring your own boat, a public boat launch is nearby.
Come and play in the waters! A 16’ canoe, a metal row boat, and 5 life jackets and oars are provided. Additional kayaks and row boat rentals is nearby. Enjoy swimming in the clear blue waters until noon then climb on shore for an outdoor BBQ picnic. In the afternoon, hop on your boat and go fishing or simply cruising. Finally, watch the sunset reflect off the lake waters in the evening.
Spend some time with nature and hike or bike the trails at the famous Addison Oaks county park. Go for a hunt for Geocaches—there are plenty in the area! Also, try and spot the American bald eagles that hunt by the lake. Take a night off and visit the Oxford Theater to see what’s playing! When it’s dark, cook up a warm bonfire and watch the stars on a clear night.
Outdoor amenities include a gas grill, 2 large picnic tables, and an extra-large campfire pit. The balcony is great for sunbathing, relaxing, and stargazing on. Trout, Pike, and Largemouth Bass are aplenty on this lake.
Electricity, air conditioning, cable TV, internet WiFi, clean drinking water, hot water shower, and wash/dryer are available on site. The house has 2 TVs, 2 DVD players, and an old-school SNES video game system. The kitchen includes a dishwasher, stove, two large ovens, and a microwave. A large grocery store is just a 15 minute drive away, in Oxford.
We discovered this gem of a property in 2010 and purchased it a year later. After a year of renovations and updates, we sought to share the island experience with others. We have made many precious memories on this island with our friends, and we hope you do too!
Helen/Steven purchased this house in 2011
Thank you for your hospitality. We had a magnificent time! Everything was just perfect. We sat on the balcony, had a nice breakfast and lunch overlooking the lake, and canoed around in the afternoon. What a setting! It was better than the pictures. Congratulations on your year-long rental. Thank you very much for being there when we arrived on Saturday. That was above and beyond the call of duty.
This was a great island house. Plenty big for us. Our dogs had a great time, could run free and they mostly stayed out of trouble. Bring your own bath towels and hand towels as well. Steps leading to the bridge are a little tricky, especially when hauling a dog crate. Recommend you except offer of a Bellhop, if you have lots of gear. Overall a great place to stay, would recommend to others and would return as well. Thanks!!
We had such a wonderful stay. Thank you Helen for being so responsive to every question I had leading up to the rental, and even the couple of questions I had while there. I stay in a lot of hotels and generally don't get the level of customer service that I received from you! The property is BEAUTIFUL. Surrounded by water, and the sun sets right over the lake. The large kitchen island was great for preparing meals. The gas grill came very much in handy, as did the fire pit. The house has everything you need, and it's huge, and very well laid out for a large group. There are proper beds for 4 couples, but then also tons of space to use pull out couches, air mattresses, etc. 12+ is not undoable. There were a couple of air mattresses in my closet, but we did not need them (we had 7 people). We thought the two friends sharing the bedroom that has two beds would be at a disadvantage over the private bedrooms...not at all! It's like a penthouse up there, with a private bathroom, kitchenette, and private balcony / deck! Having two full bathrooms in the house was a huge plus. The row boat and canoe were a lot of fun. The lake is WONDERFUL, and not all that crowded / noisy (unlike Lake Orion, for example, which is a noisy mess on weekends). We walked to the Lakeville Inn Tavern...it is that close (just under a mile). We had great campfires in the pit. We had nice swims (in some parts it is a little rocky...bring water shoes so you don't have to worry, but if you forget, Helen has some sandals waiting for you!). The land is plenty big enough for yard games, Frisbee, etc. I really can't say enough about how wonderful the house / property / lake / owner / customer service are. I can't wait to come back.
With 9 people including our children and their friends we had plenty of space and lots to do! Sleeping accommodations were very comfortable, multiple rooms allowed for privacy, fishing was fantastic as everyone could spread out and find their own spot and the kitchen was filled with many conveniences to cook just about any meal you could imagine! We enjoyed the picnic tables, fire pit and gas grill in the evening. 2 porches made for a great view of the lake. The house decor is outdated, but, we enjoyed the character of the home. It was clean and well kept. The canoe, dock and row boat made for added adventure. Our dog came with us and he loved being able to roam the island freely with the kids. I recommend this beautiful spot! Shopping, restaurants and bait shops were close giving you the feel you were away but near modern conveniences if necessary.
Had a great stay on the island! We had sufficient space with 8 adults to all have our own privacy in the cottage, as it is quite large. Everything was provided from camping chairs for around the huge fire pit, to towels and bed linens.... all we had to do was bring food. Firewood was even provided. A great place to take in some sun, relax in the shade, or get out on the paddle boat or canoe to do some fishing. I would recommend this to anyone looking to getaway whether it be a family, a group of friends, or a couple. Owners were a pleasure to deal with as well.
When you're done playing with the lake, you can enjoy the nearby county park, Addison Oaks. Addison Oaks was recently named one of the Top 10 best family-friendly places to hike by MetroParent Magazine and is a must-visit.
