About the property

2 bedrroom, 2 bath, 1600 sq. ft home on a fully-fenced serene and private acre

“Redwood Majic” is a serene and intensely quiet property, ringed by towering magical redwoods yet located less than a mile from the charming Mendocino Village.

This two-story, 1600 sq. ft, two-bedroom, two-bath home is set within a private, fully fenced dog-friendly acre of lush ferns and towering California redwoods.

You will feel you are a world away but it’s just minutes to The Village or Mendocino Headlands State Park and its 350 acres of rocky bluffs and open space overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

This lovely home is an easy walk or short drive to some of America’s most beautiful countryside, miles of stunning beaches, hiking trails, world-class wineries and more.

To discover Redwood Majic, take the lovely drive west on Highway 128, then north along Highway 1 into the delightful Village of Mendocino. You will pass cypress trees and redwood groves, drive through the gates and up a long driveway lined with magnificent and ancient California redwoods, soaring over 200 feet into the sky!

The fast pace of the world will disappear when you enter this gracious home.

And while Mendocino Village is recognized for its excellent restaurants, our home’s large country kitchen has everything you’ll need for cooking wonderful meals. The Kitchen features an apron sink, open shelving and plenty of counter space and storage. A 6-foot-long butcher block island has seating for two and the dining table seats six. Just outside the kitchen is a high end Weber 3-burner (plus sideburner) BBQ set on an expansive wrap-around Deck with plenty of built-in seating and garden chairs. It’s perfect for enjoying a glass of wine while contemplating the stars and the stunningly beautiful redwood forest that rings the property.

The Kitchen and Dining Area flow into the Living Room graced with large windows and vaulted wooden ceilings. There is seating for seven and a new 42-inch Smart TV with access to hundreds of stations as well as Pandora radio for music. Free wifi, of course! Bookshelves offer reading material, something for everyone, so slow down and relax.

Upstairs, the large windows in the light-filled 600-square-foot Master Suite provide views on three sides over the gardens and to the treetops. The Suite has plenty of closet and storage space as well as a large reading area with a romantic window seat featuring garden and forest views. A California King bed with a firm mattress is laid with fine linens and topped with a down comforter and the Bathroom features a skylight, plenty of plush towels, a large pedestal sink and a shower big enough for two.

The Downstairs Bedroom has wood paneled ceilings and views of the garden plus a fascinating redwood stump that was cut during the 1800s. It is easily 7 feet tall and covered with moss. A huckleberry bush is now growing from the top!

The Downstairs Bedroom features ample closet and drawer space, a California King bed with firm mattress, fine linens and a down comforter. Its bath, with pedestal sink and large shower, is stocked with plenty of fluffy towels.

The gardens—potted plants around the house plus an expansive open space fringed with ferns and towering California redwood trees—is acreage worth exploring. The property is rich with hydrangea, rhododendron, purple Princess flowers and lilac. See if you can find a fairy ring beneath the redwood trees! Local wildlife includes osprey, chipmunks, squirrels, possum, raccoon, deer and more.

Along the coast, we have otters, whales and seals and we are famous for our schools of sardines and salmon runs. Harvest Market offers a wonderful selection of organic foods and fresh fish but you can also buy direct from the fishermen as they unload their catch in the harbor, a real treat.

Come and visit our very special home—Redwood Majic in Mendocino—soon!

About Susie Edlund

I am a horsewoman by profession and lived in Southern California where I was involved in riding and polo—such joy! I bought Redwood Majic in 2006 and retired to Mendocino Village in 2015. I love the clear air and the slower pace of living here. And since I still travel a great deal, I love to share my home with others who appreciate all that our lovely little Mendocino Village and the surrounding area have to offer, that very special Mendocino magic and the magical redwoods.

Susie Edlund purchased this house in 2006

Why Susie Edlund chose North Coast California

I wanted to be in the redwoods because they are so very special but I also wanted to be within walking distance of the Village, beach and Headlands. Privacy and quiet were very important and so, after a long search, I chose Redwood Majic. Ringed by towering redwoods, Redwood Majic is a secluded and quiet enclave hidden from the world, offering that special Mendocino magic of clean air with a touch of salt from the Pacific Ocean, the magical redwoods and a slower pace of life. Our Redwood Majic is close enough to the ocean that you can hear the ocean crashing on the rocks during rough weather and the seals barking. And when the fog rolls in from the coast, blankets the Village and creeps across Highway 1, we at Redwood Majic are just far enough east to still enjoy California sunshine! Amazing!

What makes this house unique

Sunny days when it is foggy on the coast plus a beautiful redwood forest—serene and majestic.

Plus it is just minutes to Mendocino Village and the ocean, the spectacular Big River Trail and other terrific walks.

And because dogs are special, we cater to them with a fully fenced, gated acre where they are protected and can run to their heart’s content. You might not notice it because of the trees and the lushness of the property, but the fence is wire and will keep in the miniature dogs too. So, do bring your pets!

Come and stay at Redwood Majic in Mendocino soon!

This property is everything and more. Very peaceful and clean.

  • 5 of 5

I had the most peacful enjoyable time here at Susie's property. Very clean and equipped with everything you need (except of course you bring your own food) I don't like staying at hotels that allow pets because i always seem to get a "pet room" I don't want evidence of other pets being there even though i love them and have two of my own. Susie's house is so clean and comfortable. I felt as if i were home. The outside property is so beautiful! I would walk around outside taking in every plant, every tree, every flower. The house and property together is magical. I especially loved that it was just inland of the village of Mendocino because the weather in the village can be cold and windy and just a mile inland can be warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the rays of sunshine and you're protected from the coastal wind by the lage beautiful trees. It's the best location. It's close to everything. We went south to Big River beach, Van Damme state park and beach and also the blow hole trail in between the cemetary and Little River market/gas station. We went north starting the furthest at Ward Avenue to walk the strip along the beach and back to MacKerricher Park to walk the path and walk along the beach. Then we went to Jenny's Giant burger in Fort Bragg to get cheesburgers and a shake. Always busy and worth the wait. Then behind Pine beach inn there's a nice trail and if you drive passed the trail on the left there's Viraporns thai cafe. Heading back towards Mendocino is Pt Cabrillo lighthouse trail. It takes you to the lighthouse of course and some exhibits. Nice walk. One night we drove to the Noyo harbor in Fort Bragg and ate at The Wharf restaurant which has a view of the harbor and the boats that come in and out. If you're into an early breakfast and can beat the crowd, one of the local favorites is eggheads on main street in the strip of stores on the right if going north. It's easy to miss. We went to Medosas market in the Mendocino villiage for everything we needed but you can go to Safeway in Fort Bragg if you'd rather. Walking around the village in Mendo with coffee and a scone and out to the bluffs to watch the sunset was my favorite but so was just hanging out at the house. I can't tell you enough how beautiful it is with all the windows and a view from every room in the house. Even from bed! I loved waking to natural light coming from the skylights.

Susie is a very welcoming and greatful host.

Thank you so much Susie!

Very comfortable and nicely updated home in a great setting.

  • 5 of 5

The house was the perfect setting for a family get away. It had everything you needed and the layout allowed everyone to interact yet enjoy time on their own - reading, cooking, drinking coffee on the porch in the early morning. Nice and quiet but close to downtown Mendicino with great restaurants and lots of things to do in the area. Susie was a great hostess, easy to connect with and flexible. We'll be back!

Lovely secluded getaway

  • 5 of 5

After being in San Francisco for Christmas, eating out all the time, we were so glad to come here and do our own meals, and relax. We spent several nights over the New Year holiday here. Everything we needed for preparing meals was in the kitchen. The village had all the fresh food we are accustomed too, and the quality was excellent.

We were a bit worried because of dogs being encouraged on the property. However, there was no evidence of that at all. Everything was spotless when we arrived. We would definitely stay again when we are in the area.

Lovely and quiet home with all the comforts one needs.

  • 5 of 5

Susie couldn't have been nicer and helpful. The home is very comfortable and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Easy access to Mendocino Village and the Stanford Inn is just a few minutes away. We went there to enjoy the fireplaces, decorations and a glass of wine while a local musician entertained. This home is perfect if you just want to stay and relax or go out for adventures. Comfy furnishings, beautiful redwood trees. We all would return!
