A family home in Ferndale, the Victorian Village, California
- German, Spanish
About Marilyn Benemann
We, Carlos and Marilyn Benemann, by mistake took the right turn off Highway 101 across Fernbridge 36 years ago, and have been in love with Ferndale ever since. We own a two-story Craftsman house, built in 1912, right across the yard from your Francis Street Home. We owned antiquarian bookstores in Ferndale and Eureka for 25 years, until Marilyn retired. Carlos continues his career as a California court certified Spanish and German interpreter. We love talking with our guests about books, foreign travel, horses and the good life in Humboldt County. Francis Street Home was built as a retirement dream home for Carlos’ parents. We now want to share it with you.
Marilyn Benemann purchased this House in 1999

The comfort of Ferndale
The home had good amenities and a comfortable atmosphere. The grandchildren enjoyed the outdoors.
We thoroughly enjoyed having this family. Our grand-daughter got in little play time with their grand-daughter, and we enjoyed having this nice family. We try to keep the house welcoming and enjoyable for everyone, and Ferndale is definitely a family town.
Beautiful spot and home
Very nice property, short walk to restaurants and shops. Very convenient to the ocean, and a great drive away from the Lost Coast.
Great house to stay with family. Close to shopping, hiking, beaches and fun!
Very nice place to stay.
We will stay again
Secluded Among The Trees
Spacious well-kept home nestled in the trees. The kitchen is bright, spacious and well-stocked. The patio is great for outdoor dining or for morning coffee. The house itself is tucked in away from the street which adds to the private feel of the property.
The hosts are gracious and welcoming and offered great suggestions about what to see and where to eat while in the area.
This was our first time in the area and we can't wait to come back and see more.
It was a pleasure to have these guests. I am glad they enjoyed the house and town, and the spectacular north coast of California. I certainly hope they are able to come again.
Our stay was very nice. Property is beautiful, the house itself is like a lovely step back in time. It is nicely stocked with necessities and was clean. It was quiet And peaceful. We had a wonderful time during our stay. Marilyn was very friendly and accommodating also. It's obvious she cares about her guests. What a great find!
Thank you for the lovely review. This family drove the length of California to revisit Ferndale where they lived and worked years ago, and I am very glad they found our vacation home. Ferndale itself is a step back in time, and away from the pressures of hectic modern life. Thanks again for stopping by.
Ferndale is a lovely small Victorian town with the entire town listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Access to Redwood National and State Parks is just a short drive. The drive along the Lost Coast over Petrolia through Rockefeller Forest is described as the most scenic drive in the world. The best description of Ferndale's quiet, picturesque atmosphere is 'Brigadoon'.
