|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Accommodations: Goose Cove Cottage is a spacious one bedroom with a queen size bed and two additional single beds in the first half of the living room. This property was completely remodeled in late 2012 with new kitchen, bath, lighting etc., and is very airy and light. The Kitchen is ready to use with complete sets of dishes, pots and pans, silverware, stove, microwave, coffee pot and utensils and a local grocery store can provide what you need. A washer and dryer combo is in the kitchen. Linens and towels are provided also. Cable is provided on our new 40” flat screen TV, as well as Wi-Fi.
Spectacular views of the gulf, especially at sunset are seen from both the kitchen and living room. A boat dock out back on the canal allows fisherman to keep their boats in the water, but watch the tides to ensure enough water flow to get out to the gulf when ready to fish. This property is located on a commercial fishing/clamming canal in the back as well as the Gulf of Mexico in the front making it a unique property in a one-of-a-kind town. Like to fish but didn’t bring a boat, you can fish and crab right from our dock or join others on the new huge fishing dock downtown.
The walk to town and the city’s beach is a leisurely 20 minutes along picturesque streets. Some guests rent golf carts in town to explore the entire island. The natural beauty of Cedar key and its slow pace allow visitors to feel what old Florida must have been like years ago allowing for very restful vacations. Whether you are here to just relax, sit and read a book, kayak, fish or just to enjoy the diverse wildlife, Goose Cove Cottage can accommodate you comfortably.
Cedar Key hosts several festivals during the year so get your reservations early if you plan to attend one as the town fills up fast on those weekends. Special events include the Seafood Festival in October, the Art Festival in April, the Small Craft Boat Festival, the ClamAmerica celebration on the 4th of July and a kayak festival in September.
Cedar Key is a nice, quiet little town with several good restaurants, interesting shops, and is a great place for kayaking. Unfortunately, this rental is lacking in several ways. It is missing several amenities that most of us have come to expect in vacation rental property. There is no garbage disposal, no dish washer, very limited food storage in the kitchen, and no heat in the one and only bedroom (30 degrees one night while we were there). There is cable tv service, but the selection of programming is extremely limited. There is one serious safety issue. Cedar Key does not have anything approaching reliable cell phone service and this property does not have a land-line phone even for emergency use. If a renter is unfortunate enough to need the police, fire department, or any other type of emergency responder there is no way to do it. Serious issue, especially if you have any type of health problems. I don't understand why the owner will not add a phone, not that expensive and would be a very positive addition. Most of these issues would be less of a problem for short one or two day stays, but not for a longer visit. We planned on staying for several weeks, but had to leave early because of an issue with the hot water. The water temperature in the shower was uncontrollable - either cold or scalding hot, no in between. We received a partial, but not complete, refund.
It was cold the weekend we were there so couldn't enjoy the deck. Very clean. Should move TV to the left Hard to see from couch. Overall agreat weekend
Had a great time in cedar key. Not luxurious but everything you need in a nice location.
Place is cozy, clean and truly fit our needs. We will see you on the next trip to that part of Florida.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cool waterfront home located right on the Gulf of Mexico. The home was squeaky clean, well stocked with the ocean in front and in back. Thanks for making a great trip!
We loved our stay at Goose Cove cottage. The place was very cute, clean and well equipped. Cedar Key is a great place to get away from it all. We will be telling friends and family about this great place. Thanks to Bill for having such a nice place available for us.
Cedar Key is a wonderful place to take Air boat tours, Charter a fishing boat, rent a kayak, visit the museum or just enjoy a nature walk by day and Star Gazing by night.
