About Mrs. Ginny Powers

I currently live in Fayetteville, Georgia. I work for the family business. I don't have as much time to spend my weekends away as I once had, but I enjoy the lodge on the odd weekend I can get away.

Why Mrs. Ginny Powers chose Tennessee

My parents built this lodge 20+ years ago as a family vacation home. After leaving the Navy my parents found themselves looking for a close to home getaway near the Ocoee River. After years of camping, two children and a lot of hard work they built the Sugarloaf Lodge. As a family we have enjoyed the lodge with friends and family. Recently we made the decision to open our home up to other large families and groups to share our relaxing retreat.

What makes this house unique

This is the place to get away from it all.

Good vacation rental house

  • 5 of 5

It was a great vacation for us. The view from the balcony was wonderful. The house was neat and clean except for sofas. We carried our cups, plates and everything necessary with us, but they had everything in the house. However, we were four families (couples) and we were expecting 4 bedrooms, but actually there were 3 full bedrooms and a bunk beds room which does not have any privacy coz there were no door.

Overall, we had some great time in the house. I would recommend others to rent this house if they ever go to see the fall color in Tennessee.

Great space with awesome view if you have a large group.

  • 4 of 5

Our group of 18 was expecting a cramped cabin with limited sleeping space. Turned out that it was very spacious. Everyone was happy with the accommodations. We even had three people sleep in ENO hammocks on the upper deck to wake up to the beautiful view of the mountains. Kitchen was well equipped with pot and pans for cooking. It's central location to the Ocoee is great if you are planning on a weekend rafting trip. I would stay here again in the future.

Amazing views, just what you need for a big group

  • 5 of 5

The lodge was perfect for our group of 20. The views were unbeatable, I'll never forget the early mornings on that huge porch! Don't be intimidated by the driveway, with a little planning and a little confidence, you'll have no problem arriving. The kitchen and bathrooms are well equipped, the washing machine is a huge plus, and the pool table provided lots of entertainment. The lodge gives your stay a welcome rustic touch too which completes the mountain experience: limited cell phone reception, and a few basic mattresses.

The manager is super helpful and accommodating. The lodge is in close proximity to all the activities this area has to offer: rafting, boating, hiking, lounging, you name it! This place is an awesome value for a mountain get-away! I can't wait to return!

Excellent cozy stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a family trip and it was an excellent location. The place is very cozy. The wrap around porches with hammocks and rocking chairs were one of the best features. We had friends staying near by and we hosted a cook out for my brothers birthday. There is plenty of room. Our friends spent more time at our place on the porch in the rocking chairs and hammocks. Cherri and Michael were awesome. They called to check on us when we arrived, we very much appreciated this. We will be coming back. Cellphone service is limited and there is no cable, this made our vacation much more enjoyable.

Family and friends get a way

  • 4 of 5

The Sugarloaf Lodge was great! Plenty of space for our girls weekend! We had 12 females from 1-70! Plenty of beds and bathrooms. Driveway was a little difficult for our vans due to previous rains. View was breathtaking! Great weekend with lots of laughter!

Our lodge is located on the south side of Sugarloaf Mountain just 12 miles from the Georgia line and less than a mile from the Kings Slouth Boat Ramp into Lake Ocoee (aka Parksville Lake). Whether you want to sit the day away on the porch reading a good book or exploring the attractions in nearby Ocoee, Tennessee and in the North Georgia and North Carolina Mountains; Sugarloaf Lodge is a great location. Whitewater Rafting outfitters are available right off the main highway less than 10 minutes away. Want to spend the day hiking, you have easy access to the Cherokee National Forest by walking out the back door or taking a short drive. Want to enjoy the day on the lake you can bring your own boat or contact the Ocoee Marina Inn to rent one for the day. With easy access to the main highways you can get to Cleveland, Tennessee with a short drive. Cleveland has lots of restaurants, a cinema, shopping and anything else you might need. Want to make a day trip to Chattanooga, its just 35 miles away. Enjoy the mall, shopping, beautiful Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, Tennessee Aquarium and more. Want to explore further north enjoy the scenic drive over the mountains to Murphy, North Carolina or Tellico Plains, Tennessee.

Some of our families best memories come from Whitewater Rafting down the Ocoee River, hiking in the Cherokee National Forest and spending the evenings on the front porch swing and enjoy the starry night.
