Not far from Joshua Tree National Park (near historic Pioneertown) sits the well appointed 'Gamma Gulch Guest Cabin' nestled deep within your own private valley of Boulders, Joshua Trees and Pinyon Pines bordered by miles of Protected Desert Wilderness with plenty of solitude and unlimited hiking opportunities. Perfect 'home base' for JTNP, Pappy and Harriets, Integratron, Noah Purifoy's outdoor desert museum, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs. Nicely appointed kitchen with spices, coffee and all the basics. Wifi, phone, dish TV and DVD player, and Bose music system with plenty of cd's or can be used with your mp3 player. Coffee maker, microwave, fridge, oven and all utensils. Guest cabin has a 16ft wall of sliding glass doors that look out upon your own private valley of Granite Boulders, Joshua Trees and Pinyon Pines. Weber 'Barbeque for Two' on site. Hot tub to soak in after a long day of hiking and perfect for lounging in to do some star watching. A path leads to a private eight sided meditation/yoga hut nestled in the boulders. Our guests repeatedly return from a day in JTNP and say they don't know why they went to the Park as the scenery at the Guest Cabin rivals the Park (without the tourists and traffic).
My wife, Saccavadi and I (Dave) live in the main cabin adjacent to the Guest house. We both love the desert immensely with all it's solitude, wildlife and starry nights.
As it turns out this guest cabin changed my life. I met Saccavadi 9 years ago when she was a guest in the Guest Cabin -- she was staying in the guest house to take advantage of the solitude and quiet of the desert while she finished her doctorate thesis in Buddhist studies. Saccavadi was a Bhuddist monk when she arrived at my guest house... saffron robes, shaved head. She'd been a monk for 21 years having ordained in Burma at the age of 19. Many of our guests find Saccavadi's story a very moving one. Simply google 'saccavadi' where much has been written about this simple monk from Burma. I haven't a clue as to what Sachi saw in me but as karma?? would have it we soon fell in love. Been married almost 9 years now.
Again, it's important to note that my wife and I live adjacent to the guest house. With that being said, please know it's our policy to greet you when you arrive, help you get settled in, and be available should you need anything... after that it's our policy to leave you alone so that you may connect with what we're sure you'll find an amazing and unique piece of the desert -- this is reflected in our many positive reviews. Thank you :-)
Dave and Sachi Bricker purchased this cabin in 1998
This property is quite unique. The population density of the area is extremely sparse which helps assure a connection with the natural environment right outside your door. The Guest Cabin, along with the main cabin is situated on a piece of land that is surrounded by hundreds, actually thousands, of government protected acres with direct access into the Bighorn Mountain Wilderness Area. The Guest Cabin is truly away from it all. You'll travel along three miles of dirt road to get to our place. When you arrive you'll instantly become aware that you are nestled in a private valley of some of the most beautiful Boulder outcroppings one could imagine, where Joshua trees, pinyon pines, and wildlife abound. An endless variety of birds are attracted to the dripping bird bath located on the deck right outside the 16 foot sliding windows that gaze upon the valley of boulders. Cottontail rabbits, antelope squirrels, the occaisional bobcat can be seen. On three occasions we've seen bighorn sheep in the backcountry and last year a bear with two cubs came strolling through...a rare site...perhaps... but I wonder how many creatures pass by when I'm not looking out the window!
The Guest House is ideal for those wishing to hike, birdwatch, and just be awed by the miles of magnificent rock formations. It's unlikely that you will see anyone while hiking the area. Just you and nature. Many of our guests hike to Black Mountain...the reward being incredible endless views and that feeling of accomplishment that 'I did it!'.
A hot tub offers sore muscles comforting relief and also serves as an ideal location to relax and watch a falling star or two. No city lights visible from here, we're designated dark sky territory.
We also offer a secluded meditation/yoga hut with padded carpeting and cushions for sitting on the floor or doing yoga postures. The hut has fantastic views with plenty of privacy and quiet -- conducive to listening to the song of a bird, the stirring of the breeze, a perfect setting for some quiet contemplation...
Dave and Sachi, I want to say to you two how amazing our stay was at your place. Seriously, it was one of the best places I have EVER stayed. As an architect, and as a human being, I can appreciate the attention to detail that you have put into your guesthouse and property. The bed outside, the hot-tub, the bench seats in the front of the house, the buddha keeping us company, the dimmer on the lights, the tables and chairs on the patio, the small privacy screens (with a cut-out to accommodate a tree branch outside of the Kitchen window)...I could go on and on. All of this created little moments for us that I hope linger long in my mind and heart. I saw the love that you put into your property and it was much appreciated and I feel blessed to have experienced it. I will recommend your place to anyone and everyone I know and hopefully, one day soon, we'll be able to come and visit again.
If you are looking for a unique and tremendous desert setting, this is the place to stay. The room has pleasant decor and is just the right size with all the amenities. Almost one entire wall is windows opening up to the boulder garden which was absolutely phenomenal. We were pleasantly surprised with the entire experience and the accommodations.
If you're looking for privacy and a slice of Heaven, this is it. Dave and Sachi were delightfully amazing hosts and went truly up and beyond to make my stay enjoyable, peaceful and private.
I was visiting Joshua Tree for energy medicine training and on a restricted diet, so couldn't partake of the deliciously stocked fridge and pantry, but it was appreciated none the less.
It's hard to pick a favorite thing about my stay....the midnight dips in the hot tub enjoying the spectacular view of the stars, waking up to be greeted by the view of the magnificent boulders right outside, dancing under the stars as they faded with the rising of the sun, feeding the birds that flock to be fed or the sweet daily visits from Rosie, the sweet hostess dog.
The property is just far enough and just close enough from Joshua Tree to have a true desert experience and to experience the awe inspiring boulders within which the property is nestled. It took me a few trips to know my way, but Dave met me at the intersection no matter how late to ensure I got "home" easily. Once I learned my own way, I was buzzing those roads like a local and think I broke a record on shortest time to and from town. I enjoyed every minute of the drive in and out due to the sheer desert beauty that filled my heart with gratitude and joy.
Not only did I enjoy my visit, I couldn't have met nicer people and on a future visit I hope to have a more casual schedule to spend more time with the hosts and to meet Garth, the neighbor who lives in a teepee to which people flock from near and far to meet.
Thank you Dave, Sachi and Rosie!
Book NOW. Don't hesitate.
I hesitate to tell everyone how awesome this place is because I'm afraid we won't be able to reserve it. Obviously I'm kidding, but if you're looking for a quiet getaway in beautiful surroundings this is your place. The scenery is awesome, they even supply birdseed to feed the many types of birds. There is a great bed for sleeping under the stars if you like. Great sound system, hot tub, pretty much everything you could want. All in all a great place with friendly hosts, we will definitely return!
Are you looking to spend a calm, relaxing, peaceful time in the desert?
This is the place for you.
The property ticks off all the basics: clean, well appointed, comfortable.
The locations is really fantastic. You can go hiking right out the back door and be in an incredibly beautiful place. Or it is a short drive to Joshua Tree National Park.
I can't recommend this rental highly enough.
Absolutely fabulous! This was exactly what we were looking for. Owners were very courteous and offered us complete privacy. Also offered their hospitality if we wanted to hang out with them! They've thought of everything-- outdoor hot tub, beautiful rear patio setting, outdoor bed with bed warmer if needed to star gaze! The yoga hut was so peaceful too. No need to go to Joshua tree park. Everything we wanted was in their own back yard: hiking, rock climbing, or playing with their little doggies, Rosie and shanti. Their dessert turtles were fun to watch too. Definitely going back and already recommended this place to family and friends.
My husband and I were lucky enough to spend three nights here. Just as Dave says in his description of the cabin, the weather reports indicated rain and he offered a cancellation without any penalty. We decided to go anyway and are so glad we did! The pictures don't do it justice. The majestic boulders, abundance of plants and wildlife are so peaceful and relaxing. Dave and Sachi welcomed us and offered assistance any time and then quickly dissappeared. The cabin is a perfect size for two people...even when confined to the cabin with the rain. All the windows make you feel like you're outside, even when you're inside. There isn't a single thing that the cabin lacks. The kitchen is well stocked, there are toothpaste and toothbrushes in case you forget yours, etc. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we booked 4 more nights the day we got home. Thank you Dave and Sachi for being such gracious hosts! We can't wait to come back.
The setting rivals the boulder outcroppings and land features in Joshua Tree Park, less the tourists and traffic.
