About Martha Mason
We are a brother and sister who have 'held onto' the family cottage. We grew up in the area and have cherished memories of the cottage and the area. We wish to continue to make memories there and share with others.
Martha Mason purchased this Cottage in 1988
Why Martha Mason chose Port Colborne
The Mason Cottage is an important piece of history because of its historical design particular to this part of the country. The shores of Lake Erie have provided many years of enjoyment - from sand castles and sailing, to snorkelling and canoeing. In addition the area of Niagara boasts many activities and is such a beautiful natural area.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our family has enjoyed many morning walks on the beach followed by a beautiful brunch made from food purchased at the weekly farmers market. Building a fire and sitting with a glass of wine gazing at the stars. Sitting on the porch and listening to the night sounds - frogs singing, insects buzzing and by day, hear the music of multitudes of song birds.

We really enjoyed this cottage. Highly recomended
Thank you so very much for your kind words. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at The Mason Cottage.
We stayed for one week at the cottage; both Martha and Peter were exceptionally hospitable. It was the perfect size for our children and us to explore. It is also quite close to many sights in southern Ontario; Niagara, wineries, Fort Erie, etc and so much to do. The cottage has charm and it is has so much character you'll never get bored, 5 min walk from Lake Erie and surrounded by nature and gorgeous birds. We enjoyed our stay and hopefully will be back ; )
Thank you for your kind words. We hope to see you back again soon!
Our getaway spot in Ontario
We settled in to the expansive living room and enjoyed cooking several breakfasts and dinners at the cottage. Our family spent time watching from the sunroom as so many birds came to the feeder. We also grilled outside, and were glad there were several options for us....such as the bike, and the hammock. The main bedroom was very comfortable and tastefully furnished. Plenty of drawer and closet space. We used the fan, and kept the windows open at night, for a cool and relaxing combination. Don't be dismayed with having just a tub---Peter says they'll be working to install a shower. Our teenaged son says that's going to be a plus. And....be sure to use bug spray, as the mosquitoes do not go on vacation when you do. We played golf at Whisky Run, which you could walk to from the cottage--it's only about point-6 kilometers or a 4-tenths of a mile away. We were glad to be just five minutes from downtown Port Colborne. Went to watch the ships in the canal, and enjoyed the Alphabet Bookshop on Main Street. They've got some beautiful small antiques and a lot of cool paper goods. We also liked Grants Gifts and The Picket Fence.....and the store Candy Safari, next door. We drove over to Crystal Beach and had a fabulous dinner at the South Coast Cookhouse. Spent a day on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Do go on the Sky Wheel. We liked Clifton Hill after dark.....it's really hopping, even close to midnight. Dinner at the revolving restaurant at the Skylon was a fabulous experience. Food is exceptional, and the wait staff is even better. They sure know the history of the Skylon and the surrounding area. We also played the Legends on the Niagara golf course....the Battlefield Course. Challenging and beautiful....and of course, we took the scenic road from Ft. Erie towards the Falls to get there. Thanks very much to Peter and Martha for their hospitality (and thanks for the bottles of wine---a very nice touch).... This was a charming base for a REALLY great family vacation.
Thank you for your description of all things wonderful about the Niagara area. Mosquitos are the downside of summer in the country but we think it's worth it (a special shout out to bug spray!). While we have never had any complaints about there being a soaker tub but no shower, we are taking your request seriously and investigating a solution. Thanks once again for everything.
We found this uniquely designed cottage to be the perfect solution for a couple world weary folks looking for a restorative stay. Lovingly and thoughtfully cared for by the family that built it, it is loaded with charm and pleasant surprises. It is clean and well maintained. Lots of privacy and natural surroundings. We stayed a full week enjoying the pleasures of nearby Southern Ontario. A nice slower paced style of life with plenty of fresh food from local farms and lots of trails for skating and biking and we did a lot of that. There is a golf course 5 minutes one way and a semi private free beach 5 minutes the other way. All the local people we encountered were friendly and helpful. The owners are charming and helpful who will answer any question. The pictures are perfectly representative of what to expect. We'll be back!!

Lovely holiday at the beautiful Mason cottage!
We had a wonderful stay at the Mason cottage. Martha and Peter were a true pleasure to work with, and we felt very well taken care of. The cottage is perfect; the design is charming inside and out, the sunroom is a special place to sit and watch the birds, and the outdoor space is private and beautiful. The kitchen is also great for cooking. The beach is a short walk down the road, we went every day with our dog. It was so quiet there she had lots of fun playing ball off her leash and swimming. The cottage was also a safe place for her to play outdoors. We all enjoyed it so much! Port Colborne has everything you need and is very close by car. We also spent a day at Niagara on the lake, and some (dog-friendly) vineyards! There is lots to do in the area.
We will definitely return the next time we need to be in Welland for races. Thanks so much for a lovely stay!
