About the property

THE TREEHOUSE

The TreeHouse is a spacious two bedroom stilt home with a king size bed in the master bedroom with a ½ bath and two additional single beds in the second bedroom. It sleeps 4 to 5 comfortably with a roll away tucked under one of the single beds in case you need it. Linens and towels are provided. Amenities include a bath with an amazing two person shower with dual shower heads, a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, coffee maker, microwave, full size refrigerator, oven and center isle with seating for two. The dining room seats four and the home has VOIP phone service. Wi-Fi is included, as well as hundreds of Direct TV satellite channels with the regional extended sports package, and a DVD player with movies. The furnished screened porch has a large George Forman electric grill and the large front porch which looks out over the Gulf of Mexico was literally built around two oak trees, hence the name TreeHouse.

A boat dock out back on the canal allows fisherman to keep their boats in the water, but watch the tides to ensure enough water flow to get out to the gulf when ready to fish. This property is located on a commercial fishing/clamming canal in the back as well as the Gulf of Mexico in the front making it a unique property in a one-of-a-kind town. Like to fish but didn’t bring a boat, you can fish and crab right from our dock or join others on the new huge fishing dock downtown. Crab traps are on the dock, just remember to bring them in from the water when you go!

When the sun is setting, step out on the covered front deck to feel the breeze and enjoy the spectacular sunset view over the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. You may see a school of dolphin cavorting in the cove right in front of you or even the swirl of a black drum close enough to make you want to throw a line out. When hunger strikes you'll find everything you need to cook up mouth watering dishes and if you're a fan of the world famous Cedar Key farm raised clams, walk down two doors to get some from our local clam wholesaler. Cedar Key also offers outstanding local cuisine in its many casual dining restaurants. Check out terrific local musicians performing around town including Steamers Bar & Grill and the Island Hotel.

The natural beauty of Cedar key and its slow pace allow visitors to feel what old Florida must have been like years ago allowing for very restful vacations. Whether you are here to just relax, sit and read a book, kayak, fish or just to enjoy the diverse wildlife, the TreeHouse can accommodate you comfortably.

THE LOCAL AREA

Located just an hour west of Gainesville and situated in the center of Florida's Nature Coast, Cedar Key offers nature lovers amazing bird watching with soaring eagles and ospreys and migrating birds galore. For fishermen, its a fishing paradise of Redfish, Trout, Drum and much more. Check out the lighthouse when open on Seahorse Key operated by the University of Florida who just built a new marine research facility on the island to study the diverse marine wildlife of the area. The area also has multiple art galleries and studios and two museums featuring Old Florida and the history of the area.

Everything in this "Old Florida" style fishing and clamming village is within easy walking and biking distance. From The TreeHouse the walk to town and the city's beach is a leisurely 20 minutes along picturesque streets. The City Park offers a nice beach with a pavilion, outdoor showers, and all the facilities you need to enjoy a pleasant Gulf side afternoon. Stroll around town and watch the crabbers checking their traps, fishermen bringing in their catch and dolphins jumping from the water. Or take one of the many excursions offered by boat Captains off Dock Street to fish or sight-see the many islands that make up the Cedar Keys.

Cedar Key hosts several festivals during the year so get your reservations early if you plan to attend one as the town fills up fast on those weekends. Special events include the Seafood Festival in October, the Art Festival in April, the Small Craft Boat Festival, the Pirate Festival and a kayak festival. Cedar Key is gaining popularity during Florida's Gulf Coast Scalloping season. And Fisherman know it for the many fishing tournaments during the year.

Whether your here to fish or just want to unwind, Cedar Key is a wonderful place to spend some time and enjoy your vacation.

About Bill Watford

About Bill Watford

I am a native Floridian. There are a lot of nice cities in Florida and my two favorite small towns are Deland on the east side of the state and Cedar Key due west on the Gulf of Mexico.

I started buying houses to rent as an investment while I had a full time day job, my first in 1985 and I still own it - the Cedar House of Deland. My full time job today is managing the vacation rentals and short stay properties that I own.

I have several in Deland: The Units of the Deland Marigold, Grandma's Place, and The Cedar House. I also have two in Cedar Key: The TreeHouse and Goose Cove Cottage.

I enjoy what I do and am passionate about seeing that my guests have a great experience while staying in one of my properties.

Bill Watford purchased this house in 2005

Guestbook comments from the owner

I was going to e-mail you and tell you how much we enjoyed our stay. The town was interesting, the seafood was delicious and the neighbors were friendly. And your house was beautifully equipped and was very comfortable.

Thanks for working hard to make our stay wonderful.

Central location to Dock St and Cedar Key Cemetary Park.

We had a great time on our fishing charter with Capt. Danny Voyles. Fishing was good but we also managed to see dolphins, a sea turtle and a manatee.

Tree House

  • 5 of 5

The house was in very good shape - clean and well maintained. The kitchen had many dishes, pots and pans, utensils. The spot was lovely - facing water where we could end our kayak, and down the street from a clam farmer where we got a good education on the process of growing clams in a natural, environmentally friendly way. Thank you. We would like to return to Cedar Key sometime and would welcome the chance to return to tree house. Louise

Absolutely wonderful place with a great view.

  • 4 of 5

Very happy with our choice beautiful view, nice porches, plenty of room and loved the double shower. Liked having the canal behind house but you definitely have to pay attention to tide. Nice touch getting free clams they we're delicious. The only thing we were disappointed with was the bed it said king but it's actually 2 single mattress's set in a frame so there is a crack down the middle and very hard unfortunately this will keep us from going back unless they get a new bed. Now if you're not concerned about this I would recommend it highly but for us we like a comfortable bed. Absolutely loved Cedar Key will be back next year.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your comments and for pointing out the split king style bed and I will change that in our description for clarity. The split king platform style of bed is a very common bed with a solid frame and two Twin XL mattresses and has the benefit that each side is isolated from movement and motion of the other side. This particular bed had Sealy Posturepedic Firm mattresses that thanks to you will be changed out to two 12" medium/firm Memory Foam mattresses on April 10, 2018. We have upgraded to the layered memory foam style of mattress in several of our places, including our own bed, with great satisfaction. So no more hard mattress at the Treehouse of Cedar Key.
