About Lisa MacEwen
My name is Lisa MacEwen and this land has been in my family for over 200 years. I grew up down the road and this property was the site of a Homestead, built in 1805, by my Great Great Grandparents and later lived in by my Great Aunt Elizabeth MacEwen. I live in Toronto with my 2 children. I built this home in 2012 to enjoy a little peace of heaven for ourselves each year for several weeks in the summer.
Lisa MacEwen purchased this Bungalow in 2012
Why Lisa MacEwen chose New Dominion
This is a special place with some of the oldest Chestnut and Linden trees in PEI, dating back to 1914, (which my Great Uncle brought back from California, to plant, before he headed of the WW1, where he was MIA and never came home. His memorial is at Vimy Ridge; France). After unsuccessful attempts to save the old Homestead, I decided to demolish it and built a brand new modern, modest but spacious and cozy home. I was able to save some pieces from the old Homestead that were incorporated in the decor and construction to give this new place some traditional character. Although I own other waterfront land on the Westriver, I chose to build here, as this land has a special, tranquil and peaceful energy to it, with a view! Every time I come home here, I don't want to leave!
What makes this Bungalow unique
The water on the South Shore is warmer and safer than the tourist popular Northshore. Canoe Cove, 5 minutes away, is one of the most popular south shore beaches known for its safe water, tide pools and red cliffs. You can also have you own private access to the West River in front of the property where you can explore by digging clams, oysters and mussels. The property also has 2 hammocks, 4 adirondack chairs around a fire pit, soceer and volleyball/badminton nets, two tire swings, swing, horseshoe set.
No smoking in the premises.

Appreciate the quick response re blocked eaves tough. Too bad mosquitoes were so bad
Really liked the location and closeness to Charlottetown - far enough away to feel remote and on our own, yet close enough to enjoy quick run into town. Also most of the main attractions on the island were within an hour of the cottage. The only issue was mosquitos - even with citronella candles and coils we could not sit outside after 5pm - but I understand this was an issue throughout the island. Mornings when still cold, I could enjoy about 3 hours bug free
Peaceful Family Getaway
This is a beautiful property. Very well maintained, well stocked with everything you need and very clean. Lots of privacy and beautiful peaceful views. Lisa is very helpful and answered all our questions in a timely manner. The location is great. We had a wonderful week at this property. We only had 2 issues during our stay. We did not have wifi for 6 of the 7 days because of a main line that went down. When we notified them they did respond right away and tried to help but it wasn't resolved until the last day. We did get a refund of $50 to cover the cost of extra data used. The mosquitoes were terrible the whole week we were there. This is likely a seasonal thing and hard to control. I was disappointed to not be able to take advantage of the gorgeous outdoor space as much as we would have liked. We did manage to have several campfires in the firepit and the smoke did help keep the mosquitoes away. The beach is a short walk down a path from the house and our kids thoroughly enjoyed exploring this everyday. Overall this property is great and if you can stay there when the mosquitoes are not as bad I would highly recommend.
Thanks for your honest review. Again, so sorry about the WIFI, and really wished it had been fixed sooner for you. I will also be taking up the issue with Bell Aliant for taking so long to repair the line. I arrived for my own summer vacation the day of your departure. Thanks so much for how clean and tidy you left the property. I really appreciated it. I bought 8 citronella plants, and citronella torches to help with the mosquitos. I also bought a 'smoker' that seems to help as well, so it has been more tolerable the past two weeks. The torches and the smoker are available for guests to use. I hope to have a better solution next year and intend to screen-in my veranda. Mosquitos have always been an issue on the island. All the best to you and your family.
Excellent Property! Would Rent Again!
Our stay at the Westville Vista was beyond excellent. The location is close to the city but far enough away from the hustle and bustle that you can relax and unwind if you wanted to. The house's interior was super cute, amenities worked great, and bed's were super comfortable. All the cooking utensils you could ever need were provided. The view of the water is amazing! The fire pit was excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed this feature every night of our vacation. Also highly recommend taking a relaxing swing in the hammocks.
Thank you Lisa!!
I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and I hope I have the chance to host you again. I am really looking forward to my vacation at home, Westville Vista, this summer. I love waking up and looking at the water...so peaceful. Have a wonderful summer.
Amazing place to stay!
Lisa's cottage is fabulous. It is a home away from home. It had everything that we needed for our long weekend away. We will be back:)
I am so glad you enjoyed my property. Please do come back and stay a little longer! Have a wonderful summer.
We drove down for a family road trip from Toronto and we had an amazing time here, the home was so clean when we arrived and the house was fully set up with everything we could need. Very cozy set up overall and loved the set up, the living room sofa overlooks a beautiful landscape outside of the walk out doors which is where we spent most of our time in the house. I would definitely come back here again the next time we go down which is hopefully soon.
Thanks for your review. I am so glad that Westville Vista worked for you and your family members. We certainly hope we can host you again. :)
Nice home in the quiet country
Great location. Easy access to main roads to go sight seeing. Close to amenities, but still felt like we had our own quite hideaway in the country.
Thanks so much Dawn. I am glad you enjoyed it. I look forward to hosting you and your family again.
1152 sq. foot executive summer home set on over 2 acres of land on the picturesque West River of rolling hills and water. New construction home in 2012, has 3 bedrooms, kitchen with eating island and great room, full bathroom and additional vanity, covered veranda, on-site laundry, fully furnished with tasteful indoor and outdoor furniture. 15 minutes to Charlottetown, 30 minutes to Cavendish and 5 minutes to Canoe Cove Beach, 3 golf courses and grocery, restaurants, gas and spirits shopping. (please note that the mapping is not quite accurate, the home is closer to the water than it appears in VRBO mapping and the community is New Dominion).
