This peaceful home is a true retreat with wildlife such as humming birds, eagles, deer, turkey, squirrel and lots of fish such as crappie, trout, bass, catfish and more. The best sand bass fishing in the area is right in your back yard!

This quiet home sits in the midst of thousands of acres of corps of engineers land. The road is paved all the way to the house with 900 feet solid rock drive to the home. A koi pond with water fall and lilies welcome you to a place of serenity, relaxation and peace.

This beautiful home I call, Bending Waters, is nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, surrounded with dogwood forests, hilly terrain and beautiful foliage from spring through fall with the Illinois River coming through the back yard of the wooded acreage. I know you will enjoy your stay as you soak in as much of the relaxation and fun that you have time for while remembering what else there is to offer that can be experienced in your next trip to our home, Bending Waters!

Illinois River:

Our back yard is on the scenic clear waters of the Illinois River providing opportunity for fun, adventure and photography! There are many outfitters along the river that provide (or you may bring your own) kayak, canoe or raft to enjoy 70 miles of floating where you will observe scenery of the Ozark hills, high bluffs, rocky islands, medley of wildlife and dense forests by way of the river. shuttle services are available through most of the outfitters.

Fishing:

Year-round fishing is good with black bass, white bass, striped bass, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, bream and walleye, with rainbow and brown trout stocked in the Illinois River below the dam. Three heated fishing docks offer winter fun for crappie fishing. Lake Tenkiller is popular for fishing tournaments. Fishing is a year-round activity with each season producing its own fun! More than 70 species of fish have been found in the waters. Classes are available for fly-fishing, lure tying and guided fishing trips.

Lake Tenkiller:

This peaceful home is just .5 mile from Lake Tenkiller which is the clearest body of water in Oklahoma. It is nearly 13,000 acres of water and over 130 miles of shoreline. This beautiful lake provides a wide variety of boating activities that cover sailing, water skiing, wakeboarding, inner tubing, and cruising, lounging, fishing and jet skiing. There are many secluded coves to anchor into and enjoy a day on the lake. The sunsets and clear night skies are perfect for stargazing and romance. There are full service marinas on the lake that provide fuel, snacks, and swimwear and water toys. Several marinas rent pontoons, ski boats and wave runners. Four of the marinas serve as floating restaurants.

Scuba Diving:

Scuba Park is a diver’s dream with clear waters from 8-30 feet. You will see sunken vehicles, planes, boats, remains of homesteads and artifacts left behind before the lake was formed that give divers a glimpse of history. The lakes underwater terrain ranges from sloping hills to rock cliffs, and the water goes up to 165 feet in places. Some divers go spearfishing! Two diving pro shops are located on the lake offering training, certification and equipment rental.

Hunting:

Approximately 2,590 acres of project land are licensed to the Oklahoma Dept. of Wildlife conservation for a State Game Management Area. Principal game species include whitetail deer, bobwhite quail, wild turkey, mourning dove, duck, geese, cottontail rabbit and squirrel.

Golfing:

Cherry Springs Golf Club, a scenic championship course, is located north of Tenkiller Lake on the southern edge of Tahlequah. Tenkiller Golf Club’s championship course plays through a hardwood forest on the southeast corner of Tenkiller Lake.

Nature and Hiking:

There is a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for bird watching and wildlife observation. You will see migratory geese, ducks and other waterfowl. Winter time is an excellent time to view bald eagles, bobcats and whitetail deer. White pelicans come in the fall. Elk, deer, turkeys, bobcats, squirrels, bald eagles, rabbits and owls can be seen. Spectacular rock formations, huge boulders, high bluffs and natural springs are enjoyed. Programs from bird watching to tree identification to animal habitat are scheduled activities. Colorado meets Oklahoma

  • 5 of 5

Every year my family located through-out Oklahoma and Colorado meet at Bending Waters for the 4th of July. It is such a wonderful bonding experience for all, that it was observed that the younger generation now coming up, think the 4th of July IS Bending waters....While the rest (aka older) of us have a more diverse 4th of July memory bank, none can recall one enjoyed as much as those spent at Bending Waters.

Thanks Ken for keeping the property in such great shape that it is a respite for all who visit, regardless of age!

Where Eagles Fly...

  • 5 of 5

We didn't ever want to leave! We were captivated by the stunning, colorful Autumn view from every over-sized window. This spacious home is literally built high in the trees -- where eagles fly. We were astounded when a pair of American bald eagles landed just outside the bedroom window. Unique design features of the home, include: spacious, professional kitchen, enormous windows, gorgeous custom cabinets throughout, custom shower (amazing!), three family areas, large dining room, palatial master suite, and romantic double-sided fireplace. We enjoyed plenty of room for everyone. Favorite memory for the kids: hiking down the cliff to the river where they learned to skip rocks. Favorite memory for the adults: peace and quiet. Best vaca -- EVER! Thank you for an unforgettable Thanksgiving holiday.

Wonderful stay at Bending Waters

  • 5 of 5

The Bending Waters property is absolutely breathtaking! The views of the Illinois river are exceptional, waking up every morning to a variety of beautiful birds (including hummingbirds and redheaded woodpeckers) and trout swimming in the river was very peaceful and relaxing. The interior of the home was spacious, well appointed and clean. There is lots to do in the area...I highly recommended Bending Waters if you're looking for a relaxing vacation.

Great place to relax and enjoy nature

  • 5 of 5

5 Stars! Wonderful setting with a beautiful home. Ken was great to work with and the house was perfect for our gathering. We found the house in excellent condition, nicely decorated and the furniture plentiful and comfortable. Ken provided a local contact, although we did not have a need, it was nice to know someone was close by if we needed anything. Having two bedrooms on the main floor was perfect for our guests that don't do stairs well. The verity of gathering places made it easy to find time away or bring everyone together. The Kayaks are a bargain and strongly recommended for every group. As stated the house does not have Wifi. I brought a portable hotspot in case we really needed it ... but we didn't. Great way to keep the kids on a technology break and enjoying the great outdoors for a change. My family uses a variety of phone providers. Most had great reception, those with AT&T did not always have service but you could move around and pick it up if needed. The weather forecast is really for Tahlequah and we found that it may or may not match the weather at the house. We had storms in the forecast that that never made it to the river. So don't let that influence your kayaking decisions. The river is perfect for beginners or children with adult supervision to learn how to manipulate and balance a kayak. The boat dock is very near by and provided a great place to watch others kayak as you cool off in the water. Since the river is also a great place to fish, I would recommend river shoes for anyone swimming or wading in the river or near the boat ramp. We used the grill on the deck to for most of the cooking and found everything we needed in the house. Although we had a full house, we never felt cramped, the AC was able to keep up easily and there was plenty of room for everyone. We found some of the trees perfect for hanging hammocks and let the kids sleep outside. On our last night we built a fire in the fire pit and enjoyed s'mores. There is a bench near the fire pit, but we also brought lots of chairs. I would recommend this location for any family, large or small.
