About Andrea Villegas
I'm a Colombian-born interior designer who, after spending 30 years living and working in New York, decided to return to the place I love most, Cartagena de Indias. This house is my vision of paradise, a sanctuary for those looking to bask in the magical realism that is La Casa Que Besa el Mar.
Andrea Villegas purchased this Villa in 1999
Why Andrea Villegas chose Walled City of Cartagena
I love the view of the colonial wall and enjoy the daily sunsets over the ocean. Cartagena is a beautiful walking town, so a car is seldom needed. I love the perfect weather all year round, but the most beautiful part of Cartagena is the warmth of the people and their unrelenting hospitality. The town is a charming colonial gem with top restaurants and a fun night life. In just 45 minutes y boat you can find yourself in the most amazing white sand beaches and turquoise waters. The house is very well located, and is walking distance to all that Cartagena has to offer.
What makes this Villa unique
The view is extraordinary. Beautiful sunsets. A full-time staff of four, including a cook ready to satisfy your taste for Latin fare and anticipate your every wish. Walking distance form all best restaurants and night life. Just a 15 minute taxi ride from the airport.

A paradise within a paradise
The love and enthusiasm that went into creating this home is apparent from the moment you walk in. It is beautiful. The staff is genuinely kind and was always there to help without being on top of you. Andrea the owner was always reachable. Congratulations to her and her team. My only complaint is that the house is so magnificent it makes you not want to leave!
Thank you so much for your beautiful review. It was a pleasure to host you.
A gem in the heart of Cartagena with outstanding private roof top terrace and unparalleled sea views
This is a beautiful property located in downtown old Cartagena, overlooking the fortified walls and moments away from the heart of the town. The house is very comfortable (beds, air con etc.) as you would expect of a property of this standard, but what makes this property unique is the "concierge" service that the host, Andrea, provides to her guests. She has a fabulous team of four at the house (housekeeper, chef etc.) , but based on correspondence before our stay, everything was personalised for our visit. She made reservations in restaurants, organised taxis, visits to beach clubs, agreed the meals beforehand, likes/dislikes in terms of food, ensuring that we had a very relaxing stay as everything had been prearranged. An absolute necessity over Christmas and New Year as this is a very busy time to visit and we were a party of 12!
Thank you Andrea and team for ensuring our family had a wonderful Christmas. We had a brilliant time.
We celebrated by wife's birthday in Cartagena with our close friends and the house was the perfect place to stay. We utilized all of the bedrooms which all had AC, very comfortable beds and decorated like an art gallery. The master bedroom had the most amazing views and a comfy hammock to take a well deserved afternoon nap. The rooftop area easily held our group of 9 for happy hour and was perfect to unwind from a long day or gear up for a night out. The living areas were also perfect including the very large table for breakfast/dinner. There is also a very nice pool on the first floor that we utilized and another living area on the first floor. Every wall is covered with interesting and beautiful art influenced by Latin America and Southeast Asia. Andrea was very helpful during the entire process including stocking the house with drinks, coordinating breakfast each day, facilitating a boat trip to the Rosario islands as well as dinner reservations. She is very kind and easy to work with. The staff at the house were so kind and helpful. They were very discrete and they would turn down your room for night, clean up after drinks and make the most delicious food. The breakfasts and dinner we had were some of the best food we had in Cartagena. Overall, I would highly recommend this house. They provide a very low stress experience so you can enjoy lovely Cartagena.
Beautiful home and a great host!
We stayed at Andrea’s home for 4 days. Andrea was extremely helpful and responsive in addressing any question we had leading up to our trip. Upon arriving, the whole group was impressed by the home. You feel very comfortable and welcome as soon as you walk in. The staff is great and you cannot beat the view of the ocean from the rooftop. Everything was very clean and decorated beautifully. The next time we return to Cartagena, will definitely stay there again!
Thank you so much Jonathan for your review.
Come again soon.
Phenomenal service staff and location
This is by far the most amazing home we have stayed at. We are still speechless on how beautiful the home is and what an attentive host and stafff. They could not of made our stay more enjoyable. My husband wanted me to check availability for New Years but of course it was already taken. Cartagena is an amazing city with people that welcome you with open arms. Six of us worked and played for five days at the house that is one of the most beautiful and interesting spaces I have ever been in. Andrea is super responsive and accommodating, the staff were lovely and very helpful and we could not have asked for a better time. I will be back, probably with another group of friends :) Thank you for everything, we are grateful for such a beautiful introduction to Cartagena.

Cartagena is a fantastic city that guards the secrets of history in its walls, balconies, buildings and narrow cobbled streets.
The charm of the walled city
The magic of Cartagena lies in its massive fortifications, the warmth of the people, the richness of the architecture and the infinite range of cultural expression of a doughty and valiant people.
The city is full of romance, and there is the setting for many a tale of times past in every street and square, and along the walls that bound it, waiting for the sunset to evoke past struggles.
On a sunny day vibrates with color along the facades of the buildings and the sea breeze refreshes the visitor on his way along the narrow streets of the old city.

The monuments are there: sober, ancient monasteries, churches, battlements and the remains of bloody battles: a testimony to the invincible men and women who brought freedom to the “heroic city”.
Night falls, and is bathed in a light of its own, coming to life and transforming itself. It is a unique atmosphere that captivates the visitor and takes him back to times past and forgotten, in a horse and carriage.
From the walls there is a beautiful view of the sea. Then, euphoria grows and the tireless fiesta dances on until the first rays of the sun sweep away the mysteries of the night.
Yes, this is Cartagena. A city that tells its own past, its fascinating history and its rebirth in every age.

Declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage in 1984, Cartagena encapsulates all the charm of Spanish colonial architecture, the republic period and today, the attractions of intense night-life, cultural festivals, exotic scenery, superb beaches, wonderful food and a wide offer of hotels and tourist infrastructure.
Walk the streets, look at the Spanish colonial buildings – the Palace of the Inquisition, the Clock-Tower and the Castle of San Felipe de Barajas; enjoy the soft, warm breezes as you pass through the squares and plazas.
Eating out is another form of entertainment in Cartagena, with countless choices of new and exotic flavors in local and international styles.
The choice of accommodation is very wide too. There are traditional hotels and exclusive boutique hotels offering unique experiences of detail and personal service.
Cartagena offers all the enchantment of its history and the legacy of those who made it great and turned it into one of Colombia’s most important tourist destinations.
