Overview

About the property

GOOSE COVE COTTAGE

Three steps gets you onto the new wooden deck of Goose Cove Cottage, then one more step in you'll find 950 square feet of light and airy living space with Caribbean style decor and all the comforts of home. This newly remodeled home offers one bedroom with a queen size bed and two additional single beds in the first half of the living room that can be combined into a king. Amenities include a fully equipped kitchen with washer/dryer, coffee maker, microwave, full size refrigerator, oven and dining set. Also the cottage has Wi-Fi, a 50" flat-screen TV with hundreds of Direct TV satellite channels with the regional extended sports package, DVD player with movies, a wall mounted air conditioning heat pump, furnished outdoor deck with dining area and charcoal grill, boat ramp and dock and the coolest fish-cleaning station for your daily catch.

Spectacular views of the gulf, especially at sunset are seen from both the kitchen, living room and front deck. Throw on your bathing suit in the morning and head down the road to relax on the beach or launch your boat right in the backyard. Next to the ramp, the boat dock out back on the canal allows fisherman to keep their boats in the water, but watch the tides to ensure enough water flow to get out to the gulf when ready to fish. This property is located on a commercial fishing/clamming canal as well as the Gulf of Mexico making it a unique property in a one-of-a-kind town. Like to fish but didn’t bring a boat, you can fish and crab right from our dock or join others on the new huge fishing pier downtown. Or take one of the many excursions offered by boat Captains off Dock Street to fish or sight-see the many islands that make up the Cedar Keys.

When the sun is setting, step out on the front deck to feel the breeze and enjoy the spectacular sunset view over the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. You may see a school of dolphin cavorting in the cove right in front of you or even the swirl of a black drum close enough to make you want to throw a line out. When hunger strikes you'll find everything you need to cook up mouth watering dishes and if you're a fan of the world famous Cedar Key farm raised clams, walk down a few doors to get some from our local clam wholesaler. Cedar Key also offers outstanding local cuisine in its many casual dining restaurants. Check out terrific local musicians performing around town including Steamers Bar & Grill and the Island Hotel.

THE LOCAL AREA

Situated in the center of Florida's Nature Coast, Cedar Key offers nature lovers amazing bird watching with soaring eagles and ospreys and migrating birds galore. For fishermen, its a fishing paradise of Redfish, Trout, Drum and much more. Check out the lighthouse when open on Seahorse Key operated by the University of Florida who just built a new marine research facility on the island to study the diverse marine wildlife of the area. The area also has multiple art galleries and studios and two museums featuring Old Florida and the history of the area.

Everything in this "Old Florida" style fishing and clamming village is within easy walking and biking distance. The City Park offers a nice beach with a pavilion, outdoor showers, and all the facilities you need to enjoy a pleasant Gulf side afternoon. Stroll around town and watch the crabbers checking their traps, fishermen bringing in their catch and dolphins jumping from the water.

Cedar Key hosts several festivals during the year so get your reservations early if you plan to attend one as the town fills up fast on those weekends. Special events include the Seafood Festival in October, the Art Festival in April, the Small Craft Boat Festival, the Pirate Festival and a kayak festival. Cedar Key is gaining popularity during Florida's Gulf Coast Scalloping season. And Fisherman know it for the many fishing tournaments during the year.

From Goose Cove Cottage the walk to town and the city’s beach is a leisurely 20 minutes along picturesque streets. The natural beauty of Cedar key and its slow pace allow visitors to feel what old Florida must have been like years ago allowing for very restful vacations. Whether you are here to relax, sit and read a book, kayak, fish, bike or just enjoy the diverse wildlife, Goose Cove Cottage can accommodate you comfortably.

About Bill Watford

About Bill Watford

I am a native Floridian. There are a lot of nice cities in Florida and my two favorite small towns are Deland on the east side of the state and Cedar Key due west on the Gulf of Mexico.

I started buying houses to rent as an investment while I had a full time day job, my first in 1985 and I still own it - the Cedar House of Deland. My full time job today is managing the vacation rentals and short stay properties that I own.

I have several in Deland: The Units of the Deland Marigold, Grandma's Place, and The Cedar House. I also have two in Cedar Key: The TreeHouse and Goose Cove Cottage.

I enjoy what I do and am passionate about seeing that my guests have a great experience while staying in one of my properties.

Bill Watford purchased this cottage in 2002

Everything was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Everything in this little cottage was perfect. I never expected to have so many amentities. We wanted for nothing! There were towels, sheets. comforters, coffee, cream, beach items, t-paper, great TV reception, a beautiful little deck, clean and comfy beds -- should I go on. We will be back for sure! Loved that it was on a dead end, hardly any traffic. If I could recommend one thing it would be an umbrella for the table on the deck. That afternoon sun is rough and a little umbrella would have made it nice. The golf cart rental next door made it fun to run into the little town to shop. You have a great place Bill! I hope everyone visits!

Property was as advertised and very clean

  • 5 of 5

House has west exposure for sunset view. However, what I enjoyed more was the morning. The water on the west was clear as a bell, birds were fishing and the sunrise from the east reflected on the water. The air was crystal clear. So beautiful, it could have been a picture

Beautiful view from the front porch!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our relaxing girls weekend at this house! It had everything we needed. It was a really quiet street. We especially loved using a golf cart all weekend to get around. Such a quaint relaxing community with great food at 83 West!

We really enjoyed our stay!

  • 4 of 5

The property was exactly described and a great place to come and get away from it all. The beds were comfortable and adequate. The view from kitchen window was magnificent and we enjoyed spending time on deck out front over looking gulf. Owners were extremely helpful and accommodating with everything especially hints for fishing. To really get a feel for the island, a golf cart rental from the neighbors is a must. The only negative was the building of the new bridge. Construction started at 8:30 am and didn’t stop until 5 pm. Thankfully we had our boat and were away during most of the deafening driving of those pilings. We would come back!

Owner's Response: Yes it is a great place to stay. I talked with the foreman on the bridge replacement project, He said the primary noise is from when they drive new piles which is loud and that will be completed soon. The moving dirt around and other construction will last until early fall. Sorry for the work day noise and glad to hear that you plan to return.
