Families will love this quiet location on a private Island on Long Lake in Northern Maine. A wide causeway to the Island provides easy access to the Island. This quiet lake is perfect for boating, water skiing, jet skiing or kayaking. I have a set of "training" water skiis for children ages 5 to 9. Long Lake is known for the largest land locked salmon and lake trout fishing.
You have access to the canoe and two paddle boards (the kind you stand on). There are several water toys for the kids. When on land, you can enjoy badminton, volleyball, or relax in a hammock with a good book.
The cottage sleeps 7 comfortably. On the first level is the fully equipped kitchen with all appliances including microwave, Keurig coffee maker, dishwasher etc... It has 20 foot ceilings with huge beams open to the loft above. We have a washer and dryer. The great room has a wood burning stove and TV, DVD player, new sofa with recliners built in and two other recliners. Master bed is on the first level with Queen size bed with a fabulous pillow-top mattress and down pillows. In the loft is a king bed (can be separated for two twins) that offers some privacy. In the open loft area are three additional twin beds and a half bath is also in the loft. All beds have good comfortable mattresses with a coordinated look of matching sheets and comforters. On the screen porch you will find everyone's favorite...a bed that is suspended from the ceiling that sways ever so gently so you can watch a movie on the TV with DVD in that room, or listen to the loons lull you to sleep. There is also a rattan table and chair set on the screen porch.
Outside on the upper deck is another table and chairs set with more beautiful rattan comfortable chairs. The lower deck has a hot tub.
There are four tables, one in the kitchen seats six, on the screen porch (seats 4), on the deck (seats 4) and the outside picnic table which seats 10.
An outside shower is enclosed for privacy and has hot and cold water. The lot is flat for volleyball or badminton and has a three person bench swing, a hot tub, many toys for kids including an ATV for 4 7 year olds. We have several adirondack chairs to relax on the water front.
The kitchen is fully equipped and the rental includes all bed linens and towels as well as beach towels for the hot tub and lake.
One last thing I should mention, because Maine lakes are knows for mosquitoes and black flies, you will not have many (if any) mosquitoes or black flies because the Island does not have forestry, which is where they nest. The center of the Island is a potato field with blossoming pink or white flowers depending on the color of the potatoes they plant. Sometimes they plant wheat or barley. This does not attract mosquitoes or black flies. Also, there is almost always a breeze because it's an Island, and the breeze also keeps flying insects away.
The perfect warm summers offer temperatures to enjoy the outdoors. So, put your feet up, grab a book, gaze at the beautiful lake and enjoy the gorgeous sunsets.
The clean air and lack of pollutiom shows off the magnificent sky in the evenings of stars including the milky way and occasionally even the Northern Lights can be seen.
I just re-read the heading on this and noticed that it says 'four bedrooms', which is not true. One bed is in the master bdrm, the king bed upstairs has 3/4 wall privacy in the loft along with three twin beds in the loft. The other bed is on the screen porch. I'm sorry that I cannot change the heading because I have described that many beds, and somehow I got a '4 bedroom' heading. I also want to clarify that there is more than one bathroom, which it also claims in the heading. There is one bathroom with shower, toilet, vanity, washer and dryer on the main level. A half bath in the loft and an enclosed outside shower with hot and cold water. I only rent this cottage for two weeks each summer.
We bought this cottage to escape the heat and humidity of Virginia summers and have enjoyed the warm days, and cool nights at wonderful Long Lake in northern Maine. I use this as my summer home and only started renting it a few years ago. I only rent it out twice a summer when I travel to other locations.. The few families who have rented had a great time and I am encouraged to rent two weeks again this summer.
Owner/Property Manager purchased this cottage in 2004
Safely walk or bike around the 3 mile Island which has a 15 mph speed limit. Fish from the dock. Summers with typically 70 - 80 degree daytime, 50 - 55 degree nights with no humidity. Island breezes, great neighbors, Breathtaking sunsets. The Island has approximately 30 other cottages. My lakefront has gradual entry and a dock. The lot is an open and fairly flat acre to play badminton ot volleyball.. There is a hammock tied to birch trees overlooking the lake and several adirondack chairs along with a bench swing for two. I only rent for two weeks each summer
Lakefront with beautiful view. No dangerous wildlife on the Island. The wood in this yellow pine cottage just glows by lights in the evenings. Kayaks, paddleboards, and canoe for you to use as well as many lake toys for the kids. Outside firepit, hot tub, suspended bed, on screen porch, close to restaurants and grocer. It's the best of the best if you want great summer weather in a peaceful, safe and serene location.
Great place. The sunsets from the hot tub were awesome and we all wanted the swinging bed on the screened porch. The kids had a great time with the jet ski we rented, and enjoyed the kayaks you have. We rode the bikes around the island daily. Your cottage was perfect for our family. We will definitely be back.
This was a wonderful property to stay in. The owner of the property could not be more helpful. The furnishing were well maintained and the area around the camp was just beautiful. I was so happy to be able to rent this property.
My family & I rented this wonderful cozy cottage. It was beautiful and super quiet. The only problem was, we drove up during a hurricane, so the first few days were super windy. There were tons of games (we have a 13 year old girl). Then the weather cleared, & it was magical. The lake was clear (I recommend water shoes..there's a lot of rocks), and we had tons of fun on the kayaks. It was an incredibly memorable vacation & we look forward to staying there again.
Our family will never forget the quiet peaceful nights on the gentle lake, Wonderful sunset, and great neighbors. Relaxing in the hot tub during a cool summer night was perfect. The local towns were quaint and friendly. A wonderful escape! We would very much love to return again next summer!
This is 'on golden pond' at it's best. Quiet and perfectly relaxing. If you want to be active, take out the 2 person kayaks ( we have 2) paddle board (we have two), or use our canoe on the lake. We have a hot tub overlooking the lake for those of you who want a more relaxing water experience. There is a great restaurant on the lake where you can boat for lunch or dinner. Another restaurant only 10 minutes away, with a spectacular view overlooking the entire 13 mile lake as well as a few other restaurants locally. Whale watching is an hour and a half away. Canada is less than a half hour's drive. The small grocer across the lake from us has a large lobster bin where he will cook, and crack them for you to take home for your own lobster feed. The larger grocery store is a 15 minute drive, and farm fresh eggs are just off the Island. You may even see a moose driving to and fro. This is a paradise that few know of. I provide many lake toys including 2 kayaks and a canoe. Try lakefront living and make wonderful family memories to cherish.
