Top Floor 2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, 4-6 Sleeps Condo Right Above The Pool
About Rick Lawrence
We live on island, on site full time. We go back to the states to take care of some on-going issues and to visit our grandchildren. We are both retired officially now but working still. With rental units there is always something to do. My husband was a landlord back in the states for over 30 years so he is well versed in maintenance issues. I am a retired teacher and find myself volunteering or doing some contract work with projects on island. I also manage the listings and work with our potential and current tenets.
Rick Lawrence purchased this Condo in 2004
Why Rick Lawrence chose Bolongo
When we started looking for a retirement home, we knew we wanted to be on the water preferably sand and surf and in a warm year round climate. Continuing to be part of the United States postal system and a U.S. citizen sealed the deal. We came to St. Thomas and found all that. When we found Watergate Villas East , we found the perfect spot for us. It was as close as you can get to the water in a condo setting on island, it had Bolongo Bay Beach Resort next door with amenities , Mim's on site. So if we wanted, we could just walk to dinner or to get a drink without any fuss or hassle. There is an almost constant breeze so we could keep doors open and enjoy the sights, the sounds and the smells of living on the sea. On the south side of the island, we have the Caribbean Sea bringing a constant array of gentle waves. In fact, as I sit at my computer now, I can glance up and see the sea through my door and hear the waves. We love watching the hummingbirds, the banana quits (locally known as sugar birds or yellow breasts) and other birds and wildlife mostly iguanas, lizards, skinks and sea creatures. My husband is PADI certified and I love snorkeling. St. Thomas Dive shop is at the resort next door and I have the bay to snorkel in with sightings of rays and sea turtles as well as colorful local fish. It is home.
What makes this Condo unique
I hate being redundant but probably as far as I am concerned and what I have heard from guests our most unique benefit would be our location. We are right on the water, south side, warmer Caribbean versus north, colder Atlantic. Our buildings 16 and 17 are very convenient to the pool, sand and water, as well as Mim's on one side and Iggie's on the other. I wake up every morning with the sky colors announcing the approach of dawn. (I have an extensive collection of sunrise, sunsets photos, my husband and children tease me about the volume of photos but every day is different and gorgeous.) I walk every morning in the sand with the waves by my side , the breeze blowing my hair and the sun on my shoulders to the Bolongo resort office to pick up my morning paper. I come home and have my coffee and paper on the deck right above the pool with the palms and Caribbean just feet from that. Life is good.

Bolongo Bay condo
Overall the posting was accurate. The unit is a bit dated but clean and in good working order. Approx 12-15 minutes drive to town. Owner was very responsive to emails and other inquiries. We were allowed a late check out since the unit didn't need immediate turnover. We would stay there again.
Great location, views were stunning!
Would stay here again, stocked with everything you need!
Thank you for your review. Please visit again
The property was in the prrfect location for us. The unit had everything we needed. As others have stated, unit is dated, but functions. The washer eas not working from our first day and did not get repaired during that week. I usually try to was linens that can be done prior to departing.
We rented a car, which i would not do again from this location. Fare to Red Hook or Charlotte Amilie was about $7-8 per person.
I would stay here again. The views and patio were awesome.
Glad to hear that you will return. sorry about the washer. Parts are on order but not yet delivered.
Our family of 6 totally enjoyed our stay! Richard and Linda are excellent hosts in providing everything needed for a pleasant stay. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen of dishes and cookware as we prepared many meals there. Also appreciated all the beach towels. The furnishings were comfortable. Yes, the unit could use a little updating, but that didn’t affect the nice time we had here. Loved the big balcony overlooking the pool. Th beach access next door is great as well as Iggies restaurant, with good food and live music. Would definitely recommend staying here!
Great view of the bay. Pool is just downstairs. Unit is in need of some repair but we realize hard to keep up with the ocean breeze. We left the door walls open to hear the waves. Unit has everything you would need as mentioned in other reviews. No dishwasher but not a problem. Loved having washer and dryer. Owner very helpful with mapping out places to go. Make sure you get his email explains how to get there and how to get in. We made it there anyway. Good thing they were home. Would stay again.
Great value and awesome sunrises!
While this unit isn't newly renovated, it was comfortable and met our larger family needs. The owner, Rick and his wife were wonderful hosts and offered area suggestions and checked to ensure we had everything we needed. The view from the property is spectacular and the newly renovated pool is beautiful. We also enjoyed the two restaurants within walking distance.
You are only about fifteen minutes from the Red Hook car and passenger ferry terminal, there are some wonderful sugar mill and plantation ruins to explore on St. John. Don't miss Skinny Legs or Woody's while you are there.
Back on St. Thomas, Coral World on Coki beach is an aquatic center with lots of opportunities to learn more about our local sea life. Feed the fish on Coki beach with dog biscuits and have them eat right out of your hands. Mountain Top has in the last few years reopened in a larger venue having any souvenir item you might want plus still serving their famous Banana Daiquiri. Newer adventures include a zip-line, water-propelled jet pack, stand-up paddle-boarding, and ice carvings at Magic Ice.
There are numerous opportunities to go sailing, power boating, exploring other cultures through music, art, dance and food. There area art galleries, fine dining, shopping, souvenir and serious. Some of the best bargains in electronics, watches and fine jewelry are available in our duty free shops. Liquor prices are lower than you will find them stateside or in Canada. So much to see and do and so little time. One of the most often heard comments from tenets who are leaving, 'I'm not ready to go home.' You are always welcome to come back as many times as you want. We love sharing our island and getting to know our visitors and make new friends.
