Accommodations: Goose Cove Cottage is a spacious one bedroom with a Full size bed and two additional single beds in the first half of the living room. This property was completely remodeled in late 2012 with new kitchen, bath, lighting etc., and is very airy and light. The Kitchen is ready to use with complete sets of dishes, pots and pans, silverware, stove, microwave, coffee pot and utensils and a local grocery store can provide what you need. A washer and dryer combo is in the kitchen. Linens and towels are provided also. Cable is provided on our new 50” flat screen TV, as well as Wi-Fi. Cell phone service not very good in Cedar Key. Seems to work outside but not inside. Low ceilings in bedroom and going into living room. Best suited for folks under 6' 2''.
Spectacular views of the gulf, especially at sunset are seen from both the kitchen and living room. A boat dock out back on the canal allows fisherman to keep their boats in the water, but watch the tides to ensure enough water flow to get out to the gulf when ready to fish. This property is located on a commercial fishing/clamming canal in the back as well as the Gulf of Mexico in the front making it a unique property in a one-of-a-kind town. Like to fish but didn’t bring a boat, you can fish and crab right from our dock or join others on the new huge fishing dock downtown.
The walk to town and the city’s beach is a leisurely 20 minutes along picturesque streets. Some guests rent golf carts in town to explore the entire island. The natural beauty of Cedar key and its slow pace allow visitors to feel what old Florida must have been like years ago allowing for very restful vacations. Whether you are here to just relax, sit and read a book, kayak, fish or just to enjoy the diverse wildlife, Goose Cove Cottage can accommodate you comfortably.
Cedar Key hosts several festivals during the year so get your reservations early if you plan to attend one as the town fills up fast on those weekends. Special events include the Seafood Festival in October, the Art Festival in April, the Small Craft Boat Festival, the Pirate Festival and a kayak festival in September.
Peaceful Quiet Getaway. Away from the crowds but within walking distance (1 mile) of downtown restaurants. watering holes and shops.
Place is well stocked for visitors with beach towels, folding chairs, etc Kitchen is well equipped. This is about the 5th time we have stayed and will be back again.
Great deck to sit on to see the Gulf with all of it's birds. If you are new to the area I highly recommend going down town to the fishing pier before sunrise to watch the sun come up in the morning. Even though it is the Gulf Coast from the pier you can look east and see the sun come up over the water.
My wife and I stayed here a week and updated the look. We redecorated with all new living room furniture with beach- themed wicker and new dressers for added storage. New art and new linens complete the overall image. We enjoyed eating crabs caught off our dock and easily launched our 19 foot Carolina Skiff from our own ramp and caught enough trout to satisfy our need for seafood. Owners April 1, 2017
You can sit on the deck and relax with a glass of wine (a nice bottle was waiting for us on the dining room table) and see the sunset, while watching ibis, egrets, and osprey fly over the Gulf of Mexico. At the back of the cottage is a dock. The house is beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable, with all furnishings needed for your stay. In less than 5 minutes you can be on Dock Street having a Cedar Key dinner. The neighbors are friendly but unobtrusive. Excellent! I highly recommend Goose Cove Cottage.
Loved the welcoming gifts. The well supplied kitchen made cooking very easy. Availability of bikes and kayaks at a reasonable price was very nice. Enjoyed the town with interesting shops and eateries. Nearby fish shop was a boon. Friendly neighbors were helpful. The housekeeper Christina had everything spotless for us. Sara and Ron
I am giving this a five stars because the discription is completely accurate. That being said, there are a couple of things that one should be aware of and plan for so that their stay goes smoothly. There is a very small water heater. We had 4 adults who take quick showers and we found that if we waited 15 minutes or so between showers the heater had time to do its job. The other thing we found was about using the boat ramp. If you are not from around here you do not realize that the canal behind the house almost completely empties at low tide. We are talking down to mud. We took a hint from the houses around and did not put the boat in the water the night before and leave it tied at the dock. If we had, it would have been in mud til noon the next day. If you have a fishing schedule you want to follow, be flexible and be willing to pay and use the public dock. Otherwise, go with the flow and the tide schedule and have the wonderful convenience of your own boat ramp. The house itself is just as advertised. Clean and more than well stocked with everything you might need to cook. Even a crock pot. They even left us a bottle of wine. Nice touch! The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was great and the views are spectacular. Add super friendly neighbors and a neighborhood chocolate lab named Harold greeting us and we could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you Bill. We will definitely be back!
Cedar Key is a nice, quiet little town with several good restaurants, interesting shops, and is a great place for kayaking. Unfortunately, this rental is lacking in several ways. It is missing several amenities that most of us have come to expect in vacation rental property. There is no garbage disposal, no dish washer, very limited food storage in the kitchen, and no heat in the one and only bedroom (30 degrees one night while we were there). There is cable tv service, but the selection of programming is extremely limited. There is one serious safety issue. Cedar Key does not have anything approaching reliable cell phone service and this property does not have a land-line phone even for emergency use. If a renter is unfortunate enough to need the police, fire department, or any other type of emergency responder there is no way to do it. Serious issue, especially if you have any type of health problems. I don't understand why the owner will not add a phone, not that expensive and would be a very positive addition. Most of these issues would be less of a problem for short one or two day stays, but not for a longer visit. We planned on staying for several weeks, but had to leave early because of an issue with the hot water. The water temperature in the shower was uncontrollable - either cold or scalding hot, no in between. We received a partial, but not complete, refund.
Cedar Key is a wonderful place to take Air boat tours, Charter a fishing boat, rent a kayak, visit the museum or just enjoy a nature walk by day and Star Gazing by night.
